I have more than that, but it's nmmlstly due to never giving them much thought except to HATE the cheap Bic pens my mom buys. She loves those blue cylinders, but I hated always messing with them and everything. I loved the pilot g2, but it smeared too much for schools, and I used mechanical pencils anyway. Now I'm in the process of getting a Honey Badger Arsenal bolt action pen because I'm not too happy with the big heavy one I have from Halfbreed knives. I haven't noticed the issues he talked about much with modern gel pens, but definitely know them from older pens, and cheap ones (or ones that have just sat for months, but there's probably issues with fountain pens after months too LOL)
I often recommend your 101 series to friends who show interest in fountain pens and am pleased to see you're updating it. I bet it will be even better than the old version, which was excellent. Write on!
In germany we already write with fountain pens in elementary school and i kept it after school and still like to write with fountain pens today. My favorite combination is the Leuchtturm 1917 120g notebook with a lamy al star fountain pen. Very nice video and i'm looking forward to more parts of the fountain pen 101 series. Tank you.
Before getting into fountain pens, my ideal pen was a liquid rollerball, namely the Pilot Precise V5. I still have one of the ones I had back in 2005 or so, though I highly doubt it works anymore. Nowadays, I use fountain pens for about 90% of my writing and have gotten a lot of interesting comments on them, especially if I'm out in public.
*Fantastic!* I'm SOOO glad you're updating this! I watched ALL the others that you made when I "discovered" Fountain Pens in February. Brian, thank you! (and team!)
I found ✒️🖋️ in February 2023, too! A friend took me to the FPR store, and that’s how it all began. What’s your favorite 🖋️ so far? (Isn’t it great that we have our own 🖋️✒️ emojis?)
@@mjcossel6136 that is *FANTASTIC!!!* It’s funny, I have ALWAYS carried a pen with me - and I was VERY specific about it. 🤷♀️ Now, I’m super thankful that I discovered 🖋️ ✒️ - so I can write even MORE!!! My favorite right now, is my vintage Waterman Skywriter I got from Peyton Street Pens!
@@SimplyAubs Ooh, I didn't know about that store! I'm going to have to poke around there. I haven't explored vintage pens yet, and honestly I've been content to hang out in the under $20 range! My friend likes to tease me about that. But don't ask me how many ink samples I have on my shelf! I think the pens are really just an ink carrier for me so far! I love being able to be so selective in type and color of ink. I, too, am writing more now that I have fountain pens! I used a gel pen yesterday, and my handwriting looked terrible again!
Because of the pencast and a broken wrist (even a year later it still hurts) I started my FP journey two months ago. We had a pair of Parker 45 Flighters laying around and I instantly became a fan. I now have added a Vista and some Jinhao 82’s to the collection and several more on the wishlist as future rewards if I reach my goals :). Thanks Brian, Drew, and the rest of the team! Your content is much appreciated even though the shipping across the Atlantic is out of reach for me for now…one day maybe… ;)

Had to get a cartridge pen in the 11th grade for a school project. Everyone said how much better my handwriting looked. That and the green ink I could use got me hooked. That was 1982? I now have a couple dozen fountain pens and inks. I’m still learning a lot from you. 🙂
An instant bonding tool. Attend meeting with pen in hand. Coworker sees your pen, gets excited and shows you their pen. Instant friendship. Great minds think alike. Also, the Goulet company is an excellent company to buy pens and ink from.
Learned to write with a fountain pen back in school. We had to, ballpens were not allowed. Kinda hated it back then. Now it’s the other way around. Thank you, Brian! Although I may not learn too much from these videos (after watching every minute of 89 pencasts and many of the shorter videos), I will watch any and every video from GPC for their charm, delight, and the passion for these wonderful writing instruments and their accompanying products of ink and paper. As you and Drew so often point out - what a great community!
I got my pen as part of a package from Bespoke Post a while back. Haven't used it much, but discovered I had set aside a box of spare cartridges the other day that came with it so repeaked my interest in it. Then last week I stumbled on Traveler's Notebooks and in that rabbit hole someone mentioned your company. So planning on placing an order soon for some more cartridges, another pen, and the notebook stuff. Before I do though I found you had these videos so checking them out. Thanks for the information ahead of watching some more. I am sure it will be quite useful.
Thank you sooo much, Brian, for this series. I love fountain pens, and while I have used them for a long time, like wine and chocolate, there is an infinity to learn - so glad to continue that learning with you and your team! ! ! ! ! !

I don't think my handwriting has gotten better but it definitely has changed. When I pick my gel pen up I write much less rounded and more narrow. It's pretty interesting !
Fountain pens are so cool. Fun to use! Brian really knows his stuff. They are an extension of your personality. It's hard to describe the feeling one gets when using it!!! Definitely an ice breaker. I showed my Parker 51 to my fellow workers and none had ever seen one before. I still laugh over the question asking me if they were a new type of pen. These pens are a part of our history and have been used to record most of it. Caution: Very easy to get hooked on them. Awww poor baby!!! LOL
A very good entry level tutorial, Brian. Even though I have been involved with pen collecting for years, the science of capillary action in the feed still confounds me.
It's kinda like using a vintage or modern double edge, single edge or to a lesser extent a straight razor. Fountain pens are an experience found in no other writing instrument, ball point and roller ball pens are like using a (heaven forbid) cartridge razor with canned goo. One gets a more quality, smooth, comfortable and exhilarating shave using the older technology just like using a fountain pen to write with.. Yes, a small learning curve is required to use either but the results are far superior. IMO only. Great video Brian, thanks for the enlightenment. 👍👍
I'm looking forward to learning more about my favorite type of writing instrument. Even though I'm not a newbie, I had no idea why they are called fountain pens!
