Western Wednesday: Western 062 Folding Hunter

That knife is the same vintage as me... old. 😆😆 In Western's pamphlet (Knife Nostalgia) it states that the use of bone for handle material ended in 1961 with the introduction of "acetal resin" (Delrin). With that stamp and the Delrin covers I'd bet 1961-62 would be a good guess. The 062 is classic. You don't see many of them that age without a broken tip on the main blade. Both of mine have shortened tips, so extra good on your 062 AND you got the original (correct) sheath. Beautiful job on the clean up.
Before the Buck 110's started showing up in our hunting camp (~1974) the Western 062 was THE most common folding hunter I'd seen used, probably because every hardware and sporting goods store in this area carried Western knives. My Grandfather preferred the 39 and 66 pattern fixed blades for hunting. Almost all of us that hunted with him learned how to field dress, skin and butcher a Deer with those knives. The secondary blade on the 062 is excellent for fish processing and does a decent job filleting.

Great job came out unbelievable. It actually looks smaller than the case full back hunter. I had one case fullback hunter that was a lock back, but I sold it for 200 bucks because I bought it at my local pawnshop for $70 and sold it for 200. Not sure what the temperature is in your area, but I hope you’re staying cool 98 today here in Brighton , Massachusetts 10 minutes outside of Boston i’ve been I’ve been told it supposed to be hot tomorrow not really looking forward to that. Looks great! I finally got the book, the knife makers that moved West, I haven't had a chance to look at it yet. Just an FYI, the person selling the book on eBay will knock the price down a little bit and they are brand new
