lol I know right. I use to do it with my windows xp. I would reformat my pc every day or other weekend. But I regret doing it now. Its not much a difference.

So, to be clear: by restoring past save files this way, you will DELETE all data (including your current saves!!!) from your console! In other words, this is NOT a viable method to backup your save files!
Agree with you but... for the moment is the only method for transfer PS5 saves from console to USB if you don't have the PS +

I just bought a 32 gb flash drive. So there's no way the ps5 is going to read it? And I can't format it like fat 32 like i did on the ps4? It's useless?

Worst part is the reason I'm even looking this up is because my launch PS5 decided to die on Sunday and I just received my replacement. I was playing a game on my buddy's PS5 and wanted to transfer the save file. Looks like I get to start over again because I'm not paying $60 just to transfer a single save file. Sony = assholes.
That is why im never going to pay for ps plus never again, Steam and Xbox live already have a free cloud storage for your Save Data but sony still thinks that they are doing a favor to us by only giving this option if you pay for an expensive service.
Maybe we should start a petition to make Sony add an option for properly backing up PS5 saves?

I think this is a good solution with one big problem. I am using another person's PS5 but i just want to transfer that game to my existing PS5. Based on this, i would replacing the data hence deleting all my other saves for this one. I wish Sony made a better solution.

PS5 is the first and the last PlayStation for me. I think PS Plus Extra is really worth it because of the monthly games and the catalog, but I just hate being forced to subscribe in fear of losing game progress. The purchase of PS5 only made me prefer Steam even more.
What makes it worse is the fact that only the user that has purchased psn has access to cloud storage but other users on the same console do not benefit from cloud storage but have access to online multi player and downloaded games via the account that does have psn. Sony expects each user on the same console where console sharing is enabled to purchase psn if they want their data to be backed up to the cloud.
Imagine you backup one game and then you restore the backup and at this moment you release you have deleted pretty much everything except the single save backup you have created. This method exactly like that.

you buy psplus, you upload save files, you put your acount on the other console, you download the save files from the cloud

If you don't have a PlayStation Plus and only have an USB hard drive but don't know what you're doing DO NOT try this method, you will risk losing everything and won't get it back.

I imaging it would all be so much easier if you simply pay for ps plus. They probably felt they couldn't completely remove this option just yet and it will be gone completely with the ps6, but they could at least make it as inconvenient for us as possible for this gen.

Do you know if when you backup the game data and settings from the ps5 to the USB, does it backs it up for all users in the ps5? Or only for one specific user? The reason I asked is because when restoring the message says all user profiles will be deleted.

I can see it being useful in case the console is used for modified/repaired/hacking it’s basically PS5 hard drive but it can also include digital games with massive GB not all USB storage have capacity to carry downloaded games so it’s highly recommend to use physical games rather than digital

I have checked the operation and it works correctly and it does not delete the data of the console itself or at least it has not deleted them for me I rebooted the console and everything was as it was and the USB has the data saved what I recommend is to disconnect the USB connect it to the computer and leave a backup copy there just in case and every X time make a backup copy
I didn't have to factory restore my ps5 to save to usb, so glad I found a way to copy to usb using ps5.
What did you do cause? I'm not trying to have to do this.
I was able to save my ps5 data to my ps4 data and then saved from the ps4 data to usb.

No I just used the ps5, it was with Elden Ring which I have a ps4 and ps5 version on the ps5 so this maybe why it was easy to do just with the ps5.

So we can't upload a save file onto a usb like we can on the PS4 that doesn't require basically a factory reset?

This is not a good solution. Thank you for the video, but, I will like this people could do better allowing the same option to copy save files to an usb like in the ps4 section. This is just another way to push the subscription in your face. Something that I already have, but I wanted an extra save specifically inside my own drive. Turns out I can't have it.
Man I wish I got that option of the ps4 stuff. I can’t get any thumb drives or hard drives to work on my ps5 and my Mac. Such a bummer. Was hoping to use save wizard for Ragnarok. But I’m completely blocked at the file share stage. My ps5 won’t even read my thumb drives.

I just wanted a solution to transfer my FIFA 23 save from PC to PS5 and from PS5 to PC, both being the same game and the same load file.
If i'm backing up my games progress with the saved files, to a USB as in this video..... each time i do it, do i need to delete the old files before redoing the process you described? or can i just do the same process without deleting the old saved files, and it will over-write them?
Do you have a fix for game saves getting corrupted? 2nd time this has happened in the last couple weeks, I've lost 10 hours of gameplay each time. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thumbs up on your video by the way.
This is so annoying.
On PS5 you can save a backup of a game to the cloud. So if your game gets corrupted you can load the cloud version. I don't know if both can corrupted so that this may not work(?). I don't know if there is a way to test PS5 hard drives for errors? Also do you turn off your PS5 or do a proper shutdown? If your PS5 is on a wall switch and you turn it off that way, stuff can get corrupted.
I had this happen several times with Dead Island: Riptide but nothing else.
I've had 550 hours wasted on NFS Unbound bc of "corrupted file" honestly feels like they did this on purpose, like every gen console has a flaw or two, that isn't by accident they know exactly what they're doing. If you think they don't, think again .

I wonder if you can do the PS4 method once you copy to USB from the PS5 that was first shown. Then use a save editor for No Man's Sky (Using the NMS PS4 version on the PS5 of course) Edit the save file and then replace it back to the PS5 or PS4 version of the game on the PS5.
But how do you upload the data from the usb flash drive to the ps5 console??? Because I'm trying to upload my save game data to my son ps5

anyone trying to back up saved data from a suspended account it wont work. Reason? You need to be connected to PSN, well being suspended means you've lost the privilege of going on PSN. That is 100% asinine and counter-productive
Its not possible to transfer save data to another account on ps5. End of story.
Does the PS5 system backup copy all users saved data or just the saved data of the account you're logged in?

Question. When doing a ps5 backup to external hard drive does it also save ur ps4 game data used on the ps5 as well? I have ps4 data on the mss2 i installed in the extra port and ps5 data on its internal hard drive

Because they want us to pay for ps plus, or in my case pay for an additional sub so I can set my kid up with their save files on their new console…what scammers Sony are, this should be reported on and they should be blasted for their anti consumer set up with all this. While trying to download my Skyrim Anniversary Edition to my USB-A drive I ran into a problem. The only two games appearing in the menu are Castle Crashers and Mortal Kombat 11.
The only thing I can think of why this is happening is because the Skyrim Anniversary Edition purchased on the PS5 is considered a PS5 game. Even though Skyrim is the most well known game to release a decade ago on Xbox 360 and PS3.

I just got a ps5 and noticed 2 problems that the ps4 does not have. Ps5 has no web browser, not a huge deal but it was nice on ps4 to be able to look something up without turning on my computer or finding my phone to do so while gaming. Other bigger problem is this. They are my games and my saves so I should have freedom to put them on a USB. Reminds me of apple business model. I wont buy apple because of this same sort of practice.

I forgot I have start a new file on Leon I was like oh fudge. I tried to delete Leon's file and see if I can play 2nd run on claire but I couldn't. I was like oh darn. Now I have to start both games over. ugh.

This method doesn't really make sense, big red flag for the new gen of consoles (On XBox it's the same), I remember having done the 3 endings of Bloodborne with just one save on my PS4, now it would be almost impossible.

This is not COPYING anything. Essentially, it's taking one pizza roll outta the bag, putting it on a plate, then dumping the rest of the bag in the garbage, and then moving that one pizza roll back to the bag. After all that, what do you have? A big empty bag with one pizza roll and an empty plate.

like the video suggested, you CAN export your save files to a USB, but the way the PS5 system works suggests that it's ultimately unnecessary. here's why:
- Save data backup on PS5 relies on the player to have a PS+ subscription (it's a greedy marketing thing). By having a playstation plus subscription, save data backup is automatic. You will never have to worry about your cloud save files unless the entire Sony server network burn down simultaneously, or something happens to your console that requires to pull data from the cloud.
- Unlike PS4, save data on PS5 is not meant to be freely exported and imported. Online backup exists for extreme situations like if for some reason you need to restart your PS5 from scratch.

It sucks. I have so much hours put into Returnal and nearly unlocked everything. I would hate to lose all that data if my ps5 stopped working so I will have to get the subscription to save the game to the cloud. Such a shitty move from Sony to remove the ability to copy saves to usb.
The way they make you dependent on cloud storage and being online is how they can force mandatory updates that can change how your consoles works or looks and effect the performance in negative ways especially when they are launching a next gen console and want to push you to upgrade. I miss the ps3 and 360 era. Especially with my 360 I have all my game saves on a usb so if I need to get another 360 I can still continue my game play. The same goes for my ps3 saved data which most of my ps3 saves like last of us can still work on another ps3.
With the current gen you’re at the mercy of Sony and Microsoft. They hold the preservation of your hours of gameplay data saves in the palm of their hands and hold us to ransom.
if you have a Russian account like mine you can't even get access to PlayStation store because it was deleted for us (thanks to discrimination) so there's no way to save game data even if you want to pay for it. this would be the only way in my case. Thanks Sony 👍🏻✨
