Thank you for the review! I have been using the Lenovo Chromebook duet as an artist with the USI pen for a few months and wanted to mention something that is important when considering this tablet and pen for artists. The Lenovo USI pen (as well as other USI pens) suffer from parallax, meaning the tip of the pen and the cursor can have some distance between them. It can make drawing fine details or connecting two lines difficult. In my own review I have gone into some detail about this topic. Also as far as palm rejection, drawing apps tend to have their own settings which can help with missed inputs. Clip Studio Paint, the drawing software I used to test the Lenovo USI pen, has these options and I experienced little to no issues with palm rejection on that app. Thank you so much!
Thanks so much for adding this info. I honestly have no experience with drawing apps (can't draw to save my life) so it's cool to know all this for the future :)

@@JoJotheTechie Hey JoJo thanks for the response. I just got off the phone with technical support. Apparently I was sold a tablet that isn't compatible with pens. I am a nursing student who needs to take notes- do you have a tablet you would recommend that is compatible with the Lenovo USI pen? (Think economical) ;)
The Lenovo Chromebook Duet is USI compatible. It is what I use. Keep in mind that it is a Chrome OS tablet, not an android tablet. I see that as an advantage because basically you get a Chromebook + Android all in one which means you can also run android apps on it while having the benefit of a full chrome browser.
hey jojo! great video! sadly, i live in England and can't find a single sales outlet for USI pens. It's really annoying. Even Lenovo can't seem to work out what of their 6 digital stylus pens available in the UK might work with the Duet. So, I'll have to be patient until this tech finally comes to Europe. Just hearing you talk about Palm rejection, If you go to chrome flags, the inbuilt developer extras that you can enable or disable, there are a few flags related to palm rejection. It might be worth experimenting with them to see if one works for you. Thanks for a great, thorough and informative review video! I'll look forward to the next one!
Thank you for your comment. I did okay around with the flags but it didn't seem to help. I think the trick is that I have to adjust how I set my palm down and avoid touching the screen with my hand before the pen does.
i just got my pent and on my lenovo duet it doesnt work really good. I have a screen protector on and I'm not sure if its causing issues. My pen will start to draw when it has a space between the screen. If I try to write a word, it leaves a trail between the letters like it doesn't want to stop connecting the pen to the screen. Does yours try to draw if you float the pen above the screen? Not too pleased as it is, either a fault pen, or the screen protector causing an issue. If I writing in cursive its great. But otherwise its acting weird. Also tapping on apps and such doesn't fully act responsive. Hmm. Nice video.
Hi there. My pen definitely doesn't do what you are describing. I do suspect it may be your screen protector but one cannot be sure unless you remove it.
I just did some quick research and cannot find in the HP x360 14a specs that it supports USI. I know that it's supported in the 12b and the 14b generations which I believe came after, but cannot find any mention of the 14a actually supporting an active stylus.
I suspect palm rejection only works when the pen is within the vicinity of the screen so if the pen is within half an inch or an inch or to screen then palm rejection works in the sense that it only takes input from the pen
That's a good point. I guess I will have to practice placing down the pen point on the tablet first, then resting my palm, which is kind of awkward for me as I'm using to resting my palm first. I have seen others complain about the palm rejection being tricky as well and I know there are several flags for neural palm rejection still in the works. Hopefully the experience improves as chrome os tablets get more popular.
I have been working at it and when I do get it right the palm rejection does work. It's tricky for me to not have my wrist supported when I set the pen down on the screen. This may be just me and the way I'm used to writing. I'll have to keep working at it.
@@JoJotheTechie the only other suggestion,, get some inexpensive cotton gardening gloves and cut off the thumb and forefinger,, so you hold the pen,,, the palm is not recognised since its in the glove
You don't have to turn it on. Just put the battery and start using it on the Duet. There's no pairing or connecting that needs to be done. It connects automatically.
There have been complaints of the Lenovo pen triggering without even touching the screen. I would suggest contacting Lenovo to get you a replacement unit. That has been the solution most people that had this problem went with.
the tiny battery spring was missing from mine, not sure if they get lost easily but a bit of aluminum foil in its place got the pen working (just in case anyone else has this issue :-))
just got this, i see you have the same minor issues as i do regarding the pen sometimes writing without touching the screen and the palm setting things off. Not a huge deal for me since I got the pen for signings, but i wish they would have solved it by now, hopefully soon since these definitely seem like software issues.
Yes, seems to still be an issue, but I've learned to position my hand to avoid it. Still, we shouldn't have to be the ones to adjust...should be the other way around.
Well, it depends. I did a little coding (HTML, CSS, Javascript) on my Chromebook by enabling Linux and installing the Linux version of Atom, but since the Chromebook uses an ARM chip, as far as I know Atom is currently not compatible. I think VS Code should work though. You will have to do some research pertaining to the type of coding you are going to do, which IDE you will be using, and whether it is compatible with ARM (vs Intel).

hey jojo! great video! sadly, i live in England and can't find a single sales outlet for USI pens.
@@JoJotheTechie It isn't the screen protector, have the pen and no screen protector and it happens.
Good morning I have the HP ;x360 14a -ca0130wm, will a stylus work with this and which one.
I just did some quick research and cannot find in the HP x360 14a specs that it supports USI. I know that it's supported in the 12b and the 14b generations which I believe came after, but cannot find any mention of the 14a actually supporting an active stylus.
@@JoJotheTechie when I flip into tablet mode the keyboard doesn't pop up, what setting do I have to set for it. Thank you Kevin
Will the USI Digital pen work on my Lenovo Idea Pad Flex 5 13"?
Yes, if you are talking about the Lenovo Flex 5 Chromebook, then it is USI enabled and it should definitely work! :)
Hello, is there a tilt detection?
WHAT WAY DOES THE BATTERY FIT!?
So wish it was available in the UK as I need one
I suspect palm rejection only works when the pen is within the vicinity of the screen
so if the pen is within half an inch or an inch or to screen then palm rejection works
in the sense that it only takes input from the pen
That's a good point. I guess I will have to practice placing down the pen point on the tablet first, then resting my palm, which is kind of awkward for me as I'm using to resting my palm first. I have seen others complain about the palm rejection being tricky as well and I know there are several flags for neural palm rejection still in the works. Hopefully the experience improves as chrome os tablets get more popular.
@@JoJotheTechie Have you tried doing that yet? Putting the pen first and see if it rejects the palm? Very good and informative video btw
I have been working at it and when I do get it right the palm rejection does work. It's tricky for me to not have my wrist supported when I set the pen down on the screen. This may be just me and the way I'm used to writing. I'll have to keep working at it.
@@JoJotheTechie the only other suggestion,, get some inexpensive cotton gardening gloves
and cut off the thumb and forefinger,, so you hold the pen,,, the palm is not recognised since its in the glove
Nice review! I'm wondering.
Thanks!
@@JoJotheTechie Welcome JoJo
Carry on. And people will be helped by your video.
Does it work on Lenovo M10 second gen?
how do you turn it on and connect please help!
You don't have to turn it on. Just put the battery and start using it on the Duet. There's no pairing or connecting that needs to be done. It connects automatically.
Does it attach to any part of thë Duet magnetically?
There is one spot near the bottom where it does, but it's not strong enough to stay put. It wasn't made with that feature in mind sadly.
anyone having a problem with it writing slightly without putting any pressure? it’s making my notes look messy. any fix to this?
There have been complaints of the Lenovo pen triggering without even touching the screen. I would suggest contacting Lenovo to get you a replacement unit. That has been the solution most people that had this problem went with.
Have you tried it with the onenote app?
I have not. sorry.
the tiny battery spring was missing from mine, not sure if they get lost easily but a bit of aluminum foil in its place got the pen working (just in case anyone else has this issue :-))
Thanks for offering that solution. I've heard of folks losing theirs while changing out the batteries.
just got this, i see you have the same minor issues as i do regarding the pen sometimes writing without touching the screen and the palm setting things off.
Great video. Great lady 🙏🏼
This pen use for any tablet for Lenovo?
No, just those that are USI compatible.
Can we do coding on it.i mean I am a beginner and just learning languages.can I do it.
@@JoJotheTechie ok thank you.
Does this work with the Thinkpad?
If you're thinking of the Thinkpad that runs windows, then no. This USI pen I believe only works on USI-capable Chromebooks.
Great production value video, but music is to loud and mic to quiet
Hi there. Yes, I know 😊. This was back in the early days of the channel. It's gotten much better since then I promise.
Intro is loud, voice is low.
OMG YESSSS I LITERALLY WAITED FOR THIS LIKE 3MONTH
And i just bought it today:)))
How do you like it so far?
@@JoJotheTechie yeah I rly like it except it doesn't have a eraser on the back
And also it sometimes just does not work idk why but I always have to open the battery and replace it 2 times a day ??
i can sell a paper clip for just $1 and it is affordable too.
Please write the way students take notes, not some random doodle. That's not how it should be taken. We want the real note taking mode.
