Well defining a capture is important as the run is based off of getting the least of them possible. They could be familiar with the any% run and the lingo involved without knowing what is considered a capture.
Edit: His audience would be those who have played SMO and maybe watched some any%
@@PowdergameFan18 His intended audience is people attending GDQ (games done quickly). It basically amounts to people very familiar with speedrunning in general, but not necessarily familiar with Mario Odyssey as a game.

It took me until Bowser's Kingdom, right before he did the Nut Jump, when he said "I'm gonna shut up for a minute". This is impressive AF, he'd do a really great job commentating his own run at SGDQ.
The most impressive thing is when he's talking while doing the metro kingdom crc. He's explaining the trick while ground pounding with cappy every 2 seconds, and counting how many times he does it. How. I cant think about anything else while playing casually or I'll fall. This dude is just talking while counting two seperate things.
The real reason that the bowser capture can't be skipped is that he's required for xd skip

Super Mario Odyssey is literally built for speedrunning, Mario's moveset is amazing and many of the maps have faster routes built-in. Cappy even congratulates you when you find some.
Are there more where he congratulates you besides skipping the tunnel in Lake Kingdom? That's the only one I remember finding, but I'm curious if there are others.
I've found a couple but I can't remember exactly where they are at. I've only found them by accident.
There are also random coin piles in super hard-to-reach places, like on top of the giant doorway in the sand kingdom boss arena

For those that are new: Small Ant having a n incredible speed run for 3 captures that has taken hundreds of hours to get down, but not knowing how many kingdoms there are in the game, sums up all of my experiences with his content.

I have a theory that probably won’t work but maybe theoretically could…
You skip bowser capture by leaving him behind, doing some jumps up to the first wall you would have to destroy. If a clip is found for this wall you could skip every wall. Then there are invisible platforms outside the 2d area that you can stand on. If you leap to the pipe to the 2d area, stand on top of it, and do the three jumps, you can pass the 2d area. Then you clip through the walls again and you are in the final area. If you could find a glitch to get outside of the golden area or at least far enough you could get the cutscene and skip bowser. Just a thought that probably won’t work.

I'm not terribly interested in speedruns, I watch you and like a few others, but man I could listen to mario odyssey tech from you all day. Idk why but when you talk about it I can tell you're actually interested and not just going through the motions, even when you are it's not that bad. Keep it up dude, great video.

I remember when the first video I watched was the 11 captures run and I thought that was amazingly optimized. Now we are at 3 captures and it’s amazing to see how far the community has come.

@@MyHandleIsAplaceholder I don't know if you watch his streams at all, but I watched a few of him trying to get this take for an SGDQ submission. He did this run and did this commentary, I don't know how many times, starting a new run, with full tutorial commentary every time, whenever things went bad. He did that several times in a row, before encountering technical difficulties, and deciding to do it off screen. That was actually quite some time ago now, and so I wouldn't be surprised if, rather than being edited, that this was just like, his 15th or 20th take of the same run.
So it's most likely just a single take, but just rehearsed like crazy. Which is also why his gameplay is so good.

Have you ever tried doing a run where you switch the controllers, so your feet are controlling mario and your hands control cappy? I always like seeing you do challenges like that I imagine that one would be really disorienting. Great video by the way, always cool to see people trying out new styles for their videos

@@ilovet5926 in addition to what other people said, it's not that air poisons fish, it's that their gills aren't made to breathe air efficiently. Underwater, their gills can spread out and get a ton of surface area exposed to the water, but on air, their gills collapse and aren't fully exposed. So they actually can absorb some of the oxygen from air, but it's not enough compared to water, so they can't get enough oxygen and they suffocate.

I just started replaying odyssey today since I got a new switch and I was thinking “I should speed run this”. Then I proceeded to spend 2 hours running around cascade kingdom like a crackhead trying to get all the moons.
I didn’t get all the moons. I gave up. Then I did the same thing in the sand kingdom.
That one in the sky is super hard to get. That's the only one I have not gotten.
Update: Moon obtained via CRC 😃 were making history
