The best review of Haunted Bookshop I've ever seen. The flavor you're having trouble with comes and goes through out the bowl and is absolutely the best.
That would be the highest praise Brad can actually get for this specific review, simply because when i hear Haunted bookshop i picture your Friday Savinelli on the tin.
You nailed it Mr. Baioumy!
Matches860 Hey there John. Make sure to step by in a week when he will do a full review. This guy has some crazy sensitive tastebuds and nose. Sometimes i smoked a bowl of the bacy he reviewed after watching and thought damn how did he fiddle that flavours out. Some tiny nuances that i didn't manage to detect smoking the same weed for years and years.
Have a good one.
Yeah, I'll be on the look-out!
I love it so much that Matches860 is the first comment on here. His name is synonymous with this blend.
Bradley, awesome review.
who is rewatching in memory of Matches?
Eight six zeeeroo
I am!
Day old croissant
Thanks!
I appreciate that you popped the top for initial reactions and moisture content. Thank you sir!
Nice review. Keep the tin opening - adds to the authenticity of a First Smoke.
I really like the ‘first impression’ videos and then the regular review a week later. Keep the tin opening in also.
I really enjoy your knowledge on all the subjects you talk about
For these types of blends I typically tend to pack them tighter so I can taste them for exactly the reason you mentioned as these tend to burn hot. The flavor comes out better. As for your burley description, I agree with you. The way I describe the cigarette burley vs tobacco burley is that the latter tastes and smells artesanal. This blend is not in my rotation but I open it now and then. I had mine in my cellar for 1 year. And the profile is better than I remembered.
I waffled on this blend, then I watched Corn Cob Piper's review and he kind of educated me on the blend. Gave it the olde college try again and started liking it a bit more. Now, I think you've nailed it for me. I'm enjoying it far more, weird how that worked out for me.
Thanks for the first impressions, keep them coming.
I love these first smoke videos!
The stage between Goldilocks and fossilized Mastodon is "British humour" : ) Great video as always
Each day, for me, begins with a bowl of Haunted Book Shop, second bowl is Old Joe Krantz. third bowl is Big n Burley and of course I love the Elizabethan by Dunhill and finally Royal Yacht. Please enjoy the HBS. Buy it by the pound and save.
God bless
Jim
I just tried it today and wowwwww!!!!! As a long time cigarrete and cigar smoker this knocked me off the bar stool😂😂😂😂 I should have took Matches 860s warning. I puffed on it super hard right off the start because I loved the taste but the nicotine say hey where do you think your going buddy 😆 I had to put the Pipe down now im just admiring it.
Great vid Bradley. Congrats. Thanks a lot.
i buy a pkg of chalk, snap a stick in half, soak in water like you'd do with a humidor coin. i put these in my daily carry pouch to keep it from getting too dry. it works when you get a tin of dry blends as well.
Good first impression Bradley. According to Jeremy at C&D, this blend is dry intentionally, and should be sipped. I get the most flavor by smoking very slowly. OJK was too strong for me, but I like HB. 😊
Haunted Bookshop is my favorite now, replacing MM965 in my top slot.
Now you'll have to read the book by Christopher Morley, of which the blend is named after.
It's a great book
great combo
I buy this stuff by the pound. Indeed it is lovely this time of year. C&D’s Shandygaff might also be to your liking. Well balanced Burley and Perique with salt and ginger notes. It is another tobacco I buy by the pound. Looking forward to your full review.
Great first impression I love every c&d's burley blends I've had. That cigar like taste would be the dark burley
Me too! As I’m in England I have to organise and import my selections in to keep my rotation going but I love C and D blends . The satisfaction in a morning when I sit down with whatever it may be and have a coffee with a great tobacco is immeasurable. I love haunted bookshop and old joe krantz red at the moment but I’ve never had a bad C and D blend. It’s worth the hassle and taxes and waiting for my deliveries to arrive each order!
It has some of the cube cut in it which has Dark Burley. That's where some of the fermented, cigar, earthy taste comes from. This one is very nutty and goes well with coffee. I can smoke this one any time, but is best at this time of year right now. But most pipe tobaccos, with the possible exception of straight Virginia, is best in the Autumn. I love this one
Just from watching, I'm now curious about this blend.
Quite surprised to see you were as positive about this blend as you are. I am curious to see if your opinion changes...
My first 2oz of HB will arrive around friday...can't wait to puff it...gotta love those strong in Burley blends! Thanks for sharing your impressions, made me even more excited!
Greets from Germany
my first smoke every morning - I totally like it - usually followed by Old Joe Krantz and / or Big & Burley
thanks for your video's - take care and God bless
Jim
i have a recommendation for you Bradley. want to explore Burleys? my favorite: the infamous 5bros. and it would be an excuse to take out the cob and the straw hat... yee hah! lol cheers!
Great review....will wait for your full review...but you have my interest peaked thanks for the great review
Cigar like flavor. Now I’ll have to get a tin to try!
Always love your videos my friend!!
Haunted Bookshop is one of my favorites, my only wish is it had a little more nicotine kick to it, but there is always a balance between flavor and strength, so I think it strikes a good balance for an all day smoke.
Great review! Really looking forward to trying this one... (on a Friday Savinelli maybe? ;P) Cheers! Héctor
Well now I have to try some Haunted Bookshop. Smoking some Cult Conspiracy while I watch. I’d love to see some reviews on Tsuge tobaccos.
Cult Conspiracy is my favorite. Peterson Irish Oak (Cast) second.
“Perish, foul creatures! I am Siegmeyer of Catarina, and you shall feel my wrath!”
Tried HB twice. The second was better than the first, but I'm still up in the air w/it. It is different & does burn hot and I think my greatest weakness is going to hot & heavy. I must learn to slow down. I have it in bulk.
Fossilized Mastodon? There is a metal band name if I ever heard one.
Fossilized Mastodon, CALLED IT!
That's just what mastodon will be called when they reach an advanced age.
I would suggest mummy dust for dryness
great review.
Excellent! One of my very faves!
Hits me with peppery spicy-ness (spicy tongue bite versus temperature tongue bite) that I don’t always enjoy, but otherwise a great blend!
You and I are on the same page with the spicy tongue bite
I've been interested in trying this blend, but i'm finding it hard to put down "scotty's butternut burley".
old joe krantz and haunted bookshop are my go to's,but i have to tell you, they can bite!..i love the taste but sometimes i feel i'm smoking them for the nic!!i'm glad we have so many choices in blends to smoke...it never ends!
I know this is an older video, but I just picked up an ounce of it to give it a try.
Great review (of course). I'm a convert. Started out not liking it, but now it's a daily. I smoke it while I work (phone tech support - shhhhh). I like it way better than Old Joe Krantz, but I do see the similarity. I get "wheaty-ness" and/or "yeasty-ness". It's not so much Frosted Mini Wheats, it's more like Life. 🎷🐯💨
Thx for this first thoughts👍🏽 On an unrelated note you look good with the scruff beard. You could definitely rock either a full stache or a beardstache. Puff on.
Thanks!
Thanks for the video buddy

It is matches860 go to pipe tobacco
RIP. ordered some today in his honor.
"Day Old Croissant" hehe
I like it! tasty and flavors vary.
I think on your scale a day-old croissant would meet the moisture content. I agree it’s a perfect fall blend and it’s very similar to Joe Krantz. Out of the tin I get a fermented smell. It’s almost sour but desirable at the same time. I’m curious what you come up with for that mystery flavor because I pick that up too and can’t define it.
That's it!
Yes. Almost a slight sour milk smell, but not bad.
Whenever I smoke haunted bookshop, I have to take a nap, it has a big nic hit on me.
Pipe tobacco is all user preference but I will tell you this. This blend is for me. I've been through orientals, cavandishes, latakias, english, etc of all kinds, but this blend, being burley stong, dry, with a touch of of perique helped me understand what I want in a mix. I always go back to this, even though I have like 10+ blends on hand and any time. It comes slightly dry. Best from can if you dont want a hot, dry smoke. Focus on draw. Try not to over smoke or overheat. Breathe method works best. Try to heat indirectly with flame. Nice sweetness and grassy, hay flavor if that's what you're into. Be advised that the nicotine draw comes quick. Tamper with care. Love it.
Don't forget "desiccated corpse". :)
“Mummified pharaoh”???
James Urling - That sounds strangely appealing - but then I’m an Egyptologist...
Yup. That's Haunted Bookshop. Burley, dry, and the cut is what I call a "mess". Great tobacco.
I guess typical burley based tobacco is often fine, drier, a bit dusty and nutty in aroma. Kentucky Bird seems like that to me and floral due to those dry petals in it. Still, I love a bit of burley and have learned to sip smoke it. Well I’m gonna order that stuff for Halloween, I figure the Count was a pipe smoker too😉
Sounds like a blend whic I'd like If I had it,something in common with Tabac de Semois?,, Burelys are my favorites and then coms Virgina but not the straight ones but with some condiment leaf in it,wheter its Perique, Orient or preferably Kentucky fired,Greets
I knew you would like it
ONION BROOOOOOOOOOOO
Bravo 👏
This is one of those blends I really didn't like initially- as I tend to feel about most burleys. I let it sit for a long while and went back to it. Now.... I actually really enjoy it. If Matches loves it, it has to be solid, right?
That is a truism.
I like haunted bookshop always have a small amount about the place. It's always dry but I had presumed that was because I bought it loose and it comes all the way from US to uk but maybe not.
I usually but a humidity disc in the bag, what your saying is pretty much exactly how I taste the blend.
Nice vid Will you ever attempt the ps4L challenge and if you do what pipe and blend would you use
I just knew I'd see matches comment on this! Lol
I think it's time to review Mixture #79
Ughh...perish the thought.
I may be wrong but if I remember correctly you seemed to be disinterested with burley blends. Seems that you are coming around!
Hi 😊 I m smoking haunted bookshop cake. It's a little less strong and well balanced
A Dark Souls AND tobacco fan ? Subbed
Dude I love your effing videos
The good side of burley masterblend.
Good video, thank you.
Would you please do a review of Sir Walter Raleigh, Regular?
Great suggestion!
@@stuffandthingsyoutube Thank you, my friend.
I give you a 10
Could this tin have a faulty seal? Didn’t impress me as dry, but once I opened it, it went into a mason jar. I had l little experience with Haunted Bookshop; didn’t like it the first smoke, but enjoyed it in subsequent smokes. Made me think it’s a nice smoke for cooler weather.
Ha! You hit on the cooler weather appeal of this as I watched further.
Great video as always. This was one of the tobaccos that I hated.
Why not use a wood match? Doesn't look like you'd have any problems with wind.
This thing helped me quit cigarette, favorite all-day smoke.
The reason why Virginias suit warm weather is simply that the taste is more subtle, and when your senses are being overloaded by warmth you don't want them too overloaded with taste either.
As time goes by you'll like it more.
Day old Croissant
Nice pipe.
Bradley, my friend, you may have discussed this before, but what non aromatic blend would you recommend as an entry point for an occasional pipe smoker whose limited experience is with cavendish aromatics, e.g. Borkum Riff, lol, and would like to try some non aromatics.
Anybody know of a tobacco with a Sherry topping?
Was it “day old croissant?
Yep! Mental block.
You can blow slowly trough the head of your packed pipe if your bacy is too dry brad. 👍
Kolossal Squid good advice
Pipe&Tobak Hi Janez my friend. Are you back from ireland?
Pipe&Tobak I don't know why but i'll go with C&D briar fox and HU dockworker insted of aged burley flake and old joe krantz. Now that he said it's not so harsh maybe i should give haunted bookshop another try. I liked the complexity a lot but the last third of the bowl was too much burley for me.
Did you ever try briar fox?
I know you like your crumblecakes 😊
Kolossal Squid yes, I have returned a week ago. I have never tried US burley blends. Until now I was buying (and cellaring) only US English and Balkan blends, Virginias and VA/PERs. You will get some Revor plug and Warrior plug soon. Take care my friend, Janez
Pipe&Tobak Sounds good. I'll throw a good sample of briar fox in the english package after christmas janez. It's so nutty and chocolaty mmmhh.
Do you drink your coffee Black?
Nope. A little cream and a tiny pinch of sugar.
Background noises?
Reconosiuor, up n down, how about just dark deep n mysterious, organic earthy and strong with ancient artisan quality's
It's better in bulk. And cheaper
7:30 ish hahahahahahahahaha
Sounds rather unappealing but the name and tin are cool.
Probably smoked it a little too dry
I'm just not a burley smoker. I hate it.
Did not suit my palette. Word association would be ashtray. Seemed dry and ashy to me. Gave it a lot of chances.
I’m going to give it another try. So far it’s not good at all.
This stuff is gag worthy...
I smoke mainly Burley blends. Prince Albert, Sir Walter Raleigh regular, Lane Limited Ready Rubbed. With that said, I smoked cigarettes for 25 years and quit about 7 years ago, I didn't smoke pipes until I was 4 years tobacco free. Burley pipe tobacco (to me) tastes nothing like cigarettes! Nothing! My wife still smokes her Marlboro lights and they freaking STINK!!!!!!
Day-old croissant is in between goldilocks and fossilized mastodon, I think, right?
Haha. Indeed.
dry as a desert bone?
