The Big Rig and the Viking Weasley....contenders for the Wagtail award! Great game and awesome to see Lance "rolling back the years"...a season off "in the wildernes" has done him good!!!!🍺
Another good game to watch. You are right about both Max and Will - when they finally settle into their strengths they will both be pretty dominant. That 'unknown' bowler you picked up seemed pretty denet as well - very casual about it all :)
That catch by Greg! Really good to keep looking for the ball after the initial drop and to be able to get it at the second attempt! It's a shame about the result, but, another brilliant game! Plenty of positives to take away from the game.
The one thing I have noticed over the last 2-3 seasons is how much easier batting appears to be after about 25 overs, especially at the Old Sawmill where the majority of footage is filmed. I think the key could be to hold a couple of better batsmen back so they can take advantage. So often I see an opposition player batting 6 or 7 being the difference and Tyler definitely benefited last season when he dropped down to 6.
Interesting point - it may be more about our batsmen and their differing styles. Also, the pre/post 25 overs thing is also related to match situation and early season damp weather.
A great game and a really good fighting performance from the 2s. Max Nilsson impresses me every time I see him play. The bowler that took the wicket of Owen Rees was a shocker. He threw every ball in a way that would impress Eric Bristow. Why he wasn't called I find perplexing.
The thing is, its pretty hard to actually call someone without being accused of bias, racism, causing a massive furore, ruining everyone's Saturday, much easier to let it slide even if you suspect it,
@@meshuganater I don't consider myself biased or racist, but I do have eyes in my head. Letting it slide legitimises throwing, and as for a ruined Saturday...yours would if you'd be given out to a javelin thrower! That point aside, I'll reiterate that it was a great game of cricket to watch Dan's highlights of. @@neilsimpson8746 you see it all the time especially in leagues when theres no panel umpires and if the batting team umpire calls it you will get in an almighty row but as far as im concerened its not in the spirit of cricket and should not be bowling
I agree with this - and don’t forget these umpires are volunteers and not provided by the league. Also, it’s relatively low level cricket and the guy was gaining no advantage whether throwing or not.
Great to see Max improving year on year looked very good for his 22, played nice and straight, let's also hope Josh s selection trials go well, it helps having the cricketing oracle Rushfilth to call on with his years of experience and knowledge .
Cracking match. Pushed it the way. Solid tail batting. Oldwhitgiftians bowled well. Not seen stumps cartwheel in ages! Or I’m not watching enough league cricket videos to justify saying that. lol.
Always good those close games. I thought Max and the big rig would prevail but not to be. Suspect action that portly spinner, the one who got the big rig out.
A good effort to get close, considering their opening bat and opening bowler both looked to be playing out of their league. Their wicket-taking bowler was chucking but didn't look to be getting any pace or spin advantage from it. And I think Del won the 'Umpire of the Match' award.
Interesting Barnet on one of the oppo bowlers and Colin Meckiff made a handy return to cricket as well for their side. Slapsie Maxie Stokes! He’ll be a 1’s legend by the end of his playing days.
With the left arm seam and useful batting down the order, (besides the glorious locks) Max is definitely worthy of the nickname The Sanderstead Sidebottom
Aggh so close. Watching the videos over the years, the young gent Max I thought would be foremostly a bowler but his batting has come on so much, gets himself in position early and has so much time. Always think the best players seem to have more time. On a side note of interest to very probably nobody but me, my Uncle Maurice Foley was an MP for many years before he eloped and became Deputy Director-General for Development, Commission of the European Communities. I am from my very being, in support of all Foley's. :) Ps, rarined off here in Norfolk - AGAIN. Hey ho, next week....
Dan, you have some good talent coming through the bowling from the youngsters, Max looks like he is maturing into a fine cricketer and he is playing some classy shots although it looks like he has the tendency for his head to fall away on some shots detracting from his timing. Caleb's is also a good pickup; his bowling is steady but he will have to use his feet when batting if he wants to hang around at the crease. That 37th over bowler for the visitors has a very 'suspect' action! That catch should feature in the catch of the season competition.
How many times did you change keepers...??? ....and bad luck chaps....but played in the correct manner even putting up with some Javelin thrower .....lovely stuff again Dan....
I play for shillingstonr cricket club in dorset ,we play div 3 ,we had khumar sangakar batting no 5 for us was amazing ,he's playing again this Sat I watch all your highlights for past few season very entertaining and you comentate very well
Really rated Max over the last couple of seasons, soon to be regular first teamer I think. Good effort against a couple of sharp good bowlers that looked they should be at a better standard
They bowled really well and it was a great effort to get close. That said, we should have bowled them out for 140/150 and won the more traditional way. Cricket - what a game!
Love the cricket i play up north in the bradford league love your videos please can i have a shout out phil from bradford our team will come down for the day and have a friendly both teams put some money in the club what ya think
Love The Chairman's bowling action. Little slower than when played together for Hamsey Green CC. He does look a bit Big Rig-ish... Watch your channel, all the time. Big fan of the Sunday games.
Max Nelson has a furture with the bat and ball get that lad batting more and more maybe a bit to whippy of the legs with straight balls try geting him to play straight to those and he should correct that risk. Still not bad from both teams on a slow outfield.
The bowler who took Owen's wicket with the most suspicious action I've ever seen. Some poor bowling cost Sanderstead tbh, combined with a bloke (their batter) who seemed far too good for 2nd XI cricket.
Agree our rather loose bowling at the start gave them a few too many runs. They were a weak batting side relying on a couple of hitters at the top of the order - shouldn’t get more than 120 in normal circumstances
2 signs of a villager catching....1) Taking catch then just dropping at feet and walking off to celebrate instead of throwing to the umpire... 2) Taking catch then tossing it up to catch again before rolling past the umpire
Works for Aston Villa, lives in Birmingham, plays cricket for Filongley in Warwickshire league. He comes back for the occasional game - see the game last week vs Farningham, he played in that.
Hope the young Whitgiftian keeper stays in the game. You've got to enjoy your environment and I'm sorry but he would have little in common with his teammates. For various reasons but one glaring aspect. It's changing the culture of club cricket in the original home nations of the game, and again I'm sorry but it's for the worse. Great video as always Dan, you have such a natural feel for commentary. Sod’s Law though that the 1s win when you are not there!

Indeed - at 7 down I thought we were toast! Great team spirit and determination to get us so close. Dodgy action or not- made no difference.
Good to see The Man Dan Udall making a return this weekend and also playing for the 2nds and 3rds!!! At the same time!
😂😂 good spot!
Caleb briliant bowling. looks like hes got some pace and a good length, just beating batsmen with perfect line and length.
Agreed - first time seeing him, he bowled a very good line and length.
A good effort to get close, considering their opening bat and opening bowler both looked to be playing out of their league.
Their wicket-taking bowler was chucking but didn't look to be getting any pace or spin advantage from it. And I think Del won the 'Umpire of the Match' award.
Unlucky boys, great fightback. Thought Max and The Rig were going to see us home. Great game
Yes - that bit of extra tension came from nowhere. Max also shared in a 38 run last stand to win the first match of the season.

Bowler chucks it
Probably, but makes no difference
Steady man of the match performance from their umpire, picked up some good poles
😂
Also, presuming the ball kept on plugging due to the amount of rain you've had down there? The outfield looked relatively cut short?
We’re cutting the outfield at 17mm so whilst it will run faster it’ll also help with the reduction of player injury
Lots of rain causes the plugging. It’ll harden up soon then it will be a different ballgame altogether
Super game Dan - Max and Owen took it close. The chucker gets 4! Good to hear 1st XI won, scorecard sometime?
