- Kentucky Kingdom opened in 1987 and it has a fascinating history unlike any other park out there. That wacky history has had a big impact on the comings and goings of its coasters, so today let's look at every coaster that ever operated at this park and rank them up from worst to best.

Kentucky Kingdom has a great one two punch with Storm Chaser and Lightning Run. Hopefully whatever replaces T3 is something that will make the park's lineup better

I am working on SFNE by the numbers, but for super old coasters its next to impossible to rank them. No photos, no footage, no stats
@@AirtimeThrills I know the coasters before thunderbolt opened would be impossible to do, so do what you did in the cedar point by the numbers video and do all the coasters AFTER the oldest coaster opened.
I double checked and all the other coasters from 1941 to 1999 (thundebolt opens to riverside renamed to SFNE)were wildcat, black widow, riverside cyclone, mind eraser (aka riddler revenge) and great chase (dat kiddie coaster.)
I miss the Chang and Vampire era. Watching this video brought back memories.
This is such an interesting ranking compared to the other ones you’ve done because it’s one of the few still operating parks with more rides removed than open
With as many times that I've been to Kings Island, and Holiday World, it's amazing that I've never stopped here.😢 I will need to change that this year.
I grew up riding Twisted Twins. I enjoyed both sides, though I liked the Lola side better since it was a bit smoother. The Stella side did have a violent airtime moment though.
This brings back so many memories. I still remember when Kentucky Kingdom was just an extention of the State Fair. I remember Starchaser being so much fun to ride. When I was older and not afraid of the big coasters, Vampire, Chang, and Twisted Sisters were my favorite rides at the park. My high school senior class went there for our skip day. I moved to Ohio in 1999 and haven't been back since. I need to plan a trip and take my kids.
I've actually ridden Green Lantern (CHANG) and quite enjoyed it. It's the only standup I've ever been on and didn't understand why everyone hated them so much. I thought it was fun.

Storm is one of the most extreme roller coasters I’ve ever been on. It’s up there with Iron Gwazi, Lightning Rod, Voyage, El Toro and Steel Vengeance for most powerful airtime I’ve ever felt on a coaster. Overall, it sits just outside of my top 10 but it is an insane experience and one to not underestimate.

I was working 2 blocks away from Kentucky Kingdom when Chang was being built. I would go everyday on lunch behind the park to watch the construction and take pictures. I was there the day they topped off the first loop. The anticipation and excitement building everyday
So when it finally opened that first ride was unbelievable. I had a season pass and would go twice a week before work and ride it 6-10 times a day. Rode it 107 times the first year over 300 total. I did ride it in New Jersey although very nostalgic, it seemed very rough to me.
This is probably a non-issue now since we did eventually get a waterpark expansion with the park's grand reopening, but still to this day it never made sense to me for SF to announce a waterpark expansion in Chang's place if they were gonna back out of the lease right after.
Did they actually have any plans for Banzai Beach or was that just a smokescreen and they just lied, knowing they were gonna pull out of the lease? I think that perceived lack of logic might have been part of my initial outrage, combined with them taking out what was the biggest ride in the park. Tho I do wonder if the mixed reception of 90's era stand-ups might make me feel better about the relocation (I'm in the 'liked it' camp). If I ever visit Great Adventure I'll plan to ride Green Lantern sometime during my visit (assuming it hasn't reached the end of its service life by then).
I rode Twisted Sisters back when they first opened in '98 and remember them being average at best, though Chang was a blast. On my most recent visit in 2019, Thunder Run was running rough as guts, it was Thunder Done for me. Actually had way more fun marathoning Kentucky Flyer for an hour or so. But I agree, Lightning Run and Storm Chaser are beyond reproach.
If I'm not mistaken, the park has a strict height limit due to it being right in the flightpath for planes leaving/landing at Louisville's airport, especially with all the UPS traffic at its hub there. I went the the University of Louisville, and you definitely heard those UPS planes coming in and out during the night even back then if you left your windows open! It's a pity that I never made it to KK while there - as someone who grew up near Cincinnati, if we're going to an amusement park at that time, it was KI.

I currently live about the same distance to Kentucky Kingdom as Kings Island. I have never been to Kentucky Kingdom in my life. I should go there. I have never been on a RMC, and it's basically not far away. Maybe this year I will go.

I’d recommend visiting Kentucky Kingdom. It’s an extremely underrated park and one of my favorites.
This is my home park. :) she’s not special but I have a lot of great childhood memories here.
Twisted Twins was always my favorite ride. It used to be called Twisted Sisters but they got legal pushback from the band and they had to change the name. Lol despite that, many people still kept calling it Twisted Sisters cause the name stuck.

I just was at Sixflags New England on Friday, Flashback was running ok, sit in a middle seat and get the forces without too much headbanging, Gotham City Gauntlet was running fast without trims, which seems as though all the coaster are this spring. Go there on a warm spring day and the rides fly! Wicked Cyclone had such strong ejector i thought it was trying to rip my legs off from the thighs down! Superman had great ejector too! Honestly I liked Flashback more than Batman or Riddler's Revenge

Given that the layout for Thunder Run is so similar to the Hurlers. Wouldn't it have been cool if Thunder Run got the Iron Horse treatment and it came out like Twisted Timbers. A good standard retracking on the Twins and possibly some new trains would have made for an overall better coaster lineup in my opinion.
Ah, so that’s where my former home park got its insanely-long-named wild mouse! I also had no idea that’s where Flashback came from. Any theories on what might replace T3? What’s your dream replacement for it and what do you think is actually likely?
I think some Vekoma new age launch coaster would be awesome on that plot

Another great vid! This is my hometown park and I love it but If you ever come back to Kentucky Kingdom there is another park in Kentucky called Beech Bend and it’s got a wooden coaster, a ride from MJs Neverland, and a few good flat rides, nice small park for the price. Love the content
I guess opinions vary... When my son and I were at Kentucky Kingdom, we rode T3 a LOT! We loved it -- front, back, and in between. I think we rode it the most of any of the coasters.
That being said, I will agree with Storm Chaser being #1. That inversion barrel roll right off... Wicked! Especially since it has no shoulder harness...
I agree about Chang being # 3. I have enjoyed my rides on Green Lantern, and it's a top 5 coaster in that park for me. I rode Thunder Run a few times last year, and it had gotten quite rough, other than in the very front row. Storm Chaser was not at its strongest on that day in 2020, but it was at full strength last year. It's one of the few RMCs that's better towards the front.
Been on 9 of the 12. I agree for the most part with the exception of the stand-up being that high. Great top 2!

This is going to be great nostalgia for me. I live in Cincinnati so we'd go to KK about once a year. I remember pretty much all of this.
I rode Starchaser when it was at Darien Lake as Nightmare At Phantom Cave and it was a big let down. Like a lot of the Six Flags ride rotation coasters it was extremely rough and the dark just meant you couldn't brace for the sudden turns. Maybe I am biased against dark coasters but the fun of a Jet Star model is the sense of speed on such a wild and tight layout and you got none of that in the dark.
This park is like The Little Engine That Could just keeps going it seems like every coaster that was removed at least was replaced seems like a pretty solid Park I hope it stays around for years to come
I'm not sure why, but my experience with T3 was so different than how everyone else describes it. For me it was the first OK SLC I'd riden (my only other two being the Mind Eraser's at Elitch Gardens and Six Flags America). I rode in the back at least five times during a coaster event and loved the lap bars and didn't feel the rattle that many people describe. I'm sorry it was such a bad experience for so many people, and I can't wait to see what the park puts in it's place!
Love my home park. I do miss Twisted Twins, that was my favorite coaster growing up!

This is my home park, and I’ve rode all but starchaser and that’s because my mother didn’t want me riding it. I gotta say though I absolutely loved when Chang was brought there I think I was 13 and I loved it and I would love to see them bring something different here like a time machine type of coaster since I know they have a height limit due to the airport but I think that would probably really work for the park, because I would love to see Kentucky Kingdom get put back on the map with a different,solid coaster lineup. JMO
You weren't missing anything with Twisted Sisters, they were both "meh". Turning that into Storm Chaser is one of the better coaster glow ups.
I do miss Chang though. Happy to see it get some love. I used to ride it like crazy.
I'm going to pour one out for the abandoned RMC raptor T4 project. Sure, there's already plenty of airtime at KK, but that would have been perfect for me. Can't have too much fun though, I guess.
We'll see what Herschend does next with it, but I'm not expecting much.

When Starchaser operated at Darien Lake it was known as Nightmare at Phantom Cave. To my knowledge, it is the only coaster to ever operate at Darien Lake that is no longer at the park.
From what I was told it wasn’t a super popular coaster, which is probably why it ended up at another park before the end of the millennium.
Thinking about driving down there on a Kings Island trip weekend. The top two coasters are enough for me to get there.

I love Kentucky Kingdom! Having Kentucky Kingdom and Holiday World so close makes for a great two day trip.
I’m assuming Chang will be at least fourth, pretty crazy when a stand-up coaster is one of the best a park has ever had.
KK deserves all the love it can get! They have proven that great stats alone doesn’t mean a coaster can’t be great!
Now, with speculation on what can replace T3. If it is a top 50 or 25 worthy coaster and the two power houses you have in Lightning Run and Storm Chaser. KK can truly be a destination park.
Green Lantern was a lot better when it was Chang
Vampire got some bad publicity ,which is why its run was short in the park. It got stuck on the loops a couple of times; nobody was hurt but I remember seeing firefighters pull off riders on the news multiple times. I'm assuming the reason it was relocated was because the park/Six Flags didn't want to deal with negative publicity, not that they really just wanted a wild mouse.
I normally don't roll the credits, but I'm glad I got that Easter-egg.
With kentucky kingdom being 2 hours away from me (I live in Cincinnati), Id say its my secondary home park as I can do day trips there time and time again, just to marathon storm chaser and lightning run
T3 as a suspended thrill coaster would be awesome but personally i want to see another Vakoma model take it place (Tilt or Space warp). You could have Vakoma put a suspended coaster over by Storm Chaser and Thunder Run. It could be a family or thrill but either way that section get either a great family coaster or a inversion focused coaster.
Plus the Tilt or Space warp would bring traffic to the waterpark side of the park
I don't really like coasters much, but I have ridden Whistle Punk Chaser and Firechaser at Dollywood... I like rides on the more mild side. No upside down sections, high speeds or heights, or other things that might scare me. Just a ride that's meant to be fun for everyone, including new coaster riders like myself. I think Roller Skater and Kentucky Flyer might be the coasters I'll check out at Kentucky Kingdom, because they don't look too scary for me, although Firechaser at Dollywood was a bit intense for me with its launches and the backwards part at the end...
Kids or family coasters would probably be the best ones for me in general. Not too fast, not too tall, nothing scary like loops or other upside down parts. Just a fun ride for a newbie like me 🙂
I really hope KK gets a launch coaster once they demolish T3. That would be such a good addition to the park. My second pick for its replacement would either be an RMC Raptor or a Vekoma STC named T4 🤣
I genuinely do hope this park gets a better line up soon. It just has so much potential!
My favorite roller coaster there is Storm Chaser, followed by Lightning Run, Thunder Run, and Kentucky Flyer.

I think if Michigan's Adventure invested in one of these low costing Chance Hyper GTX coasters, maybe the world wouldn't troll them for the next 10 years.
A low costing Airtime Machine like this model, plus the Air-time mammoth (granted it's sustained - SHIVERING TIMBERS) is a perfect 1-2 punch that can attract people to this Cedar Fair Park the day before or after they visit SFGA in Guernee, but what do I know about trying to create opportunities at generating more name recognition and profit, but hey, I look forward to a new LED lightbulb or two on the pathways by the entry. 🤣🤣🤣
Went to Kentucky Kingdom in 2021. Storm Chaser and Lightning Run are two great coasters. Thunder Run actually was a decent ride. But T3 was as bad as everyone said. Glad it's closing. Hopefully, they replace it with something good.

I got one, near zenride on Thunder Run in the very back row and it was so rough - I actually enjoyed T3 much more lol. My ranking is Storm Chaser > Lightning Run > Kentucky Flyer > T3 > Thunder Run.

I had some scary rides at KK. Back in like 2007, I rode T2 and it hit a curve really hard and jerked me halfway out of my seat. Like, literally a whole butt cheek was hanging out. And the same day on Chang, the ride operator didn’t make sure the restraint was locked properly. It was so loose that I could have slipped right out if I wanted to. We started down the first hill.. the restraint went forward and then I fell forward with it. I held on for dear life. Thankfully when it went through the first loop, it locked and boy did it lock tight. I couldn’t breathe for the rest of the ride. That was the last time I went there. It was terrifying. lol 😅

Its funny how steel supports with wood track = wood coaster, but wood supports with steel track = hybrid coaster, technically they are both hybrids so twisted twins was technically a hybrid coaster that was converted into a steel coaster

I have seen most of the coaster at the park besides starchaser. First I somewhat remember vampire. With greese lighting toward the end it was broken a lot. lIghting run and storm chaser are crazy. Roller skater is good. The wild mouse was fun. I didn’t ride Chang when it was at the park but I did ride Green lantern. It was good. Kentucky flyer is a good ride T 3 well it’s old

while being the most painful ride that I've ever ridden, I'm glad that I got the chance to ride T3 before it closed
I have a Press Kit of the park when it opened. I HAS had an interesting history + park layout. Lots of coasters this ONE.
I once stayed at a hotel right next to the park but there was another hotel between the two.
Escape from Arkham Asylum is a one and done if there ever was one. I swear, that thing feels like it's going to break your hips when you go around those turns.
I rode on the first the vampire and Chang, T2 became my mega hit roller coast at that time

Oddly enough, I think T3 was one of the better SLCs out there. I've done it a few times in a row and had no issues once they switched to vests.

I rode Thunder Run two days ago and it was BEYOND rough. I have never been on something more miserable and I ended up with whiplash from the ride and I could not ride anything at Holiday World or Kings Island because of that😭😭😭
T2 was my favorite coaster for years. It’s a shame it became so disliked and was torn down. Chang was the first coaster I ever rode. It’s a shame Kentucky Kingdom used to have such a variety (stand-up coaster, feet dangling coaster, etc) and now they’re all so similar.
The only one of these coasters I’ve ridden is Green Lantern and I agree that it’s better than most make it out to be.
I think I would be cool to see a B&M invert in the place of T3 not gonna lie.
TBH, get kind frustrated when 62.1mph is translated to 99.9 km/h. You can switch between metric and English on RCDB
I just plug in the conversion and round it so that would be 99.94, rounded down to 99.9
I rode nightmare at great escape many times haha. It was fun but lines were absurd.

Lost all respect for Twisted Sister after hearing that. What a petty thing to do to an innocent roller coaster. It’s not like it’s another band or a movie, it’s a ride and it’s at a park that’s not even that popular. That just blows my mind.

Man I feel bad for t3. Got such a bad rating. Deff one of my favorite coasters. I liked having no floor, the twist and turns and goin upside down.
I also miss chang. It was a really fun ride. I really enjoy lightning run. Just dislike so many or sit down in a car coaster. I like stamina or atleast feat dangling coasters. I will say storm chaser is very fun. Road it first time today and was surprised by it. Looking fwd to riding again in near future. I sadly never got to ride vampire😢

I rode Thunder Run twice last summer and I got barely any air time in the back row. Maybe it was due to the trains being at best half full. Either way, I think it could be greatly improved with some re-profiling.

I unironically like Storm Chaser better than SteVe. It's a great coaster that tears you apart but doesn't go on too long.

I’m still sad KK didn’t end up getting an RMC raptor and went to Silverwood as Stunt Pilot instead. Being one of the few parks with two RMC coasters would’ve been amazing, especially since it’s my home park
