- Remove smoke smell from car headliner... it sounds easy, but just like many things in the detailing world, there is a lot more to smoke smell removal than just spraying some cleaner! Removing smoke smell from car interiors is hard enough, but when trying to remove smoke odor from car headliners, it gets even more difficult. Because car headliners are so fragile, and smoke smells are so intense, removing the smoke smell from the headliner is a push and pull battle. You do not want to use too much product for fear of the headliner beginning to sag over time, but because smoke smells are so difficult to remove, you have to use enough product to do the job... and the right product at that! Nice Job Luke. I can never guaranty full odor removal, but I try my best. Have you revisited these vehicles or had feedback from customers making sure the odor was gone completely? Especially months later?
Hey thanks Luke for putting this video together for us. One point. Don't forget you need to wear PPE to protect yourself from the overspray from getting all over yourself too. I know its hot but I'm thinking since you keep scrubbing at your nose during the video that its getting to your face too much and into your lungs, eyes and mouth. Something to think about. I want to make it to a ripe old age and I'm sure you do too. ;)

Nice video, not knocking your video or process, at all but would old bed sheets work over the interior while cleaning and spraying over normal interior level.

Nice video. What do you wipe the overspray off with. Just a microfiber towel dampened with a little water? If the smoke smell comes back do you go over the car again with the citrol or just go right to an ozone generator?
Do you have a link to the citrol you used? There’s a lot of pre mixed sprays etc. I’m guessing it’s citrol and not citral?

Someone tried to clean the headliner and saturated it with liquid which then stained!

@wilsonautodetailing Just the video I needed! Have you ever used the product Vamoose Cigarette Odor Eliminator in cars with cigarette residue? It's advertised to bond with the tar and render it inert and the odor as well. Apparently used in property restorations. Just wondering if it works as well as advertised, if anyone has experience with it.
Hey, I don't have smoke on my headliner, but I have some prior cleaner smell that's nasty on it (probably from the past cleaning job). At home, I have a Bissell little green portable carpet/upholstery cleaner. I was thinking just to run through the headliner with it. What are your thoughts on that, would that work? Also is there a non-toxic cleaner that smells good that you would recommend? Thanks
Even lightly spraying the headliner with citrol...I’m not sure I would feel comfortable doing this considering as you mentioned the headliner is held up by glue. As u know citrol is very effective at removing adhesives & glue. But hey if you feel comfortable doing this good for you man. Good video!

A year ago we made the mistake and purchased a lexus rx330 for my son that had cigarette smoke. We have tried local companies, steam and regular wash, ozone, nothing has worked. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks

Is there an alternative chemical brand I can use in England? As I can't find anywhere that sells Citrol 266.
It is a citrus based degreaser so I would say whatever equivalent you guys have in the UK.
This is awesome but I just wouldn’t feel comfortable soaking the headliner. Personally, just use an ozone generator and any lingering smell will go away. I would lightly dab the headliner just to make me feel better

Yes absolutely!!! And there are times when I have to go back with an ozone generator in order to completely kill it...but future videos :D
