  • its done! its here! its ready to use, kinda, once i figure out every thing i want to do with it unless something happens to a a current project it will be an easy answer... so, what should we do next with this, i wanna do a bunch of different heads and intakes if possible or just go strait for the turblow?

    I've used Summit Racings LS 6.125" rods, pistons, and there Stage 1 camshaft on a customers 5.3. Worked great and a lot more torque. I also used zero gap rings. It was my first LS build
    The truck had 48,000 miles with 4 cracked pistons, 14 clasped lifters (broken or clasped plunger springs), 1 broken valve spring, 2 bent rods, and not one valve was seating completely. The owner is a 78 year old man who doesn't hot rod anything he drives. Always maintenance at the dealership... l'd say there's a manufacturing issue when his engine was made. Also, his transmission had problems and it was the valve body. GM wouldn't fix any of it.

      I would think it should have stronger tq throughout the front 2/3rds of the rpm band. It might not want to rev as high all things being equal N/A, addong boost would cure any lack of head or cam the long stroke might crave. This sort of combination screams too me pure boost block, stroke to spool quicker, thick walls to handle pressure, quell any lack of stiffness and craving boost to fill the cylinders that aren't filled with big valves acuated buy radical timing and high compression.

    • @Noggles10
      @Noggles10 4 роки тому +8

      hendo337 I can see that as well. I’m thinking daily driver style engine without many mods or boost. Something to get a 6.0 torque but maybe better gas mileage for say a Tahoe or Silverado. I’d love for more power and torque without the trade off of gas mileage or the extra complexity boost brings to the table.

      @@Noggles10 I have been thinking about converting my LS1 block too 58x with a 6.0 crank, LSA rods and honing too 3.902-3.908" for 347-348ci with a touch extra ring gap and running it behind a 6L90e in a Silverado 2500, Suburban 2500 or Express 2500 with a 3.42 14 bolt. Would be a boost sympathetic, light, fuel efficient fun engine that would be sweet in a multipurpose fun family vehicle. Unless I just make a 383 stroker with it, I like the aluminum 5.3/363 stroker idea, it just stings a bit giving up that 20ci of bore for the same $$.

  • @steven44799
    @steven44799 4 роки тому +11

    why not just buy some aftermarket rods as they are easy to come by instead of gen4 rods, piston ring gap seems to be a killer followed by rods letting go with too much torque. So aftermarket rods, gap the rings on the stock pistons and throw em back in? Budget built motor vs 1 or 2 big turbos and go for 1000+ wheel.

    • @Red2l16v
      @Red2l16v 4 роки тому +1

      The biggest issue is aftermarket rods use brushed floating pins and stock pistons don't have locks. So a stock bore rod/piston motor is the best way to do it. The whole assembly would be much stronger and easier than blowing up a bunch of stock crap.

I bored out a gen 4 lc9 around the same time you did to a 3.81 bore with summit 4032 forged -15cc relief pistons, a K1 4" forged stroker crank and rods, new comp cam hydraulic lifters, thicker push rods, minor head work/cleaning to accommodate slightly oversized manley racing valves with dual springs, a .650 high lift tsp stage 2 truck cam, a 1.8k-2.1k stall truck towing rated torque converter and i gotta so far im really impressed with the difference. This is my first engine build and have kinda relied on youtube and with covid bs I havent had a chance to dyno the truck yet because but even with a basic safe tune and factory injectors and some minor airflow adjustments everything just seems way meaner right out the gate. Cant wait till i get her 100% dialed in all the way! Hope u post your na dyno numbers as they would be a good comparison for me. Like you i think im gonna eventually gap my rings for a pro charger/boost one day but cant complain too much about the stroker na power increase i got right now. Using the summit compression ratio calculator I think you guys are super close. I think it will wind up around 10.5:1 compression, 360 cu in, with 5 over pistons, 4 inch stroke, looks like the block was decked and assuming un-cut 243 or 799 heads going on this with 64.43cc chambers and a ls9 compressed gasket height of 0.055 thickness. This assumes 2cc dished piston by the looks of it. I did a de-stroke 6.2L using factory parts with 10.5:1 compression and now I am interested in copying your new setup using an aluminum 5.3 with the 5 over pistons but using 2cc dome for 11.11:1 compression ratio with decked block and milled heads. Here's an idea, lots of people say 4 digit LSs really don't last when racing them, so what if you build this to a properly fast street legal race car setup and do drag week with the mustang. I'm thinking like 1500hp realm? A pistons/rods LS putting down those sorts of numbers, consistently on the track and driving to races would be really something to see.

    I am really curious why. The al 5.3l are a work of art but if they need some work they usually get a good punch or sleeves to go even bigger. How much you paid for this short block plus the cost to machine the bores and the hassle of different pistons makes a factory ls2 block a really inviting option. They cost less than $1500 shipped to your front door and would add 40 cubic inches over this combo. Given you have an entirely new rotating assembly, it seems odd especially given the choices for cylinder heads you get with the bigger bore.

    Get back under 100k lmao. I still remember the run up to 100k. Your wife was on facbook responding and interacting with us all. I was gonna go door to door. Still absolutely cant believe it. Up till that point I would have bet a paycheck you were 500k easy. Dont understand it. Feel like I've brought 500 myself to you. Guys at work as me a turbo ls question. 1st question. "You haven't watched it on sloppy? Do you know who Matt is"? If not go there 1st. He will explain it at any level you will ever want.

    I may have a 5.3 with a cylinder deactivation issue for you. If this customer doesn't fix it then I'm offering scrap value for it. The block is good it just keeps sticking intake lifters on cylinder 4.

    Are all 5.3 LS blocks the same, even the C code transverse mounted car version? Just the bare block is the question. Can I build a C coded block with truck internals? Love the change of pace here SM... I may do something similar.

      the LS4 fwd 5.3 has no starter mount, the crank is shorter, timing cover, water pump and accessories are all more compact.

      @rdub79lx 4 роки тому

      I've been looking at those 62/62 with the 1.01 v band housing and the 67/66 billet T4 turbos. Either one would hit 4 digits, but the 67s would leave a little more room to grow.

    I would look to speed engineering long tubes, they have a slew of China longtube swap headers. People have had really good results with them. Great buy for the price of under $300ish. Also I just got some next gen 62/62 dbb billet 1.01 a/r dual v band wuhan boys from viren, they have mirrored housings and he believes they will support 1k+ whp. I wont be able to push them that far on my gen 4 rods, but I would be very interested to see where they run out of steam. Goodluck with the build, looking forward to results.

    I’d be interested in you slapping a centrifugal supercharger on there. I came by a Vortech V1 for like $700, so you can snag a head unit for pretty reasonable these days. I built my own passenger side mount and have a bracket template if you want it. It was pretty easy, even with just hand tools.

      Sloppy Mechanics has anyone tried dropping a set of piston and rods in no balance. I know the weights are very similar to stock pieces
