Hei Karense, thanks a lot for your channel, which helps me a lot to proof my norwegian. The second idiom is the same as in german: "Mir liegt es auf der Zunge"
The 2nd idiom is basically the Norwegian equivalent of the English idiom. I'd tell you what it is, but I can't quite remember what it is. "It's on the tip of my tongue."
Tusen takk jeg bor veldig lenge i Norge og gjekk gjennom flere språk kurser og jeg aldri hørt at noen undervises på det mote. Derfor jeg begynte fra din første opptaket. Super og like til 👍🏻
I know that, in theory, all nouns that are not neuter can take the masculine definite article. But are “common gender” nouns not used most or all of the time in the feminine? Is tunge one of them? Would most people say tunga instead of tungen? How about words like “dame”, “mor”, “kjerring”. Is it better to use the feminine article for some words or it does not matter?
Jeg kan svelge flere kamler samtidig. Derfor takler jeg alle utfordringer som jeg møter. Men å ha det på tunga vanskelig situasjonen saerlig når du er med en venn du vil si noe men plutselig alt forsvinner Takk
Å svelge en kamel - to accept a difficult situation. Could this be used also when someone has died? It's difficult to get over, but I must swallow a camel and move on. Would that work?

As for the second one, we have the same in Arabic. We say "it's on the head (= tip) of my tongue".
You've really inspired me to dig out my "So you want to learn Norwegian books". Thank you. Jeg prover.

this is great - really helpful stuff thanks so much :)
"å svelge en kamel" reminds me of the English idiom "a hard pill to swallow". I think the concept is similar.
(edited)
Yes, I guess! :-)
a hard PILL to swallow
Олеся Тилайте, You're right... I was thinking about pill and wrote pillow... I don't know what got me hahaha

Correction: “Are SOME common gender nouns not regarded as feminine most of the time?”
Takk Karense 💗💗💗💗
Vi bruker en lignende setning på spansk "Lo tengo en la punta de la lengua" (Jeg har det på tungas kant)
HAHAHAHA genial!
Jeg kan svelge flere kamler samtidig. Derfor takler jeg alle utfordringer som jeg møter.
Men å ha det på tunga vanskelig situasjonen saerlig når du er med en venn du vil si noe men plutselig alt forsvinner

På portugisk sier vi "engolir sapo", som betyr "å svelge en frosk" (to swallow a frog) :)
I didn't know it, but my husband said that "Kröte schlucken" (swollow a frog) would also be common in German
Vi sier det samme på ungarsk :-)
it's the same in italian
