I agree with the comments that I liked that it was subtle. Only because it really is a non-issue. Loved how it was portrayed because that’s real life. Loved the movie.
I went to see the movie with my partner and I remember the movie was about half over and I leaned over, right before Carnaval del Barrio and I whispered to her "they're totally together, right?" and I loved how it was such a non-issue, like they were together, but they weren't the subject of gossip at the salon, they were just a couple and everyone was chill with it.
rewatching the movie knowing they're a couple made the experience so much exciting and sweet to me. because you see all the subtle affection and moments between them. :)
Omg I gotta watch the movie again lol I’m so slow. I didn’t know they were a couple this whole time in the movie lol 🤦🏿♀️ but I’m glad they didn’t make it a big issue as well!
I didn’t peep either, I just assumed they were related bc they were so close and in the opening number they woke up in the same bed. Love that they’re a couple tho, just makes it better imo 😂😂
If you watch the 8 minutes released of the movie here on UA-cam you see I'm the beginning when they wake up(in the same bed) Carla kisses Dani on the cheek and then Carla drags her up! I loved it
they kiss in the first minute 💀💀 if you watch carefully carla gets jealous everytime someone flirts with daniella it’s adorable. they’re always dancing and flirting i love it
OMG! Since the first time I saw the Movie I started to wonder if they were together and then I realized that they were shown sharing a bed in the opening number and now watching this video I get confirmation haha, at first it was a little confusing cuz of the way they were portrayed originally but I think it's a nice change 😄
I didn’t even know they were a couple 😭😭😭😭 I missed the first 15 minutes so maybe them getting out of bed together would’ve been a little hint at it lol
@@Izzy-g7t I should clarify when I saw this on Broadway I assumed they were mother and daughter so watching the movie I didn’t really look that closely at their relationship.
@@Izzy-g7t actually I always assumed they had a mother daughter relationship (just not related) because of carla kind of being under dani’s wing but in terms of the scene with them in bed I didn’t put together that it was even them until after the movie so I was so confused during caraval😭😭😭😭
it definitely showed... youre being picky lesbians need as much representation as we can get just cause you dont see it doesnt mean it isnt special for other people
@@gingahsnixx okay, i see where you’re going with this, but pls don’t just say “lesbian need as much representation as possible”. Bad representation can be more harmful than no representation(example, feminist Hollywood), and honestly, I find “representation” like this to be incredibly lazy. It’s one thing to throw in a couple of characters and call them gay to try to fulfill a quota. It’s a completely different thing to actually put effort in “representing” those in the audience. This was the lazy way, and honestly I can’t respect it. Then again, the point of this movie wasn’t for LGBT representation, so it’s not a problem in general. Just pls don’t pull for any coverage at all, as that’s how movie makers get lazy and frustrate audiences that are already against us in the first place.
I think personally for me, and also respecting everyone else's point of view. The subtleness of it was too much in my opinion. I've had friends who sleep with their moms because of lack of space, so the opening scene for me was like "wow, they live in tiny spaces" gotcha. And thought they were mom and daughter. I also feel the age gap was big again, mom and daughter. The two characters were just different honestly and I personally didn't feel a queer connection honestly. IF a lot of us as Queer people are doubtful about their relationship, I think they did a half-butt job delivering for us. JUST my personal opinion.
i totally thought they were mom and daughter or other aunt/niece type of dynamic too until carla called daniela mi amor, i think there were all good intentions but i totally categorized carla in a older-cousin-than-usnavi generational level and not in an aunt level
well- you dn't want them showing it in every scene they're in right? I like the subtleness, it shows that lesbians are not pushing their sexualities onto people and showing their relationship all the time, it's really realistic.
@@gravegutz yeah, exactly, it shows that it’s not a big thing, not different than a straight couple. I love that it was subtle, because let’s face it, at least for me, as a lesbian, all I want is for the community to be portrayed with normality, cause it’s what it is, it’s normal

i agree
They called each other "mi amor" very often during the movie too :'3

@Cesar made her what ?
It’s “squint” but I also heard what you heard the first time, had to pause and laughed
“Mi amor, cálmate. What would Jesus do?”

Thanks for watching!
I am from Panamá and I love the fact that that Daphne is using a Tembleque in her hair which is a part of our tradition and national custom
No lo había notado! gracias por mencionarlo :p
agreed
Lol I remember seeing them in the same bed at the beginning of the movie and thinking “are they dating”
Yes Stephanie I agree. They are just a couple and loved and welcomed in the community.
They are both so fun in the movie. Love. Love, love this movie. Saw bunch of times. Oscars all around.
I can't believe this is real you can't know how much I've been waiting for this
NO NO BECAUSE I KNEW THEY WERE A COUPLE BUT MY MOM DIDNT BELIVE ME
You can show her this interview now to prove it, lol!
Same here! My mom thought they were mother/daughter
i love them so much
John being the inclusivity and creativity master 🙌🥲
I’ve watched it like 4 5 or 6 times already
I knew it!!! Whoo!! I was already shipping them, but i'm so stoked they were cannonically queer! 🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈

Am I the only one noticed Daniela slap Carla's ass in Carnaval Del Barrio?
Hahaa omg I noticed that too! Maybe cuz I'm bi and always hone in on queer relationships bc I am thirsty for them lol
@@flamingarbre1284I do that too. I like movies, but I like them better if there queer lol from a lesbian
I KNEW IT DANI AND CARLA ARE GAY WOOOO REPRESENTATION
Daphnae Rubin Vega con su tembleque😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️ hermosa, representing🇵🇦💕
I felt that they were a thing in the movie but wasn't really sure of it

Yeah I assumed like big sister/aunt relationship and all they could afford was the one bed.
i've watched this movie 3 times and i only realized today that they were gay
Many people missed this including me they only really showed it in the opening scene
Im not sure if anyone else knows this, but Stephanie Beatriz is legally blind.
