A good Waylon song is Mama's don't let your Babies grow up to be Cowboys. Kristofferson is a prolific writer and singer. Help me make it through the Night is a good one. He also wrote Sunday Morning coming Down that Cash made a hit. He's also known for Me and Bobbie Mcgee

"Sunday Morning Coming Down" is the greatest morning-after hangover song ever written. Kristofferson desperately wanted Johnny Cash to record it, but he kept getting stonewalled every time he tried to get a demo to him. So, being a former military pilot, he rented a helicopter, landed on Johnny Cash's front lawn, walked up and knocked on the front door, and handed him a cassette tape of the song. The rest is history.

"Highwayman" is a song written by American singer-songwriter Jimmy Webb about a soul with incarnations in four different places in time and history: as a highwayman, a sailor, a construction worker on the Hoover Dam, and finally as a captain of a starship.

Waylon Jennings is widely considered to be one of the pioneers of Outlaw Country. This was so serious in Waylon's life that it actually had him get into some heat with the law, which inspired him to write a song about it called, "Don't You Think This Outlaw Bit's Done Got out of Hand". A true classic, it even inspired Lead Singer James Hatfield of Metallic payed homage to the late Waylon Jennings by making a rocked out cover of this song and performed it live in front of a live audience at a country music event which the crowed loved. I recommend you react to both, but make sure that you react to the original first.

I think, without being completely allegorical, the song is about the human Spirit of Adventure in all of its forms ... the criminal, the dangerous professions, the creators, and those pushing the boundaries of what's possible. And that they will always be with us in some form.

Waylon Jennings was a brilliant singer. He played bass in Buddy Holly's backup band at the Winter Dance Party (after the Cricketts broke up) and was supposed to be on the plane with Buddy Holly, but he gave his seat to the Big Bopper, who was sick. When the plane crashed, Waylon had a lot of survivor's guilt for a long time after that. He was only 19 at the time.

@@Washougalite1Buddy Holly chartered the plane for himself, Tommy Allsup, and Waylon. Tommy and Ritchie tossed a coin to determine who would get to ride. Waylon voluntarily gave his seat to The Big Bopper, who was suffering with the flu. When Holly heard that his band mates had given up their seats, he jokingly told Waylon, "I hope that old bus freezes up!" Jennings replied with, "I hope your plane crashes!" An hour and a half later the plane crashed.

Kris Kristofferson was a Rhodes Scholar and rose to rank of Captain in the Army. He was offered the opportunity to teach literature at West Point but turned it down. He eventually worked jobs like janitor, ect., and became a songwriter. He is an excellent songwriter. He connected with Johnny--who was well known for being very supportive of new artists--and the rest is history. Kris is basically a Rennaissance man--highly multi-talented.

Still love his songs to this day. I’m drawn to his lesser known stuff, like “Epitaph”, “Duvalier’s Dream”, “Magdalene”, “Daddy’s Song”, etc. His album “To the Bone”, hurts to listen to when you watched the disintegration of his marriage to Rita Coolidge.

Actually there are ZERO men buried in Hoover Dam. Not because they were concerned about the morals if recovering the bodies. The engineers were EXTREMELY concerned about the integrity of the concrete. They recovered every body because they didn't want voids in the concrete when the bodies decomposed. PBS did a really good documentary on the building of Hoover dam about 30 years ago.

Great Song ... Google and get the remarkable story behind the four of them
You watched Ricky Valentino, and he died in that plain accident. With Buddy Holly. The day the music died..
Waylon Jennings gave his ticket to board the plain that crashed because Ricky was super sick, pneumonia...
That's Waylon Jennings. He suffered with that survivors guilt for a long time.
Must Google legendary Willie, Waylon, Kris, and Johnny... their lives are incredible, finding one another to become the Legendary Four

Waylon and Willy put out some big hits together in the late 70's. You might remember Kris Kristofferson from the Blade movies where he was Whistler, the old guy that took care of Wesley Snipes "Blade". Also Kris is a famous songwriter. Johnny Cash can stand alone by himself. Basically a song about the never ending list of Bad Asses that formed history.

"The Highwayman" was originally recorded by the late Glen Campbell - who you should check out (his cover of Roy Orbison's "Crying" is amazing). He was friends with all these guys, and when he heard about this group, he gave the song to them. His was not a big hit, theirs was. Glen is also one of the most talented guitarists ever - see his instrumental of the 1812 Overture (Lone Ranger to most). You will not believe your eyes. Thanks for this one.

I disagree, the song is about one person's soul traveling thru different lives via reincarnation. The last verse definitely clarifies that when he says "Perhaps I may become a highwayman again, or I may be a simple drop of rain, but I will remain." Each verse the man dies, but he will remain, and he will be back again, and again, and again. Definitely reincarnation.

"Highway man" is an old English term for a robber who ambushed people on the road.
