I grew up in Canton, graduated in ‘96 from Plymouth-Canton. I’ve seen a ton of changes to the community since the early 80’s. Decided to buy a home in Downtown Plymouth - a place that has changed for the better since the 80’s!
If people are surprised by the traffic or the amount of people there , imagine how I feel since that's where I grew up. Back in the 60s I lived in the country ! The corner of Sheldon and Ford ( both were 2 lane ) , the next road east was a dead end dirt road ... that's where I lived .
@@PaulWolfert no I moved to Ann Arbor/ Ypsilanti then down to Monroe . Met my husband and moved to his small town . Love it , I can get to a big city easily but don't have to live in one .
On the one hand you complain about Ford road but on the other, you people will fight tooth and nail to keep ANY pedestrian and non-car dependent infrastructure from ever being built. If you want driving to be easier, you want MORE walk-able areas and MORE bike paths, more public transport options including light rails. For people looking at this channel and who hate Ford road, look up the channel Not Just Bikes, specifically the stuff about stroads(a combo of street and road).
the point is to make sure that ONLY those people drive who WANT to drive and not angry people who have to drive to complete an errand that is less than 2 miles from their house/apartment.
wow, just came across this randomly. I moved to Canton from Detroit as a youngish child with my parents in 1974. It was mostly corn fields then, but 5 or 6 years later it was filled with subdivisions. Graduated Canton HS mid 80's. Moved to Ann Arbor and then eventually Denver. Not to interested in ever going back there. Certainly looks like it grew a lot more. Ford Road has been a nightmare for years. I worked at the long gone Mr. Steak on the corner of Ford and Sheldon as a dishwasher during my HS years. There was a fairly large concert venue named Center Stage near Ford and Haggerty, I saw the Psychedelic Furs there mid 80s. I heard that place is long gone.
Mr. Steak is now “Mexican Fiesta” and the Kroger across the street is now a Walgreens. Kroger moved down to Ford Rd. and Canton Ctr. where Julian’s Party Store was located. We moved to Canton in 1985 and it’s not even close to the same type of community it was back then. Every square inch of land is almost fully developed now and the the traffic all over town is bad; especially on Ford Rd. from Sheldon to 275.
@@mbrowning1970 thanks for the update! Mexican Fiesta, I do remember that now, it’s been there probably 25 years now I’m guessing. Lots of middle eastern and Indian (the country) folks have moved there is what a friend of mine told me awhile back. Plymouth is still Plymouth apparently. Safe and white.
The general rule of thumb is that most, if not all of the older neighborhoods east of Canton Ctr. - except Glengary subdivision and a couple of other smaller new developments - have fences. Almost all of the newer neighborhoods west of Canton Ctr. (most built between 1993 - 2005) don’t allow fences. The exception being Cherry Hill Village.
It depends on the subdivision, developer, and the HOA rules. Every sub since the 70's has a homeowner's association, who makes or enforces the rules, some associations more than others. They usually charge dues , also for garbage and street cleaning for snow.

@@PaulWolfert It has to do with farmers and property lines back in the day. Canton Twp. was so rural, it really did not have it's own school district back then; only a handful of one room school houses. Therefore, the SE part of the township was closer to Wayne, MI which was an established town with an established school district and the same is true for the SW part of the township being closer to Belleville, MI which was an established small town.
