Some players just see the game better than most, Poitras is one of those players. Bergeron was one of those players, it allows them to anticipate and play a step or two ahead of most everyone else.
Have literally thought this all year. We lose bergy, then immediately replace that center hole with someone who sees, reads, and plays both side of the game, with some offensive upside and skill. Bruins are truly spoiled/actually have great development programs.
@@lilbiggs4661 I just want to add a little balance here... and please understand I am very excited to see this young man play and develop his game. The Bruins have drafted a number of players-we-hope-can-develop-into-great centers over the last 5-10 years and they have not worked out. Studnika, Forsbaka-Karlsson (I'm sure I misspelled that name) and a couple more if I was more diligent with my research. The Bruins have had a number of misses to go along with the (apparent) gem they have in Poitras.
Once he ads 5-10lbs and improves his shot he'll put up big numbers. Hes already incredibly strong for his size/weight and surprisingly wins a lot of corner/board battles.
this is an excellent video! I have not seen much of your video content before, but it was insightful, tactical and very clear with nice graphics and flow. Really well done, and im glad to see poitras getting some attention for his excellent start to his career
I love that this just showed up in my feed 10 months later, I was stoked on him back then and am stoked on him now that he's back. Nice change from the Sway drama.
I think Datsyuk is a BIG stretch. However, there ARE some similarities in the two players’ playstyle and skills - that’s true. If Poitras develops into “almost Pavel Datsyuk”, that’s fantastic for the Bruins.
Bruins are really good and finding AND rising prospects, they should have gone so many times in rebuild in the last 30 years but they always retool on the fly.
He doesnt do fancy and unnecesary moves, plays like he spent years in the legaue already, simple and effective, I really like this guy , wish him to stay healthy
I’m a Bruins fan, lifelong. Poitras is not a “franchise player” - that’s hyperbole. However, he is showing, at a premature age, that he absolutely can hang with other NHL middle-six forwards. That’s a gigantic win and huge asset for any franchise when selecting a player the 2nd round of a draft.
Poitras had a great first 5 games. I'm happy with his performance, but he's still sooooo young and raw. Both him and Lohrei have been better than i could have expected, but both still need improvement in our defensive zone.
It’s a really good thing that the Bruins have had great success in the 2nd and 3rd rounds of NHL drafts, given how often the team has botched or traded away its 1st round picks. Poitras is a great example of a team identifying a good but less heralded player that is likely to click with his team’s philosophy and X’s-and-O’s schemes
But that is what the Bruins do. They find the hidden gems. And then their system endures while they develop. Sometimes, it's a guy who is underperforming on another team. Look at JVR from the LA Kings. Poitras was a gift, but he was a gift just waiting to be found and polished.
He's very smooth and he's faster than he looks because of that. Bobby Orr was always faster than he looked, and he was smoother than anybody. The kid (Poitras) is also very cool and he will only get better.
While very impressive at 5'11 and 19 years old, I'm a bit surprised he isn't making more dynamic passes (at least not in this video). In the O last year he had 16 goals, 79 assists!
And here I was saying before the 2023 draft thay Boston would have to give this kid up if they wanted to move Hall and to get Ian Mitchell. Glad I'm not negotiating.
he now hasnt produced a point in 5/6 games, I really hope its a quick slump and hes back to his old self. Theres been a couple games where some vets have given him a good 'pop' hit and i hope his confidence hasnt been shaken.
It's almost like a gift from the Hockey Gods after losing Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci.

I'm more looking for that added weight for strength purposes so I don't have to hold my breath every time he gets launched by a check lol.
That would be his background of being an elite box lacrosse player to that helps him in the corners. His brother was 2nd overall in this yrs NLL draft

Really enjoy your analysis. Great job. Definitely going to be a good one for the Bruins..looking forward to Owen Beck doing the same for the Habs.

You flip 54 and you get 45 the pick Bergeron was taken in

I was worriwd at first that i made him medium elite on nhl24 but i think its safe that he is...although maybe push him down to a low elite
Better than me I had him at 76 overall and med top six
it looks like I was severely underestimating him
Kid seems to have elite awareness and playmaking based off those clips. For 19 as well that’s crazy
Does this kid remind anyone else of Bergeron?
Eerily similar minds for the game it feels. He feels like exactly what I would imagine a rookie patrice would look like in 2023.
He is more of a hybrid between bergy and krejci
