Dang...that's actually disappointing. For me, 8 is a low point of interest for me because it relied on so much unnecessary OOC drama. That would have been such a good storyline and one I think the audience would have really understood!
I always found this to be the ONE supernatural thing in the series- Dean being so reckless with his nutrition and still maintaining an athletically functional body.
This is kind of explained when Chuck reveals (and then removes) the "main character power" he gave Sam and Dean. Dean starts feeling sick from the food he ate.
That very first scene made me realize on a rewatch why he drinks so much. Not only to forget like most people, but to be actually able to sleep without nightmares 💔
It really puts into perspective how unhealthy his drinking is when you see all his drinking put together like this. It helped me realize just how unhealthy my own drinking is

Edited to add: Just wanted to expand on this to say that I expected this video to be fluffy/funny, since that's how a lot of fan vids treat Dean's drinking (unless they're just using it as a proxy for sadness), but this was actually a really legitimate take on Dean's alcoholism. It's disappointing that the writers never got around to making it a serious plotline, but I appreciate that they didn't just treat it like a laugh line (that is, I think they hinted at it being an issue enough for a careful viewer to be concerned/uneasy with Dean's drinking -- we were never encouraged to just shrug it off entirely, even when Dean scoffed at people's concerns). Thank you for making this! I'm a newish fan of Supernatural, so I'm just now discovering fanworks from years ago (and I still have some of your catalogue to go through), but I hope you make more of these! You're so good.

I never took notice of how much Dean drinks. It's probably b/c irl I've never been around alcoholics, and I drink once in a blue moon. It probably doesn't sit well with Cas. This is kind of tragic.

I doubt Sam is 100% okay with it too. I know I wouldn't want to witness someone I really care about drink themselves to death.
I hate how much I still relate to this. At this point I drink every fucking day. I can't deal with all my shit anymore. I think it's been about 2 and a half years of just destroying myself. I have no one. No friends, no romantic relationship. Never had any intimacy with someone. Just dying slowly. I hate it so much. And I've stopped drinking for periods, and even before I was in this destructive mode, I had a year off alcohol because I knew my relationship with the alcohol was very toxic. Now though? I won't stop. Why? Because continuing to be alone and unloved in this world hurts way too fucking much. Every damn day.
I relate to it too, and hate it too. I've got enough rare and complex health problems that can't be cured that I might as well kill my liver too. Trauma and depression that hasn't been fixed with a couple of decades of treatment. Eventually you reach a point where you give up and reach for the bottle. Why not? She's always there in the cabinet when I need her. More reliable than friends or family ever were. When Dean mentions how many drinks per week, and Lisa brings it up too, I did some quick maths to convert it to ml and compare to my own drinking. Let's just say I regretted that because it confirms the unhealthy relationship I have with vodka. But, whatever. I've been sober and nothing was better, but I get little moments where I forget everything when I'm drinking. So I do.
