Several, several, several years ago, a friend Josh White Jr after he had finished playing at The Raven in Southfield MI, invited us to hang out at a downriver club near Garden City [?] . Eventually , on stage performing was Richie Havens playing absolutely into the stratosphere, non stop, for nearly an hour. At a few tables away, was Jose, very well known for having performed a very creative version of The Star Spangled Banner, at a Detroit Tigers game a few years earlier W S and , of course Light My Fire [The Doors]. Yep, it THE Jose, Feliciano that is. And yep, got his autograph. A most memorable night in my music fan life. Into the Musec, with Richie Havens, Jose Feliciano, and JWJ, doesn't get any better.
I was so fortunate to see Richie Havens live in concert in Morro Bay... Central Coast, Ca. Doing this song. Can't remember the year exactly. Early 2000's. But can't forget how amazing je sounded ❤
Richie opened the Woodstock music and arts festival back in August 1969. He was not scheduled to open the show but he did since all the other performers were stuck in traffic. Richie said he played every song he knew that day, including this one
@@stephengaydos4346 I swear I read that they had a riff they had been jamming on for awhile and they decided to open up with it as a way to get their sound levels right. Havens then went on to ad-lib the lyrics and made this fantastic tune.
@@stephengaydos4346 Freedom was his last song all songs he knew allready done he played extermy long set because he was with his band 1st whole band ready and nobody else yet ready ! Freedom was his last song at Woodstock and he made it straight from the feeling like Calypso players they play and sang what they see and hear sometimes pure impro!! But sure enough that song came out and it also came a big hit!! Made straight in front of half of million people!! That's why he was mr.phenom.
