What are you going to use an RGB LED for? Which one are you leaning towards?

Thanks for the review. The best part was when you demonstrated the different effects 🤣! Love it! I'm looking at the Boling P1 and the Aputure MC. Have you worked with the Aputure MC? Thanks for your review.

A friend of mine has 2 P1s, I have a couple G1s. They're good bang for your buck and are really bright. I'm a maker and have extremely poor lighting in my workshop and so although I do sometimes use the lights for photography, most of the time I use them as a general light. I have a shelf 30 inches above my workbench and I created mounting brackets so that I can place a couple pixel G1s pointing down on my workbench (and my simple brackets angle them so that I never actually see the LED side directly and don't get blinded which is especially important given the location just above eye level where I mount them - I don't use LED fluorescent light substitutes because being able to see the bulb out of my peripheral vision hurts my eyes after a little while). Yes, the boling P1s are a nicer light and have a more versatile built in mounting bracket but if you're willing to be creative and play around with some homemade mounting brackets the G1s work great. Having the cold shoe mount is also nice; I can easily mount them facing into my room by just sliding them onto the included 1/4-20 cold shoe mounting bracket.

Sup! Great review man! I'm gonna pick up the P1! I make a lot of music videos for my own music and this little light will look very nice on my Sony ZV-1 camera!

Hi Robert. Never seen any of your video's before but I really enjoyed this review. I already own about 3 pixel G1s lights and I think they are an awesome bang for the buck. I also have 2 Apature RGB MC lights and they are decent but I wished they were brighter. I am pleased with the Pixel G1s lights but may consider getting a Boling P1 next. Thanks for the great comparison video.

Enjoying it already thanks to same day delivery. I’ve suffered terrible lighting in video calls for the past year and this serves as a great warm light to balance from the other side of the room. Definitely not what it was intended for but works great!

Great video. Which one did you use when you were demonstrating the lighting effects? I'm mostly curious about which one has a better candle effect.

Hey David. Thank you! Boling P1 for this video but they both have similar effects.

I'm hoping someone will do a photometric and CT tests on the Pixel G1S in normal lighting mode. The Andycine R1 (another budget compact LED) reviewed by Gaffer & Gear, gave an impressive 97% TM-RF colour vector score-so I'm curious how the G1S compares.

I solved the problem by getting a Pixel IVISII G2. Much brighter than both of these. Better saturation, better autonomy and same price tag as the G1. At 8500k and 0.3m, i measured 4850 lx and at 0.5m 1720 lx (at 10000k it's even more at 1901 lx) and only 1356 lx on the G1 and 1425 lx on the P1 at 0.5m too. The G2 has a better bracket too. And the dials are the same as the P1 now.

What i like about the P1 is the bunch of accessories you can get for a mere 30$ extra, different honeycomb grids, diffuser etc...

    • @RobertMTeegarden

Totally agreed. IVISII G2 has def better performances than the previous G1s version. Got them from another retailer "Favpackage" because it doesn't ship to the EU on AMZ. And the price is calculated in USD which is also cheaper than in EUR LOL.

if the battery on the G1S runs out can you still operate it on USB power?
