    If I have to pinpoint the one thing that got me into Korean Cinema and Dramas in general then it would be Lee Young-Ae. Her drama 'Dae Jang Geum' was shown on television in our country some 15-16 years ago and I would be forever grateful for that.
    I think I read a comment somewhere before watching this film that the Director said that females would find themselves more sympathetic to Lee Young-Ae's character in the film and males obviously to Yoo Ji-Tae's character. I still regret reading comment that before watching the movie. Sometimes I wish I can forget all the memories of watching Korean Cinema over the years and rediscover it all over again.
    I will probably never forget the scene where Lee Young-Ae's character gets a paper cut on her fingers and Yoo Ji-Tae tells her to wave her hands above her head to reduce blood flow. I have done that irl a couple of times and it always brings a smile to my face which makes people think I am weirdo or really dumb. No worries though.
    A beautiful film with such wonderful memories!

      I always feel like I don't see enough Lee Young-ae, maybe I should check out that drama someday. I'm also very curious to hear more reaction from the female audience in regards to what they think of her character in this one. I was thinking that the way her character is portrayed as being very in control of her emotions (for the most part), like we more often see in the man's role bouncing from partner to partner and hurting the woman who has fallen head over heels for him. Pretty interesting reversal here. That's gold about doing the hand thing too, haha. I always mean to try it and for sure will next time I get paper cut. Would be so cool if someone recognized where it came from , but weird eyes are always fun too~ 😂

      @@TheMovieBeat Thanks for the reply. Sorry for being a bit late but your video made me rewatch the movie yesterday and it brought back some good memories with my friends. I was visiting a friend some years back and he had a very big screen TV in his home, maybe 80-90 inches wide. I had this movie on my laptop and always wanted to watch it on a big screen and I started to play it on the TV. My friends were not even remotely interested in Korean films so they were conversing among themselves when that scene came where Lee Young-Ae and Yoo Ji-Tae are having breakfast/lunch in the old lady's inn near the bambo forest. Lee Young-Ae was looking at her rice bowl and my friend said something very similar to what YJT says, like how would she be able to eat all that food by herself just before YJT says it in the movie. It was really funny for me and my friends.
      I guess this movie can be a bittersweet experience for many but somehow I have come to really appreciate it. I only have very fond memories watching this film and it feels really nostalgic watching it again. It holds a really special place for me.
      Finally, the song by Kim Yoon-Ah is very beautiful and probably the only song that I could recite including those in my native language or any other. Time to listen to it again on repeat.

    that's 100 % my kind of movie,
    i rewatched it yesterday to be able to share with you, i saw it when i was a teenager but had a feeling of a "clever" movie.
    Now that i'm older, i understand it as a slice of life with that amazing way of picking moments of routine daylife with her unexpected gifts and "apprentissage" ;
    Huh Jin-ho like many other SK authors must have been influenced by french new vague;
    If you know Eric Rohmer (RIP) "conte de printemps" et "conte d'été", i'd say "one fine spring day" and "christmas in august" are his mirrors through SK culture.
    i hope that you are going to quickly find a job that gives you peace thinking about "better tomorrows" and have your tips and reviews more often.

      I had the same feeling in so many ways! I find it amazing how we can almost measure our growth as a person by seeing films on another level after growing older. I'm not familiar with Eric Rohmer's works but am very happy you bring them to my attention~ 😊

    This is one of those movies I’ve never got around to seeing. It’s been on my radar for years, lol. I’d definitely be interested in a remastered blu ray release. It’s interesting to me that the film has a lot of characteristics of Christmas in August which is a film I absolutely love, so I sure I’d enjoy this one. Thanks Tyler. Loving those goodies!

      I think you'll definitely find a lot to appreciate when you finally see it. If you can find a recent(ish) 1080p version, from what I can see on the Netflix stream it loos very good! But hopefully that blu-ray comes back out or is rereleased too! 🤞

    Can I ask your opinion about why did Eun-su want to catch up with Sang-woo and bring the plant for his grandma?

    • @TheMovieBeat
      @TheMovieBeat  3 роки тому +2

      Hi there! I felt like Eun-su's heart and feelings were very flexible and could change like the wind. When the new guy became boring for her, she missed the comfort of being with Sang-woo and would rather be with him than being alone. Buying the plant for his grandma was a kind gesture and her way of breaking the ice to rekindle what they used to have for maybe another fling (in her eyes). But since Sang-woo knew it would most likely end it disappointment and become hurt again, he chooses not to go down that road with her again.

    Hahahaha this movie feels like it's somewhat simliar to Ditto with the radio romance story line. Ditto wasn't the best movie but I found it to be very lovable. Would you consider this better than Ditto? I'm assuming so. Also Christmas in August by Heo Jin-ho is AMAZING. I absolutely love that movie and consider that a must watch for Korean film fans.

    • @TheMovieBeat

      Ditto didn't actually come to my mind when thinking about this one, although it makes a lot of sense now that you mention it, haha. I'd probably say this is a stronger film than Ditto though, but they offer different experiences overall. The radio and recording stuff is more background here, and while their jobs give the movie a kind of artistic vibe at times, it's not as crucial to the story. This one is definitely more like Christmas in August in a lot of ways, it has all the beauty, sadness, and realism, just showing a different aspect of the human experience & relationships.

      @@TheMovieBeat Ahhh I see! Having loved Christmas in August, I gotta check this one out soon. And omg how good are the goodies for the K-series films? Movie theaters in North America need to step up their game and do stuff like this too!!!

      @@rch456789Yes definitely check it out! And the awesome goodies should be the model for others to follow if they want to keep people excited about visiting theaters. I get even more pumped every time they announce this stuff 🤗

      @@TheMovieBeat Also as soon as Korea drops the quarantine rules for the fully vaxxed people (I'm fully vaxxed now), I'm going to Korea to see all my family and hit up all the art house theaters and cool movie spots you show in your travelogues. Also can't wait to go DVD hunting in Korea. Thanks for all those vids man!
