What a wonderful short film. It makes one envy the Island life and the marvelous people who populate it. May Long Island stay the same as well as its inhabitants.
LI is supposed to host the races Aug. 15, and if they do I will be there. Personally, I like LI best in the fall. Super tranquil instead of just tranquil, haha.
Roger McCord I hope they still host them this year. I was lucky enough to get to spend some decent time on that island with my godfather all times of the year. Was my favorite place to escape to when I was in college.
A fantastic way to "enjoy" the lobster fisherman culture, what better way than with "souped-up boat races" - the best, as the hobby ties in perfectly with the fishing of the lobsters, you have to "get there quickly", you have to "change the lobster pots", you have to "change fishing grounds quickly", and most importantly, you have to "get the lobsters back to shore quickly" to have them as fresh as possible. What does the winner of the lobsters boat race receive as a prize? The winner gets the keys to the CITY..... BABY.
I grew up in North Carolina on Harkers Island, the tourist found us. Property values skyrocketed causing the locals to not be able to afford to live in their ancestral homes. A word of caution for all.
Maine, the way life should be. Sadly it’s not that way anymore. City folk have inundated our home and now they want to turn it into another Massachusetts.
My grandfather used to say you gotta move 50 miles north every 20 years to get away from the outer staters. Now their every where in this state complaining about the way the state is. It’s like maybe shoulda done so research about the state instead of just thinking it’s going to be like the pictures on a calendar
Takes me 45 minutes to get from the marina I work at in Falmouth to my apartment in south Portland. 7 mile commute home gridlocked with Connecticut and New Jersey plates
But the racers have gotten away from the one thing the boats supposed to be fished everyday and the boats now have forgotten the one rule of back in the day y’all think about it what was the one rule about the boat
Love the close knit community, the kindness they have for each other. Sounds like heaven.

Had to leave the coast back in the eighties ( to get a better paying job), can’t go back now. Too many changes.
Your not alone, it's happening everywhere!
