Ok, so this is gonna be a longer post prolly. But I thought, since you do not yet have too many subs yet and under this video, there wasn't any post yet, maybe if you're intrigued, you read this some time.
The points you mentioned in this video, and also the one titled 'New GPD Win 4 issues?...' are exactly the ones, which made me get a steam deck, rather than something from GPD and all the other brands, which have popped out of nowhere over the years, since companies have realized, that handheld gaming suddenly is a thing.
I would have had the money to get those much pricier handhelds, but the older I get and the more experience I have accumulated with all sorts of different tech products, the more of an emphasis I put on the probability of having some kind of a defect on the unit itself and THEN in how good of hands I am.
The better I am off, in case of a defect and having help with it, the more I am even willing to take a hit, in regards to performance of the device itself.
Like: I was very interested in the earlier GPD devices, but I was very, very skeptical in case of having to use customer support, having the device sent in, getting it repaired, and so on.
With Valve, I had no doubts at all, not only that they will continue support for their Steam Deck, but even more so, that in case I am having some kind of defect, they will just help me out with it. They are a kind of 'proven' brand, so to speak. Admittedly, not too much in the space of hardware, but with Steam itself as their distribution platform, I think we can all agree, that these guys have more of an interest NOT to screw over a few customers and help them unbureaucraticely, then getting into an argument with them, how it is THEIR own fault, when it clearly isn't. I have had such a conversation with Sony support in the past, a long, long time ago, around 2000. Since then this brand was dead to me. (and they got out of the Laptop and PC market anyway)
BTW, I just have to mention this: when you called Sony support, the VERY FIRST thing they would ask you, as soon as a human would pick up the line, after you, waiting in it for 10 min, would be your credit card number. I am not kidding. They would not tell you a word about anything, before you gave them your credit card number, for them to bill you up the wazzou for exorbitant amounts. If you where just like: 'But I have this product here, which I just bought like 2 weeks ago, I just have a support question.', they wouldn't do anything about it, before you giving them your cc info.
Well, anyway. I wanted to mention, that it was like a breath of fresh air, to watch someone mention the problem with the 'Steam Deck verified' system. I have also run into issues like that on a few cases.
I have to make this clear, but I think especially you understand this without a doubt: It's not about making a good thing bad. Complaining about every thing in life, and just having a 'hateful attitude' towards anything and everything. But it is still true, that even things, that are good and we like, can and definitely do have pros AND cons.
Trying to find help in the official Steam Forums, when you have encountered a problem, is one of the most toxic things, I have experienced in quite some time. I am not kidding. Fanboys of ANY kind are a bad thing. I don't care if someone has a PS5 or Xbone, or Switch, or PC Master Dick... I don't care. But what I care about is being able to voice concerns and/or defaults of products and being able to maybe come to a solution with the help of others. With the Steam Deck, you can not do that, at least on the official forums.
This is just a sad state of things and if it's not toxic, trying to get help, it can simply seem almost impossible, when you have a defect, which no one else seems to have.
Anyways, your situation with the dead battery on Steam Deck, and then having returned the Ally twice and so on reminded me a bit about myself. In the past, sometimes I had the feeling that I was just more unlucky than the average person. Like, there could be a pyramid stacked up in the store for you to buy, of let's say PS3s when they where new at the time. And no matter, if I took one, that sat at the top, or one, that was nearer at the bottom, the probability for me to catch a faulty one, with a defect inside of it, was pretty high.
I liked your videos. You gained a sub and I hope to see more videos from you :D Cheers!
