I Live In Texas, So On Behalf Of Everyone That Lives In Texas Lin Manuel Miranda I’m Sorry I Swear Not Everyone In Texas Is Like This! I Know How Hard You Worked On It And I Am 100% With You! Also Let Me Mention; As a Liberal Modern Christian, A Theater, Musical, Singer At Heart (I’ve been in Choir and in Theater since grade school); This Urks Me and I am BLIVID (Beyond Livid). Hamilton took a LONG time to make Like Rehearsals aside, the time and effort it took for Mr. Lin to write every song, to stage everyone, to Initially, Follow his lead in creating this Theater Masterpiece; It takes a lot, A LOT of time and effort (Yes, I’ve seen the documentaries and the production stuff that went into Hamilton). So to have this church to Literally Rip Off Lin’s work and put their heavy beliefs in, not only ruins the original, but it also insults the original creator and the ideal of the Artist of what he has created. And that is just wrong, you can’t have it both ways. Like if I wasn’t allowed to copy and paste on my school projects then Production companies either, because that’s Plagiarizing! And another thing for Churches to do this and make money off of this is so disgusting, like hate to the LGBTQ people aside like if that wasn’t new (I am an Ally, and I believe in Equality for all), for them to do this to make profit in the name of the Lord, that’s atrocious. I go and live by this quote everyday in the Bible, Let us not forget what it has been said and written: Matthew 6:1 “Beware Of Practicing Your Righteousness Before Other People In Order To Be Seen By Them, For Then You Will Have NO REWARD From Your Father Who Is In Heaven.” If these “Cherry Pickers” care so much about the Bible and God’s word then they SHOULD know about the quote I just shared with y’all right now! I’ll Leave It There, yeah, I’ll Leave It There!
I don't understand why they didn't ask for permission...or why they chose Hamilton while there are several Christian musicals they could have done. He should definitely sue them!
You can't ask for permission to do Hamilton, because the rights aren't available. When a show is still running on Broadway and National Tours, they won't let smaller, regional theaters do the show because they want people to pay the big bucks to see the real thing. As is their right.
@@MichelleAlexandria-EM Well, no- If a piece of art has protective rights, you can't just ask for permission. As the person above us said, Hamilton is still being performed so it's illegal to hold an unofficial performance of it. Now if the status of Hamilton ever changes to become more easily accessible then maybe this all becomes outdated but we'd be in a different situation.
I feel absolutely sorry for the rest of the Christian church for this. When stories like these pop up on people's news feeds it only adds a stumbling block onto them.
If this church thinks being gay is a sin Why did they show a musical In which two of the main characters of the first act likely had a homosexual relationship in real life
This is like that one South Park Episode where Cartman literally added "I love jesus" "Praise the lord" and what not in popular songs. Basically he stole songs, changed the lyrics...........Wait did south park predicted this?
Thing is, the bible never mentions being gay as a sin. Everytime i ask someone so show me the verse they point to romans, wich for one is Paulus's letters to the romans. So God didnt even write that. The other verse they show me goes as such : "if a man lays with a boy as it does with his wife, he will burn in hell" so its about pedophiles and not homosexuality. These people need to read their own bible.
I'm an atheist. First, why is everyone here Christian? Second, I watched parts and the worst was It's Quiet Uptown. They basically made it all about a pastor talking about how "he needs god".
I never heard of Hamilton, but I'm assuming it was a popular play and they did a "christian version" of it in hopes of sharing the gospel with the lost.
That's the thing -- they attempted to "unsecular-ize" it (I think I just made that word up.) I'm a Christian, but also a huge Hamilton fan and what they did was not only illegal, but was cringey. The way that they tried to twist Lin's utter genius to serve their purpose was in poor taste and not done well. For a good example, watch their version of That Would Be Enough. If you haven't seen the original, just know that God is not mentioned in the original and that's fine -- that's not what this play is.. It wasn't broke. They shouldn't have tried to fix it. Then maybe they wouldn't be getting sued..

Last I checked, putting a religion in something doesn’t make it your own. It’s called a parody and you still need permission to change the original BROADWAY work. Also, theft is a sin. Also, He is a god who loves you as you are and tells us not to judge others but to spread his good news. This is musically condemning people and is literally passing judgement and took his name in vain. The Bible is a holy text that should be respected and used for good, not personal agendas to forcefully convert people through fear. That is also a sin.
Under the U.S. Copyright Law's “Religious Service Exemption,” churches are granted the free use of some copyrighted materials, under specific, limited circumstances in religious services. However, it's critical for ministry leaders to know and understand the exceptions-as well as what activities require licensing
Not sure why you said this. While true, it 1) doesn't cover what they did and 2) is for "religious services"... It honestly feels like you're trying to justify what they knowingly did by saying "well, sometimes churches get extra special rights to rip off artists during services, but they gotta know the rules" with a tone implying this was an innocent mistake, not blatant copyright infringement. Beyond that, the whole situation is hilarious because most of the Founders weren't traditionally Christian. They were Deists. Jefferson literally wrote his own version of the Bible...
@@hprotz6600 Um it can have been both a blatant copyright infringement and an innocent mistake My guess is they were originally guilty of either not doing sufficient homework on the 'religious Service Exemption', or accepting the word of a rather bad attorney on what it protects. "Being gay is a sin", yeah and so is lying, in fact (if I'm not wrong ofc) lying is against one of the ten commandments and they claim being gay a sin (which isn't true) all the while lying about having gotten the license to perform the Jesus-centric Hamilton performance. How hilariously pathetic tbh.

I thought about throwing out the I'm a Christian part of my comment, but, hell, I'll leave it in. This is stupid, like, this is just stupid greedy people lying, it's absolutely ridiculous. Lin was honestly graceful imo in not blasting Texas, Christians, etc and just making it clear that this wasn't okay. This isn't about what you believe this is about copyright infringement. That pastor sucks, and every adult involved sucks
It isn't just that they performed illegally, they also changed the lyrics and added their own. Basically dismissing the original creators decisions, they enforce religion where it isn't intended to be.
Yes they should have asked but unless they charged money for tickets I dont see a case here. Even if there was its not a good look to sue a church for a bunch of children doing ur play. Plus swiching to children and changing the dialouge would give a decent chance for a parody defense to work.
Usually I would agree but my understanding is that stage musicals, especially broadway, kind of has different rules. What I've heard is that like, Broadway owns the sole rights to the entire thing of Hamilton. You can't reproduce it anywhere, even as parody, because it's kind of in a different ruleset than normal copyright And also I would argue that since a necessary part of parody is offering a different experience (Hamilton is serious, Weird Al Yankovic's Hamilton Polka parody is for laughs), and this is just an attempt at a 1:1 recreation trying to offer the same experience with minor censorship, it's technically not parody

Mulligan about the church: "Omg, tear this dude apart!"
The people of church that put on the unauthorized version of Hamilton are giving many people a reason to either not become a Christian or leave the Church altogether
My thoughts exactly!! 💯💯💯
@Emi K Except the ones who did Scamilton are enforcing their beliefs by on an already existing work that doesn't have nothing to do with religion.
So tired of the church getting involved in things that are none of their business. Stick to your Christian music and leave your judgemental ideology to yourselves.
You mean biblical ideology?
@@garyjones2561 It may not be biblical. Any religious sect that finds it necessary to interfere and change the original meaning or message of a producer is out of line. I'm a Christian but I don't believe that I have the right to force my beliefs on anyone who chooses to express themselves in a different way. Lin-Manuel Miranda has every right to be taken aback by the church that pushed its agenda by changing the words and music of Hamilton. I hope he sues them and wins.
I will pray that you will come to know the Lord Jesus. The Church is a hospital and know one is perfect. As Christians we are supposed to go by the word of God and worship the Lord Jesus Christ. That’s why God had Jesus die on the cross for our sins.
@@traciwalker8691 I am a Christian and I believe that Jesus is my Savior. I don't believe that taking the works of an artist and changing it to promote your beliefs is OK. There are many Christian artists who write and sing wonderful praise songs. What the Texas church did was out of line and they need to be held accountable.
@@annturner1256 I agree to this
Why couldn’t they just do wizard of Oz or something???
Godspell. Jesus Christ Superstar. Hell, Fiddler on the Roof has religious bits. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. You could far more easily rewrite Book of Mormon Musical to be their flavor of Christianity...
Maybe because of the wizards and witches stuff
@@hprotz6600 or even Prince of Egypt…
@@kbye2321you know perhaps they got bored of the usual Christian plays readily available to them and wanted something else for a change
honestly i bet if it was a normal unauthorized production, lin would be like "shh its okay it'll be our secret" but this monstrosity? no way
Honestly!
Thou shall not steal and yet they did. Shame on them.
Misleading thumbnail. I wanted to see Lin do a The Adams Administration type diss rap track of the church
I wonder how the "Laurence Interlude" went?
Eliza: Alexander, are you alright?
Alex: Sure I am! Real men don't cry over other guys.
Ooh, here's some more!
Washington: We are outgunned! Outmanned ! It says to obey kings in Romans! So, um, just go home, everyone.
Alex: I don't know how to say no to this...wait, yes I do! Matthew 5:27! Then again, I can always repent later....
All: Ten Duel Commandments! Uh, never mind, pretty sure just the title is blasphemy.
GET EM, KING!
Out of all of the musicals the church could have done (including ones that already have christian/biblical references i.e. Jesus Christ Superstar, Godspell, The Prince Of Egypt, etc), why did they have to rip off Hamilton? 💀 like bro there’s already so many ones out there that you could legally choose from
Speaking of sin, is "Thou shalt not steal" no longer on the list?
I’m glad this wasn’t in New Jersey, because everything is legal in New Jersey.
LMAOO i see what u did there
Underrated comment
I Live In Texas, So On Behalf Of Everyone That Lives In Texas
Lin Manuel Miranda I’m Sorry I Swear Not Everyone In Texas Is Like This!
I Know How Hard You Worked On It And I Am 100% With You!
Also Let Me Mention;
As a Liberal Modern Christian, A Theater, Musical, Singer At Heart (I’ve been in Choir and in Theater since grade school); This Urks Me and I am BLIVID (Beyond Livid).
I go and live by this quote everyday in the Bible, Let us not forget what it has been said and written:
Matthew 6:1 “Beware Of Practicing Your Righteousness Before Other People In Order To Be Seen By Them, For Then You Will Have NO REWARD From Your Father Who Is In Heaven.”
If these “Cherry Pickers” care so much about the Bible and God’s word then they SHOULD know about the quote I just shared with y’all right now!
I’ll Leave It There, yeah,
I’ll Leave It There!
@@michaeldemocko443 you can always ask for anything.
I would love to know the reasoning of why the church thought this was ok.
I’m a Christian and i don’t like how the church did that 🫠
I feel absolutely sorry for the rest of the Christian church for this. When stories like these pop up on people's news feeds it only adds a stumbling block onto them.
Funny how the church stole even though it's against their own rules...
We stan the Christians in the comments dunking on the performance. You all get gold stars.
If this church thinks being gay is a sin
Why did they show a musical
In which two of the main characters of the first act likely had a homosexual relationship in real life
There’s a misconception around being Christian and Homosexuality, but, it’s plain and simple to see that being Gay, is not in fact a sin.
This is like that one South Park Episode where Cartman literally added "I love jesus" "Praise the lord" and what not in popular songs. Basically he stole songs, changed the lyrics...........Wait did south park predicted this?
And I thought that the Simpsons were best at predicting future events
@ecoRfan you’re not wrong on that
“Orange is the new black” is ancient, “South Park is the new Simpsons!” Is clearly a fresh alternative to the musty phrase (/j)
I love every christian and their mother having to preface that theyre "not like other christians" always funny to me.
I am not Christian, but I'm friends with people who are and Lin has every right to sue this church
Lin deserves to go to court and sue the church for the unauthorized production
Thou shalt not steal an entire musical
The most important commandment
You wouldn't download Scamilton.
@@nekoest based on what I saw, I couldn't sit through the whole thing..
I'm appalled im a christian and their giving us a worse name then we already did 😭
Thing is, the bible never mentions being gay as a sin.
I struggle with homosexuality. My struggle is in still trying to fit in that 10th trick of the day and have it be seen by homophobic churches.
I love that they add all those Jesus references and then cut the song that shows Hamilton's literal turn to Jesus in "It's Quite Uptown"
I’m a Christian and I think the sermon is good BUT they did not have the rights for the production AND they altered the production
I'm an atheist. First, why is everyone here Christian? Second, I watched parts and the worst was It's Quiet Uptown. They basically made it all about a pastor talking about how "he needs god".
93% of the world is religious
I'm just baffled as to why a CHURCH would think it's a good idea to put on a secular musical in the first place.
@@GeeRodd you..must..see..it!!! You can basically watch most of it on UA-cam or Disney Plus. Your life will never be the same.
As a Christian. It is not like us to do these kinds of things.
You aren't a Christian if you accept homosexuality. It's a mortal sin and if you agree with it you're going to hell.
@@user-ue8vp6fy8ygee nice guy, and how exactly is it a sin. Is it so bad that a man and a man can marry, give me any reason why they can’t. Also you don’t know that, only Jesus can decide who goes to heaven and who goes to hell so it is a sin to claim you know.
@@kroegerfamily8371 Leviticus 18:22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind: it is abomination.

"Thou shalt not steal."
Exodus 20:15
Last I checked, putting a religion in something doesn’t make it your own. It’s called a parody and you still need permission to change the original BROADWAY work. Also, theft is a sin. Also, He is a god who loves you as you are and tells us not to judge others but to spread his good news. This is musically condemning people and is literally passing judgement and took his name in vain. The Bible is a holy text that should be respected and used for good, not personal agendas to forcefully convert people through fear. That is also a sin.
Bold of a church to make a heterosexual production where the guy who wrote it kissed the king like 5 times
WHY DID THEY NEED TO PERFORM THIS ON MY BDAY 😭
In any case they have certainly seen some nasty notices by Miranda's personal attorney and the Dramatists Guild. We hope they respond quickly and decisively to take this stuff down, and bury their product.
It’s theft plain and simple
As a Christian and a Hamilton fan, that is not ok! I stopped going to church when I moved to a new town (in 2015) and I have stumbled to Hamilton. I watched it with my family for the first time a couple of months ago (I was a fan for their music before I started watching the whole musical). But what was that Texas Church thinking!?!! You cannot do that! What would other Christians think about this!?!? Like I said earlier as a REAL Christian here typing, that is not ok!!
I hope that church gets sued into dust.
This is a case of they thought "it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission"
It's a super lazy way to go.It's a super lazy way to do.Any telling about anything from the Bible,an upstanding church can just use the Bible itself, not copyrighted works.
I am a Christian myself, but, sometimes you can't Christianize anything.

I know this is somewhat old news, but as a local where the church is located, I deeply apologize. Everyone in the Rio Grande Valley area does not approve of any of this nor did we support it. It came just as much a surprise as it did to everyone else, and regardless of religion, no one here would want our city to be recognized for something stupid as this..
This is horrific... There was no need for like a Christian revamp of the show XD. and this is coming from a christian! I'm so so sorry, everything is so off in this show and or version of Hamilton. It was extremely unneeded! Just know that not all Christians are like this. I'm extremely disappointed honestly
Ilegal heathers and how ilegal Hamilton

wow, they made me genuinely angry at piracy. that might be a first.

Sue them They are not Christians
It isn't just that they performed illegally, they also changed the lyrics and added their own. Basically dismissing the original creators decisions, they enforce religion where it isn't intended to be.

As a former Hamilfan and a Christian, we dub thee fellows not Christian in any way, shape, or form.
I really wished "blast" meant freestyle rap them to death, but that's probably the thumbnail's fault.
You can't reproduce it anywhere, even as parody, because it's kind of in a different ruleset than normal copyright
And also I would argue that since a necessary part of parody is offering a different experience (Hamilton is serious, Weird Al Yankovic's Hamilton Polka parody is for laughs), and this is just an attempt at a 1:1 recreation trying to offer the same experience with minor censorship, it's technically not parody
Can you go to hell for copyright infringement. It's stealing... so using their own logic, they are all going to hell.
Um, speaking as a Christian, it is time for (some) Christians to stop worrying about anatomy. But please can I check his closet - I want to count his coats (Luke 3:11)
