The central theme of JJK is the loneliness of being the strongest. Gojo is the strongest, even during a battle, having an ally will weaken him. Outside of battle, being the strongest was something that isolated him from everyone else (after Geto died). JJK is about putting an end to that and I think that's why Yuji almost always shine in team battle. Unlike Gojo, Yuji is strongest when fighting with an ally, and it goes along with his character progression from the start, and his motivation: to die surrounded by people. To not be isolated and lonely. Dismissing Yuji as a bad MC just shows how you completely missed out on the point of the manga, beneath the flashy fights and power system.
I personally think he is one of the best written shounen protagonist. Was he phenomenal and groundbreaking? No. But, as one of the commenters here said, is he good for the story? YES. He's someone that starts out seemingly the naive generic MC but as the story progresses, you see the depth and changes in his ideology and mindset and how that intertwines with the story itself. He may not be winning all of the battles, he was not soloing the villains, but he was the soul of the story.

Mmmmmmm jjk didnt really have a theme if you wanna say there was I think is more about clashing ideals most important fights characters get opposed with their exact opposites
I feel like that view just applies to gojo and/or other characters with that title "the strongest". gojo is the main character that wants to change the way the jujutsu society operates because of what happened with him and geto when they were isolated
but that idea of a proper death being surrounded by people(aka his grandpas whole speech) is something that burdens yuji because thats not something that he honestly really cares for at least for himself he never knew true loneliness to feel that way through the series you see his view points change until he becomes just a "cog".
He literally just a role player he says himself and other villians even acknowledge this lol
My main point was he fits more as side character and than an MC which is why i say he is a bad "MC"
But see this is what i believe jjk was about views like this so NiNi you are truly My jujutsu Kaisen 😂😂😂😂😂

Very interesting takes. I don't agree with all of them.
I don't know why, but you seem to have something against Yuji needing help a lot of the time, when one of the themes of the story is strength through unity. As for you not understanding why Mahito was losing to Yuji in a 1v1 after having an upper hand in 2v1, it's because Yuji was weakening him and because Yuji was getting stronger with black flash.
Yuji's not like Goku or Luffy, both of whom act more than react. The story is happening to Yuji, literally. The Jujutsu society had plans for him, Kenjaku and Sukuna had plans for him, and even the other lesser villains had plans for him. The story isn't really about him.
Some of your other critiques of Yuji are fair enough, I guess, but these first two are not valid at all, in my opinion.
Also, him not having his own signature technique was spelled out at the beginning when Gojo told him that his body doesn't have an innate technique and that he would never develop his own. It wasn't until much later, after certain events, that he even developed some other abilities. Because what he had to work with before was his tough body that's close-ish to the level of a heavenly restriction like Maki and simple cursed energy control.
Do I think Yuji is a great MC? Not really. Do I think he's good for the story of JJK? Sure. He stands out against the sea of Goku and Naruto clones for certain.

Thanks for even listening even if you Don't agree! 😭
The thing is it's understandable in the beginning why he needs help but when yuji is in a 1v1 situation he develops so much not only as a character but as a sorcerer LIKE the fight with choso he was being HELLA resourceful and showing what makes him unique as a character we see it AGAIN when yuta pulls up to "kill" yuji he had a lot of promise as a character in a world he didn't belong in. In addition he lost ALOT to mahito that was HIS obstacle that he needed to overcome by himself because of what happened to people he cared about. I was more so explaining what could've made his character better honestly I fault gege because yuji had so many motives to be better but every opportunity he had was fumbled
He definitely does stand out from his peers FOR SURE but it's the fact he had every lay up in the series and kinda just became a side character. OP teacher, demon inside of him, being NATURALLY Strong as helll, bro had SOUL PUNCHES!! Dude almost had more gifts than ichigo😂
As for his own technique thing honestly you're never supposed to take what characters in show say as fact because there are times where they really don't know as much as we think or like gojo HE JUST BE CHATTTING sometimes lmao
But that's where the mystery behind yujis family could've came into play bruh his mom was KENJAKU!!! they could've surprised us with anything at that point. The thing is why give him a DE when he has no CT!!
All in all not to yap I think he was just placed in a series with so many great characters he gets overshadowed easily
If you read this IM SORRYYYY😂😂😂

@@OmegaTai1 You're fine, this is my life blood. Something else I think I should mention is that Yuji does what he has to, to make the story work. For instance, if he beat Choso, he never gets blood manipulation, Choso never helps hold off Kenjaku and them, Choso just gets erased, it also taught Yuji to always consider all of his variables. Another reason why I think he needed Todo is because like the original commenter said, it's a show about strength through Unity. Whilst your point stands, it should've been Yuji, guess what, it was... Yuji just needed to understand simply that he wasn't alone.
We also see him grow a lot. He's always athletic but he has to learn cursed energy, he has to LEARN black flash. One of the things you never see Yuji do is Ass-pull no jutsu. Besides the fact he was "Chosen" by the sparks of black. But Yuji is probably one of the more realistic MC's ever. I think Yuji is a good MC, because he's not trying to promote this, go beyond your limits and become impossibly strong to do impossible feats. It's with help like anyone would, through unity, be strong enough to defeat bad guys that are possible to beat and reach goals that are ATTAINABLE.
Also unlike almost all other protagonists, Yuji was kind of dealt a terrible hand. The moment he ate the finger EVERYONE is out for him. He didn't get a starting line, he got a death race straight from the shit. On the GETGO.
So I think it's fine he needs help. He may be the "worst" Shonen OC according to some, but personally, I think he's the most realistic, most relatable MC I've ever seen, and there are of course times where he's pulled through. But it's why Yuji is actually one of my favorite OC's ever.
As you said previously, Sorry for le yap sesh.

@@OmegaTai1 Yuji's character is definitely one of the best in the manga. The only characters that were handled well from beginning to end were Gojo, Sukuna, Choso, Megumi, Yuta, and Yuji. Everyone else could have been handled well for the most part but were fumbled at some point in the story.

I’m a D-1 JJK hater, but what I hate most about Jujutsu Kaisen is Itadori. For the first season, it feels like the story itself doesn’t even know who Yuji is. They portray him as a loner who thinks he isn’t special, but that’s literally not true. They show that he’s really good at making friends with just about anyone, and he knows he’s different from other people, which would make him special.
They try to make us feel bad for his grandpa dying, but we don’t even know who his grandpa is. Yuji says that without his grandpa, he would have ended up just like Sukuna, but that’s clearly not true. We don’t even really know what that means because we don’t know his grandpa. They imply that they had a deep connection and that Yuji’s grandpa made a big impact on him, but we literally never see it, so we never really know how or why that’s relevant.
Yuji makes a promise to his grandpa to give everyone a proper death and save anyone he can if they’re in need, but there’s nothing to suggest that Yuji wouldn’t be doing that anyway. What was he going to do if his grandpa didn’t say that? Was he just going to leave people to die? That’s already in his nature, even before his grandpa died.

Yuji was never portrayed as a loner who thinks he isn't special. Yuji just simply didn't care. He was a happy go lucky kid who did what he wanted. He chose to be apart of the occult club because he could go home sooner. We didn't see much of Yuji before he found out about Jujutsu society but what we did get didn't show that at all.
Lots of stories don't include much about these past people because they are just there to give the character his reason. Ichigo from bleach does everything he does because of the loss of his mother but we don't learn really ANYTHING about her until pt 1 of tybw. These characters are just here to give the mc their reason or ideology, Yuji's being to help others.
Going back to the first point Yuji was a happy go lucky kid who did what he wanted, before his Grandpa's death he wasn't thinking about life and death, he was just a kid. His grandpa's death put into perspective that yeah this is going to happen and gave him a goal in life, to help other people. This wouldn't have changed much about his normal life besides maybe becoming a firefighter or police officer but because he was introduced to Jujutsu society where death is a part of job and that's what makes the whole thing matter.
Honestly I think you are putting way too much into a minor character who's only purpose was to give Yuji a starting point which then comes full circle by the end of Yuji's character arc. He started by caring about how people died and through his experience as a jujutsu sorcerer learned to focus on life and that the way someone lives is what truly matters.
