This was both fascinating and comforting to listen to, my experience was pretty much the same as Emily described - somebody had told me at a crucially impressionable age that I don't 'have the ear' for singing and the shame just became ingrained, so I just discarded the desire to sing for a long time. I would go on to learn guitar and develop my ear really well, but it's taken me now to my very late twenties to ALLOW myself to think 'hey, I do have the ear for it, I love to sing anyway and this probably CAN be learned'. Thanks for this episode, a much needed topic :)
