Noticed the gun nerf on this recently 🕊💔. The flight performance is still fine though so you can fly around it. This, the Ki-84 and the Ki-43-III are my favourite planes in the entire game
I have overdosed on the Hornet MkIII. The speed and climb rate, plus good guns, makes it one of my favourite planes. I feel the mosquito should have been matched against opponents to make it similar... but it is outclassed at its, err, class in WT.
Used to love this thing. You can very easily energy trap over-confident single-engine fighters in it, one of the best if not the best heavy fighter. The engines get very hot very quickly though.
yup, you climbed to space, "utrned the engines off" and just cruise until you find some poor saps below, dive climb repeat and pray the engines last long enough.
i tried the GE thing, did a task for like 5k GE but after doing everything it never paid me out. i did so much time on it too but in the end it really just didnt work :/
Yeah, love that things dogfight performance. Just a shame that by 12.0 BR the meta is firmly in favor of the radar guided missile slingers. It's like having to use a shotgun against a bunch of snipers on a mountain. If you get close enough, you'll absolutely slap anyone you face, but good luck reaching them first without being VERY careful.

DEFYN, can you fly out the Israeli A-4H? I apparently it's an A-4E with a working engine, DEFAs and it's at 8.3. It only takes out your AIM-9Bs but that's a fair price?
What kills it for me is the maneuverability, you can stall someone out and if they don't commit way too hard, they'll have recovered by the time you're back on them and can't pull in due to the atrocious rudder and responsiveness
I ended up preferring the J5N1 a great deal more than my beloved Ki-83. It's got similar performance (just a bit fatter) and about 2 gaijillion rounds in the 20mms, which is useful after the 30mms were ruined. People also tend to have no idea what you even are, more so than the other high tier Japanese props, many assume you're just some kind of bomber. Matchmaker is slightly better but all it takes is a slight uptier to 6.0 to have games ruined by F2G zombies and AD4s obliterating tickets. I am mad every single time that I think about the BRs of most high tier props in Japan.

When I use mec in this plane I lose a lot of power, so I just don’t use it a lot. At what altitudes do you switch the supercharger gears? I believe that might be the reason why I lose so much performance while using mec
this plane was tested with high octane fuel by the USAAF postwar giving it a substantial amount more power, always thought itd be cool if we could get that as an event vehicle or modification

The fact you have to mention that the lower BRs have the same hyper aggressive gameplay and matches have become shorter for the solo player is shocking. Sure at top tier when everyone's going mach jesus in the middle of the map I get it, but prop tier used to be the one to go to for the actual engaging combat. Now it's just the same stuff.
I tried getting used to its guns, but Gayjin really messed them up. I just use the j5n1 now, its guns slap and has the flight performance to back it up

I notice you change the supercharger gears. do they change auto if we dont select the gear? What gear is low vs high? what happens if you use the high altitude gear at low altitude?
To answer your question, as Defyn said, it's only on MEC, but when the supercharger has to be changed varies from plane to plane, requiring detailed testing (tho there are graph makers for this aswell). Also, if you use a high altitude gear at low altitude, it just slows down your plane tremendously, that's why it's important to know the exact altitude where your plane would start rapidly dropping HP if you would still be on your first supercharger. It's basically the most important part to look out for when using MEC.
@@cobalt0681 Don't be afraid of MEC. It can be pretty brainless to use. Think driving stick over automatic. There's a lazy trick for finding when to swap gears: Go to cockpit view, look at the gear switch. Swap between AEC and MEC and see if it changes as a consequence. Biggest gear complication is that on cold/hot/neutral maps you want different altitudes for it but it's kind of intuitable if you fly the same plane a lot.

The overheating was the smallest issue for me, it's the fact it's so painfully draggy, unable to keep up with linear retention, making you dump all your speed the moment you pitch back up. I faced this aircraft everytime I met Japan on enemy 6.0 and the only time I died to one I was AFK stirring food... on me264
Most planes leave mixture be until you get above 5 or 6km where you will need to drop it. A few specific planes, like the P-47s, produce more engine power with a specific mixture setting and prop setting than they do in AEC meaning that you have to use MEC in them to get the best performance. Anything more specific just ask.
For gear switches, just use cockpit view and swap between AEC/MEC to see if it automatically swaps gears. Rule of thumb, AEC swaps gear later than optimal during climbs. For radiators, oil can be about 10-15 below water usually. Prop pitch is basically Acceleration (high) vs max speed (lowish). Or alternatively, energy generation vs energy retention. If you're running away and are trying to increase energy retention, lower pitch can be helpful. You basically want maximum thrust in a dogfight for energy generation though. If you ever lose your engine and are trying to RTB, set pitch to 0%. If you're going in too fast to land, set pitch to 100%. Although for landing too fast, there's a very reliable and fast method: Overhead break. Prop pitch speedbrake should only be used to land if you're too damaged to risk an overhead break. Overhead break: Fly at max throttle towards the airfield descending to 1 km altitude. At 1 km altitude and half-way over your runway (or just over the touchdown zone), go idle, bank right and in a level turn execute a 2-4g 180 degree turn. The faster you go, the more Gs. In my F2H-2, I go for about 3G for 800 km/h overhead break AND deploy airbrakes. After you're parallel with the runway again, nose down until you're past the runway and make an about 2 degree turn once more. Done right, you'll be touching down at 250 km/H over the runway regardless of your descent speed with gear and flaps out.
I just find it annoying that ALL japanese planes HAVE to turn well. Im not turn fighting any of them, personally, cause I've been playing this game since 2012 and i know a thing or two, but...really...every freaking japanese plane turns well, even the bombers

I got around overheating with PP 85 RAD/OIL at 45. I also use identical set up for Ki 44 II
