Suddenly my narrowboat feels enormous... Thanks for the tour, Mark. Too small for me, though. I would rather travel in a small car with a big tent. Room to entertain on rainy days. (A friend of mine had an absolutely minute Fiat camper. Based on the 126, I think. That was so far beyond ludicrous it was wonderful. A pup tent on wheels. Last saw that at a bluegrass festival in Edale. Late 80's)... Have yourself a fine trip, sir.
Cheers Bill, I used to have an S class Mercedes Hymer which was huge. Got to balance comfort when parked up vs usability on the road. This is my compromise. I worked on a Fiat camper on the 900 van,now that was small.
Thanks for a very informative video. I’m not long back from 12 days in France cycling in the Alps, I towed my caravan from near Barnard Castle in County Durham to Le Bourg d’ Oisans using the tunnel. Whilst I thoroughly enjoyed it I found it very expensive due mainly to the £575 tunnel charge and €2.20 per litre for diesel (25mpg towing the van). I’m very interested in how you find it as I’ve now sold the caravan and am considering a camper van.
Hi Terry. I am just back from Albania / Greece in the van. Ferry cost £185 return with one sailing flexibility either side of booked time with DFDS. The van did 33mpg, diesel was a bit less than you paid, but still expensive. The big advantage with a van is easier parking in towns, plus the network of camper van stops across Europe that are not available to towed caravans. Having said that once you are parked up on site, your car is easier to run around in locally. Motorway tolls are often cheaper too eg Greece has a height based rate and I should have been in the higher class but only one booth attendant bothered checking out of around 20, harder to disguise the fact that you are towing. The downside is that camper vans are expensive at the moment but that may the same with caravans?
Hi, thanks for taking the time to reply. I’ve now sold the caravan and I’m just going to “sit on my hands” whilst I decided what to do next. My ideal solution would be a camper van and Autosleepers have a very good reputation which is why I watched (and will continue to watch) your vlog. Unfortunately money is tight and it’s a lot for a vehicle which will sit on the drive for perhaps 48 weeks a year 🤷🏻♂️
Yep, it is a big investment for a short time as you say. I am fortunate(?) to be old and so can wander off for longer periods of time, when hotel bills would be crippling, but even so it is still a big commitment.
Very, Nice way to take quick trips, Enjoy and see you on your adventures.
Cheers Max, travel content coming up depending on wifi
Happy travels Mark. Drive safe🚐🚐🌞🌞
Cheers Conor, I will do my best!
