Wasn't sure what to expect going into this movie, but by the time it was over I was emotionally drained. It's incredibly dark and really very sad. Definitely has an artsy side to it with some odd scenes, but overall it was profound and well done. It will definitely haunt my mind for the next couple of days. Glad I went see it.

The fact that they were put in the UK special ed system at that time may have been a big part of why they deteriorated. It is shocking what they did to Black kids in that system. Kids who didn't belong in it. They did a movie about it. If you get a chance to watch it it is called "subnormal: a British scandal" I cried at the injustice they did to the children of Caribbean immigrants like these girls was is infuriating and has caused continued difficulty for so many kids. The kids were tracked into the program because of their accents, never educated abused and sometimes used as "the help"! And literally being Ill enough to go to the hospital could get your kid pushed into the system that made them worse or robbed them all because of their language skills.

This is horrible. So much of EuroS crimes have been pushed under the rug. All the oppressed people of colonialism suffered from this. Many of their stories dont ever get heard.
The same treatment or worse was done to 1000s of Indigenous Americans kids, Indian kids, african kids.
It is mind boggling the Magnitude of industrial scale slavery and genocide imperialists have gotten away with and it still continues in various forms today.
Their hierarchy of hate is like this:
      1) Not my religion - gets bad
      treatment.
      2) Not my race - Gets worse treatment.
      3) Not my race and religion - Gets The worst possible treatment. You Deserve To burn in hell, no Humanity extended to you.

I've come to just believe the Brits aren't really about mystery. They tell their stories from a place of immediate truth. I watch a lot of true crime and where American shows tend to keep you guessing and treat the story as a whodunit, British shows tell you who the killer is immediately and focus more on the specifics of the story. This film is likely done the same way.
While it's not my style, I've been waiting for the twins' story to be told for a LONG time so I'm gonna support.

His niche is horror. I think black women get perceived as the villains often enough. I don't think it's needed in this case. And the true story is here are two black girls who got severely bullied and went within themselves as a means of survival. Instead of acknowledging that they were villainized and treated poorly, they were hospitalized as a problem, until one of them killed herself to save the other. Which is horrible, heartbreaking, and proof that the UK health system isn't as glorified as everyone thinks it is.

They were twins that grew up in the 70s in a town in Wales, where they were bullied for being black. Because of the trauma of this, they decided to stop communicating with other people and only with eachother. Since they were twins, they had a unique way of communicating and were very creative. When they were teenagers, they started to rebel and were placed in a mental health hospital for years, where they were prescribed drugs that caused more issues. One of the twins eventually dies. They made a pact with eachother that if one dies, the other has to promise to continue to live a normal life.

It was clear that being identical twins had an impact on them. At an early age they simply stopped talking and were operated on for tongue tie - a dreadful thing to do. Once in Pembrokeshire they were at school and fell under the spell of an boy their age who had witnessed his mother being killed. He encouraged them to become arsonists. They also stopped eating much, didn't speak to anyone and sent off for and did a writing course - they wrote w microscopic hand writing. It really was an extraordinary film to work on. Isn't that what it usually is? Other movies, off the top of my head, that were released in, or pushed back to, December are The Matrix and Scream, which weren't expected to do well, or as well as they did, but which were very much sleeper hits. Hey, look forward to seeing it soon. Realised after I commented - and also meant no disrespect to the filmmakers or cast and crew involved for saying I'll watch it illegally, just very much looking forward to seeing it and I'm sure they understand that; it's the distributors that drag the process out - that it's meant to be exclusively set for theaters, not VOD, and being a probably fairly modest title, which means it's unlikely to make the illegals, or if it does it'll be some crappy camcorder copy from in-cinema with online gambling ads bouncing across the screen like a bad game of pong. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
    -John 3:16
God gave us his only son Jesus Christ who Lived a sinless Life then died on the cross to endure our punishment, he rose again on the 3rd day and is currently seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
We have all sinned against the Perfect and Holy God that gave us Life, we all deserve the Punishment of Hell for our sin/rebellion against him.
We have all Broken the Moral Law in our Hearts, even if you don't believe in Jesus, or have never heard of him or the Law of Moses or the Bible, you are still sinful and on your way to Hell. But the GOOD News is that Jesus Christ took our sin upon himself by being Crucified and shed his Blood as payment for our Sins.
He took our Punishment and gave us his reward of Eternal Life in Heaven
Jesus is returning to Judge the world soon my Friends
Please Repent and believe in his sacrifice and Love for you, believe in him as your Lord and Saviour, and you shall be saved.
    May God Bless you all!

One of the weirdest movies I have seen in a long time. It was so wired I just gave up on it over halfway through. I just couldn’t finish it. From the very strange/difficult to understand dialect, odd cutscenes and hard to follow storyline it was just too much. I think this would have been better as a documentary.

I was really nervous going into this movie because the reviews were divisive and I've been so fascinated by these sisters for many years. I'm happy to say that it was really good. It's honestly not as bad of a movie as a lot of people say. It definitely gave me A24 vibes. If you like those types of artistic, slow burn, compelling movies, I think you'd like this. The first half is easily more like that, whereas the second half is more grounded in reality, and I love that. I was also expecting the artistic parts to be over the top like a lot of people were saying, but it honestly wasn't and only happened a handful of times, so it never got too bad. But as soon as it started, I was hooked. It was that good and it's one of those movies that I regret not being able to see in theaters on release.

It might have been a decision to highlight how the twins saw themselves as individuals and that's why their relationship deteriorated so powerfully. That way it is easier for us as the audience to distinguish between them as adult women. They did make the younger girl versions totally identical so I suspect this is the thinking behind it, as they were more in sync as children.
