Interesting to install the train wheels into the top plate firstly. Getting around the insertion of the pallet fork if tried with putting everything into the bottom plate!
Thanks for this great upload. I am having an issue with winding the crown and adjusting the time. In both of these cases the mechanism tightens up prohibiting from further servicing the watch. Do you have any suggestions as to how I can fix these issues? Thank you.
I would look at the following. Dirty or damaged clutch gears, bad mainspring or dirty mainspring. The more important would be to look at both the cannon pinion and the hour wheel under the dial to see if there is damage, rust or if the cannon pinion is too tight on the center wheel staff. There needs to be slight pressure on the canno pinion to turn the minute hand but loose enough to allow setting
Hi, need Your help. I purchased a full hunter watch , and the spring on the front cover is broken. Is this spring replacement a job that a novice like myself handle? Is this part easily available? Please advise. Thank You
Hey Pete I’ve never used that putty to repair a dial but I did buy the Color-it kit from Gesswein to do enamel repair. I would be interested to see if I can repair porcelain as well.
Great video and info! I have a problem with screws slipping and flying out of my tweezers no matter how gentle I am with them. Is there anything I can do about that? I'm tired of spending hours to days on my knees searching for screws the size of a speck of dirt. Thanks in advance.
My suggestion would be to make sure your tweezers are dressed well, nice and pointy and burr free, just like you'd dress your screwdrivers. Also, small tweezers for small parts, bigger tweezers for bigger parts. And tweeze lightly.
@@67nearmint thank you very much for the information. Are there any instructions on UA-cam about how to properly dress the tweezers? I know it probably sounds stupid or obvious but perhaps I’m not dressing them properly.
Peter, thanks for the thorough video. I just came into a 18s Elgin pocketwatch from 1910 of remarkably similar specifications. The watch can be set with the dial, but cannot be wound and does not run. I am hopeful that it would just need to be oiled/cleaned like yours here. Would be happy to send it in potentially, if it is of interest to you. 2 quick questions: I am tempted to try to repair it using the tools you recommend and this video as a guide, however I have no other experience with this sort of thing. Is this a foolish endeavor? I see yours does not have glass on the watch face - was that standard for these watches? Cannot find anything about this. Thanks again for the great content!
so i have a watch that the crown turns but the watch does not wind (i just found it as it was left brand new and has been sitting in its box for a while)
I have a watch that worked fine, but I fixed that. Can you help. Local watch makers say it is now good for parts only. It's only missing a click spring.
I do time them. Most viewers don’t really want to watch that process. However, if you are interested in how to adjust the beat and timid a watch let me know in the comments.
You have a very reassuring voice and manner. Very much like an airline captain.
Can’t wait to get this back, You did such an amazing job!!! So cool to see this back to life awesome video
It’s running well. 👍
just used this to refurb my watch, it runs like a top! thanks much!!
Good job on the watch.
Lovely! Enjoy watching your videos. :)
I'm on vacation now but when I get home I would like to get a couple of quotes on 2 pocket watches.
