A Walk Through Glen Ample, from Loch Earn to Loch Lubnaig

- A hike in Glen Ample, with Strathyre Forest to the west and the mountainous slopes of Ben Vorlich on the east, within the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park.
The walk starts by Loch Earn, with views of Lochearnhead and the mountainous pass of Glen Ogle. Initially following the fast-flowing waters of the Burn of Ample, the route heads south, by the steading of Glenample, and continues below Stuc a Chroin on a forest track that eventually passes high above Ardchullarie More, with views down onto Loch Lubnaig.
We end in the tiny site of St Bride's Chapel, not far from the rocky crag called Creag a Chaibeil, which is Gaelic for Chapel Rock.
With an atmosphere of times past, and a feel of remote places in wild Scottish glens, the video gently takes the viewer by the hand and leads them through the sort of mountainous scenery that Scotland is quite rightly famous for.
Lovely lovely lovely, those looked like fruit trees at 11:00, the rocks and stones keep the warmth of the sun a bit longer than earth does so is good for plants that are used to a warmer climate than we get in Scotland. Used to walk all over there when I was in the terries, was a great time if you forget the waiting for transport, weather, sleeping on rough ground in leaky tents.
Midges, colleagues farting, rations, carrying the radio, wet feet etc.
It was a strange out-of-place bunch of trees. Wonder what they were doing there.
Hi Eddie 18.26pm. Ireland time Sunday again. Nice to see hear you ❤️ Glad you knack on those pies. Best wishes. Thanks as always.👍🙋🥰 kind regards Niall O'Connell Eire.
Thank you for highlighting this lovely wee Glen. I know it very well having spent a few months there studying it for my geology dissertation at uni!
Hi Ed, I just discovered you while trying to find something on the TV to cheer me up ( I don't watch much TV) Well ! that said, I am watching every episode of yours I can find. You have brought back my memories ! thank you so much I love your shows. You even talk like me Ha1 Ha! I live in Australia but grew up in Kilmarnock and I used to do all that walking that you are doing now. Our country is beautiful and you show it so well, Thank You so much
Thanks Anne.
Great new video Sir 🫡 AND….The Pie Review is back ‼️✊🏼
You’ve packed this one with interesting stuff from Rotten Rucksacks to Terrible Toilet Facilities in Yoker ‼️ Brilliant Ed
Cheers Graham. By the way I'll need to look more into that band of yours - that rough demo of the song you're working on sounds seriously good. 👍
Wonderful video Eddy, and a great area to have the pleasure of spending a day out.
The Trossachs National Park and its surroundings is pure magic, I am envious of you having the whole place to yourself, although it did look a bit chilly!
Your music is amazing as well and adds to the enjoyment of the videos.
Thanks Eddy, and looking forward to more adventures, best regards, Rob.
Many thanks Rob.
Another great Wee video Ed well done . Some fab scenery all the best

Great video! 🌄🚶♂ I loved seeing the beautiful countryside and hearing about your adventure. ⛰📷 It's always important to stay safe while exploring, but it looks like you had a great time. Have a braw weekend! 🏴

Sometimes you've just got to escape the madness of the world and take yourself off to remote areas of Scotland. 👍
Really enjoyed this video Ed,loved your music I miss Scotland so much ,I also watch this other video called Living The Sky Life it's about a couple that sold their flat in the city and bought a wee cottage in Sky very interesting and I just love the solitude feeling I get when watchin it,as I do your videos thx so much Ed
Thanks Glenn. I know the video channel you mean. I'm always very jealous of that remote croft in Skye. Maybe some day. Take care.
Cracker as always Ed. St Brides chapel was one i never head of before, not to be confused with St Brides church in Douglas ,Lanarkshire , which is well worth a visit. Great stuff pal , liked the wee song as well. 👍🍺👍
Cheers Billy.
An excellent video - carry on as you do- some of us love'm!( and you excelkent "band")
Thanks Roger.
Great video Ed as always. I did this walk last year from Loch Lubnaig to Loch to Loch Earn and back. Lovely walk indeed. Wasn’t aware of the chapel. Well done for finding it.
Sorry about your rucksack. I’ve had mine for years and still going strong-it’s a Berghaus. Not the cheapest but I would buy the exact same one if anything happened to it.
Thanks for posting. And lovely music too.
Cheers Alan. I should probably pay a bit more for a decent rucksack. Always the skinflint.
Thank you Ed for another beautiful walk! All the best to you
Many thanks Ann.
🧙keep warm :)
The rucksack failure five minutes before leaving the house threw me, otherwise I'd have had an extra layer available.👍
A couple of years ago I was at the same start of this walk. A pheasant kept following me, looking for some food. There was a small place nearby for parking a couple of cars then, but its now been closed off. I'll need to give it another visit and maybe try the walk during a dry spell. I'll give the pies at the Mhor shop in Callander a try soon. Great video.👍
Many thanks. Mhor Bakery pies are probably the finest in the country.
Excellent video Eddy. Thanks for sharing it. It’s great to see you out and about this Spring.
Happy Easter!
Cheers Lynn. Happy Easter to you too.
Great video Ed 👍
Thanks 👍
I walked most of Glen Ample after doing the ridge from Beinn Each to Stuc a' Chroin, very nice. I have a non-waterproof DSLR and use an exped dry bag, clipped around my rucksack in a rolled up loop within reach and as soon as i feel spots of rain I open it, pop it over the camera round my neck and clip where the strap is, works a treat.
Thanks for that. I can probably handle spots of rain using plastic bags for the camera.
Absolutely brilliant Eddy, really enjoyed this one..seems a very remote area for hiking,I don't really like people haha so this walk would suit me great!! Thanks for sharing 😁
Cheers Andy. Yes, it's a very remote walk. I'm not that fond of people either. I think the world would be a far better place if there were no people in it. 😜
@@EdExploresScotland Who, then, would make your pies ?
Loved this, Ed. Really enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing. Loch Lubnaig will always be my favourite loch. This is our usual stomping ground when we visit Scotland, but Dunoon is beckoning this time. Only 34days...Cheers again Ed. Hope you're doing alright. All the best.
Many thanks. Dunoon's always worth a visit. I wonder if they ever got the Fairy Glen up and running again. It was shut last time I was there due to subsidence.
@@EdExploresScotland That was somewhere I looked in to visiting after watching one of your videos, but I'm sure when I checked, it's still closed sadly.
Hi Eddy, as you say, with forest tracks you have to be careful not to follow one that ends in a dead end. Great scenery and mostly good tracks.
A little wet in places, but great just being out in such an area.
If you continue on the track it takes you down to the loch car park with the cafe 😊
I think that's where I ended up. Should have continued, as the walk along the side of the road from there was very dangerous and to be avoided totally.
Very Good Ed, Did you try the tottie scones at the bakers at the corner of the square in Callender?
I'm sorry Dougie, I forgot all about it, although I think I bought my quiche in that bakers.
Hi Eddie saw your video talking about your backpack. Go outdoors have a euro hike bag 85 litres gets 5 stars. One my favourite parts of scotland there where you were.
Cheers Craig. I'll check that rucksack out.
Have you thought about trying to crowd fund for the Go Pro?
It's certainly an idea, but I don't think I'll bother. But thank you for the suggestion.
