My word. When I got to the 12 minute mark I started relating to it all. This is what abuse survivors do, all the things he mentioned.

And we go through life trying to figure out why we behave in certain ways, not knowing that we are just surviving day by day.

Great wisdom coming from pain. "Known pain sometimes is safer than unknown frredem" - the worst thinking pattern to overcome.

Paul you truly are an honest man and despite your despicable abuse, your humanity and love shine through.
In the Jehovah’s witnesses it’s a child sex abuse paradise as children are not listened to. They need two witnesses to the abuse to be believed. Disgusting done under the face of religion.

This is incredible. I'm an MK/TCK and I can relate to almost every word Young says. Wow. I still have so much to work through.

Hey Paul. Thanks so much for sharing your life store in this UA-cam clip. It ought to be mandatory viewing for all outreach mission organisations.
I read your book some years ago & was extremely moved by it. I've shared it with a number of close friends. It's a powerful & wonderful story....
You say in this interview, the 'Shack in our soul' is where the pain in life has to be dealt with. I get that, & the God that turns up to restore relationship & deal with forgiveness, in such grace. Also, your beautiful writing about eternity & Holy Spirit just blew me away.
Next week my wife & I are going to see the movie with two dear friends who've been through some tough times. Just wanted to say thanks again, for writing this story.
    Blessings,
    Mike

Angela P. Hey!!! I have two daughters that were sexually abused on the mission field and we didn’t know either. You know why? They were both threatened with the death of the other sister. We were in a mission that worked with tribal peoples and lived so far away we had to travel by plane to get in and out. We live with constant guilt! We are blessed because our daughters do not hold us accountable for their horrible childhood.

“I believe in a God of fire and fury. Just so you know. But I believe that that fire and fury is one way to look at that relentless affection and love that is pursuing everything in us that keeps us from being free. I believe that 100% of this fury is for us, not against us. And I’m talking about every human being on the planet.”

So many triggers listening to this. So sad to me that for so many mk's this is the story. Think this really puts into words the experiences and feelings of so many.

His parents failed to protect him and they (or whoever sent them) should be ashamed!! Putting children into these situations is just selfish--let the parents go if they're so gungho about it. *Safety is NOT guarenteed anywhere* but omg have some wisdom.

This is all very interesting, but I wonder where Paul Young sees Jesus in all of this. He is obviously a very deeply spiritual-minded person, but if we are "new creatures in Christ Jesus," as I believe Paul Young is, then why the need to go over and over his tortured past the way he does? Where does he see Jesus in all of this, and at what point did he get the victory over the things that plagued him? This is not to demean his testimony, but I'd like to hear less about him and more about what the Lord has done for him.

+William Fossat I sometimes wonder whether that is the problem or turn-off of many testimonies in churches today (for me at least). What is so amazing about praising God for the victories in life? Isn't that a "given"? I'd like to hear more testimonies from people who are still struggling and clinging on to their faith... people who have yet to overcome (or who will probably never completely overcome on this side of eternity) but haven't given up or thrown in the towel.

I think Jesus is teaching him and revealing to him the way he can be healed. Paul is telling us he has learnt the way to heal the traumatic experiences he has been through in his life. Jesus the Holy Spirit and the Father together are revealing this to him. I think you are looking for stereotypical and traditional ways of expressing oneself. If you have been severely traumatised you do not stick to a formula.

William: as I see it, he has become a teacher to all who have suffered as he did. Since he overcome a terrible situation, he tells all the details to describe the method God used to heal him. As a result, people can see an actual story of victory that every one can understand to believe it can happen to them too. Sounds kind of relieving.

This guy's story has to be told ..... This is such a familiar and too common of a story..... His story happened in the 1950's, but I know of stories similar to his told by people born in the 1970's, and even in the 1990's. Unaware, uninformed parents neglecting their children due to negligence and abuse by parents, and due to their own anger and inner turmoil and demons, as well as societal neglect and predatory abuse... Still occurring today. Dear Holy Spirit, I need you.

You said that the church kicks you out if they know your sins, I disagree I believe you are in the wrong church. If they are not there to help you then they are NOT a true Christian church. And God does forgive our sins if you just ask. You do not have to tell anyone but him and release it to him. And yes tell those who you know love you. God Bless and help you. Through your own trials

My friends got kicked out of a church because they found out he did time for something, so yes it happens ---not all churches live out Christs love.

Actually, confession means being honest and it requires courage. It sets you free when you tell someone. I was a porn addict and I never got free until I actually told someone. It's easy to tell God, he knows. It's harder to trust him with secrets that belong with other people.

As you say, our uniqueness is what makes it so difficult to "get fixed" though conventional means (psychology, religion etc.) because only the One who made us can fix us.

We go after stories of sexual redemption through Christ, even on occasion when someone may be off in some of their unrelated beliefs. His belief in universalism, for example, is unbiblical, but not an error that would bring risk to his salvation. Additionally, he doesn't mention those beliefs in the interview.

Personally I think he worked out his early life in his book could be a great thing. I am not sure I agree with his theology but I can see the therapy in his writing. I don't think you have to improve on the gospel. The fruit of the spirit can be a condemnation, really the fruit of the spirit is Jesus. Mostly he has to get the grace to forgive. I am sure it is a process.

    • @janisrough5858

I do think he has a point about the church needs to be accepting of people in process or in addictions. That is very very true. I also believe religion is mans efforts to save themselves. So far I have not heard the gospel in his message.

And you keep saying it's the people. Ephesians 6:12 says we wrestle not against flesh and blood. You say you were molested as a child. Whoever molested you, were probably molested as well. Molestation is a spirit from the evil one, and it's passed down from generation to generation. In the movie the Angel at the end talks about this. You know the angel behind the waterfall. We have to ask Jesus to help us break the molestation spirit. When the people were having sex 10 ft. from you all. That was a principality using the people for its purpose.
