      Cheers Robert. The Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park authority have made a good job of signage without being too intrusive. Great area for walks.

    Hi Eddy, great views from that path, I've passed the big stane a few times but never ventured up to the hill fort. My wife and I walked along there one day and came across some coo's grazing. A big broon wan was staunin' across the path wi' a look that said whit are you dain here. Ma wife got feart and turned back. Ah must go back tae the hills again tae the lonely hils fur a pie.

      Hi Colin. I've been in that coo situation masel'. Always a difficult decision re whether to boldly continue or make swiftly for an exit. Cows are all individuals, and like humans there are some bad ones in there. But I love them all. Take care.

    Hi Eddy, really interesting to learn more of the history of the area, and to see a close up of Samson’s stone, after only having seen it from the A821.
    I remember in the previous video your reference to “coming home” when describing these particular surroundings. I can recall a friend of mine who grew up in Perth saying the very same thing, as his grandparents lived in the Trossachs.
    Take care Eddy and best regards, Rob.

      Many thanks for your comment. A look at the history of the railway would indeed be an interesting video. I'm always looking for ideas. All the best.

    You might want to look out for the scrape lines gouged out by glaciers on the rock bed. And, the rock formed from the ground-up debris (glacial tills), with their jagged edged stone inclusions.

    I'ts a very good area for walking. A little farther north there's the amazingly quiet Kirkton Glen which has excellent forest roads for walking. Next to it is Balquidder Glen and Loch Voil. St Angus came to Balquhidder Glen in the 8th or 9th century and recognised what the Celts called a "thin place" where the boundary between Earth and Heaven was close. Maybe a good place for a video? If you left Glasgow you would miss the likes of the Old Toll Bar and perhaps the World's only subway that you cant get lost on😁

      Definitely great walking in the Balquhidder area and Kirkton Glen. Roll on Summer.

    Thoroughly enjoyed this, Ed. Thank you for sharing this with us. Always learn something new from you. That area is one of my most favourite in Scotland; Loch Lubnaig being somewhere I never tire of. I too, feel very at home there (even though I'm a "Sassenach") but as far as I know, I have no Scottish ancestry, unfortunately, only Yugoslavian! I'm learning Scottish Gaelic though, which is a tremendously beautiful language! Thanks again, Ed. All the best.

      Many thanks. Good luck with the Gaelic; I imagine it's quite difficult to learn; I think there's a programme on the TV teaching it.

    Passed Kilmahog plenty of times, always said, why don't ya Kilyerainhog! Love your video's Eddie. No other youtuber does the research, use of maps, google on high views, that you do. Your production and patter n pies makes for a great view. Kilmahog as in many Scottish place names, originates from some sort of church on the site. Take care.

    • @EdExploresScotland
      @EdExploresScotland  Рік тому +2

      Many thanks for that. I'm probably a little thin with the research at times. I did think to visit that old graveyard and chapel site at Kilmahog, but there's been a lot of rain and flooding in the area and access looked very very muddy. Some day. Take care.

    Oddly enough a large and what looks likely to be internationally significant Pictish cross has very recently been found between Callander and Doune and is in the process of excavation and preservation. We see this area via the planned 18th Century "new town" that is modern Callander and the military road. The historic links however include now abandoned routes via Braeleny to Glenartney and then to Comrie, Crieff and Findo Gask. You are really not that far from the Pictish heartland. When eventually we are all in flying cars or drone taxis the landscape will begin to make sense to us again.

    • @EdExploresScotland
      @EdExploresScotland  3 місяці тому

      Thanks for that Simon. An area rich in a Pictish past.

    You would have had plenty of time to get out of the way. The speed varies between and within glaciers. My guess is that the average is of the order of hundreds of meters a year, and on the low side of that. Always glad to see you taking an interest in the geology, in the land of James Hutton.

    • @EdExploresScotland

      In first year at university I had the choice of archaeology or geology (like an extra subject over and above the biological science I was there for). I chose archaeology - would've been good to do both.
