- Is China building a secret military base in the Maldives? China and the Maldives recently signed an MOU allowing a Chinese company to reclaim land in Uthuru Thila Falhu. The island is part of the atoll that is closest to India. Maldives says China will be helping in the construction of an Agricultural Economic Zone on the island. Can this agricultural project just be an eyewash? The Chinese company involved in the project has previously helped the PLA militarise islands in the South China Sea.
