  • This is a Motormouth couple car review of the 2024 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid compact SUV.
Enter to win a set of Toyo Celsius II all-wether tires. Enter here.www.toyotires.ca/enter-our-co...
What’s New? The 2024 Hyundai Tucson N Line model is only available with a hybrid powertrain, Hyundai adds more standard safety features like seatbelt reminders for all occupants, rear side airbags, haptic feedback through the steering wheel for lane keep assist and blind spot collision avoidance and a 10.25” touchscreen is standard.
The 2024 Hyundai Tucson hybrid has a 1.6L turbocharged 4-cylinder with a 6-speed automatic transmission, a combined 226 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, standard AWD. With a full tank of gas it gets about 816 km/507 miles of range.
2024 Hyundai Tucson standard features include two dual 10.25” screens, navigation, wired Apple Carplay and Android Auto, cloth and leather upholstery, heated front seats, 8-way power driver’s seat, heated steering wheel, 8-speaker Bose sound system, panoramic sunroof and a hands-free power liftgate.
In the US, some of these features are not standard like the panoramic sunroof, heated steering wheel and the Bose sound system. A wireless charger is standard in the US, not in Canada.
We are driving the 2024 Hyundai Tucson N Line model with N Line exclusive features like N Line 19” wheels, an N Line front bumper, grille, N Line badging, a cloth and leather interior with red accents and red stitching.
Here’s the fuel economy, 6.3L/100 km, 37 MPG city and 6.6L/100 km, 36 MPG highway. This hybrid can tow up to 2,000 pounds
The 2024 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid N Line and Luxury models are $43,248 CAD, Luxury and the Ultimate $46,648 CAD. In the US, Blue $32,325 USD, SEL Convenience $34,905 USD, N Line $36,405 USD and Limited $39,465 USD.

I ordered both the Tucson Hybrid and Sportage HEV. Sportage came in first. Long, good history with Hyundai so it was a change. Can’t go wrong with either but here is my list of things to consider between them. Limited vs. Sx-Prestige.
You don’t get the digital card key and phone key, heated rear seats, leather, or complementary maintenance with Sportage.
You don’t get fog lights, spare tire, LED rear turn signals, LED backup light, or the larger curved screens in the Tucson.
The Sportage gets better mileage due to smaller wheels and a softer ride with the larger sidewall. I do get 38 mpg city usually. Over 10,000 miles in 7 months, I got 35.6 mpg mixed with 80 mph Montana roads not helping.
The synthetic leather on the Kia is really quite good. Honestly better than the Hyundai leather as much as I thought it would not be. Also holding up better with no creasing like I usually get with real leather.
The Kia is cheaper but the complimentary maintenance makes the difference a wash. The Kia connectivity is less costly than the BlueLink once the complimentary period is over. You get three years free with Hyundai, one year from Kia.
There is a small front skid plate available for the Kia. None for the Tucson. Good for those ice chunks on the road and early clearance warning. Not for off roading as it doesn’t cover much.
The ambient lighting in the Tucson is in the door bins and center console and is more of a soft flood light. The Sportage is a light pipe on the passenger side dash and the center console.
The cargo light is LED in the Sportage but not the Tucson.
The gloss black center console in the Sportage can be easily covered with a cover sold on Amazon. Looks near factory. Can’t cover the Tucson.
More storage nooks in the Tucson but the Kia has the cup holders that are retractable for good storage. Can fit a big water bottle or a big sub sandwich if you have no drinks! Not so in the Tucson.
The Tucson has the ultrasonic occupant sensor that presumably supplements the security system.
Finally, two things that nobody points out. The Hyundai has a center airbag between the front seats to prevent head knocking I guess. That isn’t present in the Kia.
The Kia has a nifty dynamic instrument display that syncs with the weather and time so you get sunrises, sunsets, sunny skies, thunderstorms, snow, etc in the dash. Gimmicky but everybody loves it.
Again- can’t go wrong with either. But hopefully this helps if those differences matter to you.

Great info. My wife has the Sportage and I have the Tucson. Only thing I will add is I do believe if you buy a Hyundai brand new from the dealer, you get BlueLink+ which includes Basic and Advanced for the entire time you own the vehicle. The Map and Multimedia OTA update subscription is the only thing that is for 3 years. I believe this was a change for the 24s and up and Ionic 6 and up.

Haha I literally just took delivery on this exact vehicle yesterday! I’m in Puerto Vallarta and only one hybrid version is available- took 6 months to get! Coming off a 2020 Escape Titanium turbo 2.0. The Escape has a few more tech features I will miss: the open sesame tailgate, remote start, auto park, memory seats and keyless entry. They are both fast, but the Tucson’s ride, interior quality and quietness are much better. The volume knob doesn’t bother me as I use the steering wheel control. In Mexico we get a spare tire (yeah!). A neat trick you haven’t mentioned: the 12 volt battery override if your battery dies it will start with the hybrid battery.
We only get a basic 6 speaker stereo but with the quiet cabin it sounds pretty good. Interesting that everything is automatic: no EV-only or Regen brake controls but that’s fine! It all just works in the background. Here the CRV and Escape are $2500-5000 USD more and Toyotas bore me. Today’s my first day driving it so I’ll update this later. Yes we get black cladding.
Now if only they could make more hybrids so they are easier to get and bring us the plug-in! You two are great keep up the good work. And here the Spanish speakers do say Took-son!
Update: the a/c kills mpg from 37 to 30. Try without hvac and you’ll
Get the 37 and more I have actually squeaked out 50! Would like an EV button for max efficiency. This car has a weird thing where if you have the key in your pocket and walk behind the locked car the hatch opens. Every time I go to walk the dogs it’s an issue, so that needs addressing and the dogs set off the rear seat warning so I buckled those seat belts. Overall very happy with my choice.

Purchased a new 2023 Tucson Hybrid Ultimate earlier this year. I do like the look of this new N-Line Hybrid but I'm also happy that my Ultimate has a few extra features like ventilated seats. The Sportage was #1 on our list as we preferred the interior but it just wasn't available when I was in the market. I have averaged 6.3 L/100 km. Best tank was 5.9 and worst was 7.7.

I really like the looks of the Tucson Hybrid and the cutting edge tech that Hyudai/Kia use. In the end, we went with the Toyota Venza for the better gas mileage. We just drove around 1,000 Km (around 600 miles) today on our winter trip down to Orange County, CA and averaged just over 43 mpg (5.38 L/100 Km). Over the 2 years of ownership, we are averaging 5.8 L/100 km (41 mpg). We really love our Venza but a quieter interior is appealing when driving on the highway. Would like to test the Tucson to see the difference in sound.

Low bumper turn signals cant be seen by vehicles following the vehicle directly behind the Tuscon. If you are driving properly, you[re looking ahead and would wnat that extra visibility of what is going on ahead of you. However, here in Florida its a mute point, turn signals arent used!

Looked at the Sportage and Tucson recently and they both appear to be strong value prospects. I feel like I could live with either. I like the nose of the Sportage, the side of the Tucson and the rear of both. I’ll need to look at the interior of the Sportage again to see if I have a preference there. Am I correct in thinking that there is a key difference between the two because the smart park system is not available on the Kia. Is Hyundai offering free scheduled maintenance for the early life of the vehicle?
We drove the ICE engine Tucson before driving the hybrid variant and there was a marked difference in passing power and confidence.
Im not phased at all by the lack of a volume or tuning knob. In my last 4-5 vehicles I’ve used the steering wheel controls to adjust volume and cycle through preset channels. That allows me to focus on the road even more.
Thanks for your review. Once we decided to take a look at some new vehicles I couldn’t wait to hop online and see what you guys have thought about them.

For example last night I did my weekly 80 mile drive and it was 32 degrees out and I was doing about 80 mph - and only got 23 mpg. Other than the fuel economy it's been a great car and I've had no other problems with it.

There is a widespread problem with turn signal / indicator light placement in general, imv, and in this instance I for once courteously disagree with the argument given / scenario mentioned.
(I am only familiar with vehicles available in European markets and should think with some countries, ahem, using red lighting and not the more prominant amber turn lighting here in the UK this makes matters slightly worse from the rear)
Higher placed rear indicators enable vehicles not immediately behind to see beyond the front following car's bodywork, through the glass area or more clearly from the sides that the first vehicle intends to turn off and eventually slow to a stop on a main road. Otherwise traffic following will not expect the second car to slow and stop for no reason. (am I making sense? I'm only driving a keyboard at the moment).
My pet peeve is inboard placement of our amber coloured indicators on many cars, particularly on the front where you have a dipped beam / DRL enabled car ahead approaching yours at a junction and suddenly moving toward the centre line when you may finally notice they had their turn indicator on the whole time as you swerve abreast of them.
Rear inboard indicators are almost equally as bad, and remove the instinctive reactions we've had to indications for many decades.
Of course, this slightly encourages the decline, or inclination not to use indicators at all and the aggressive, dangerous, "you get out of MY way or else ..." attitude that is pervading.
Don't ask me to remember which models are the worst in terms of light

There's no fire Hazards with the current Tucson.
The only recent fire Hazard recalls revolved around a faulty wiring harness for certain tow hitches (I believe the Palisade was effected, not the Tucson)... but mind you, thst was the wiring harness for the tow hitch, which is only something to worry about if you get the tow hitch, and easily fixed if you did.

@@CoolTies You understand the ONLY "fire hazard" was an OPTIONAL post-production tow harness, which isn't even a part of the car itself, optional to add, not required, not standard, most people don't bother, and easily replaced... the odds are incredibly minute of any actual fire, it was a precautionary recall for an after-production tow harness... but of course, any chance you get to make a mountain out of a mole-hill, you'll go for it, right? People like you are just internet trolls looking for something to stir up, because you can't get anything substantial to complain about to back up your pre-conceived prejudice and lack of knowledge...
If you want to do ACTUAL research, why not check out the COUNTLESS professional independent car reviews that all LOVE the Tucson and all agree Hyundai has come a LONG way in reliability and are besting the competition... oh but that wouldn't go along with your pea-brained notion all Hyndai's catch on fire... stupid is stupid, and you just can't be saved from yourself. Hi you two. I bought the Tucson HEV Limited trim in the US for my birthday. The major reason was due to your reviews. Although I’m enjoying it, I am NOT getting the EPA estimate. I read some online Tucson forums that informs me there is a “break in” period of 3,000 miles in which the mpg would get better. Have you or annyone else ever heard of that?

    • @wyw201

Try adjusting your driving style. The less the turbo spools up the higher the mpg. Use regen braking for downhill segments.

I have the 2023 Tucson Hybrid for about a year now... officially its rated 37mpg.
Now, I'm no grandma, and I'm no NASCAR racer, but I am closer to NASCAR than Grandma in my driving style... it all boils down to how fast you accelerate and how often you get the Turbo sucking gas.
For the first 6 months I probably averaged 32mpg, then without changing driving habits it did slowly get to around 34-35mpg, which is what i get now.
If you accelerate slowly I'm sure you can get 37mpg, but I didn't get the Turbo to drive like a grandma.
I have averaged 37mpg or even higher when I baby it, but thats not me... I'm fine with 35mpg, it's more than I'd get with an ICE.
I'd say mileage does improve after break-in... but more like 6 months, not 3.

There is one difference between Tucson and sportage, the awd system. Sportage’s awd is more basic like a rav4 while Tucson’s htrac is a bit more active and aggressive with shifting power around. At least based on reading comparisons about each system.
I rented a 22 regular Tucson. It’s strength is being a jack of most trades and being quite good at all of them. Very efficient use of space and feels huge inside for both people and cargo. And it’s simply pleasant to ride/drive. I only fear the dealers which I’ve heard bad things about fairly often. Lack of interesting color options can be a bit of a bummer. I think it’s white, black, grey, gray, blue, and red.

The Hybrid is a steal. If you do a lot of highway driving, you can get between 35-40 mpg easily. Sure it becomes a low key speed machine with sport mode on, but this is a car that rewards careful acceleration.
It's just a scooch too firm for my tastes. The Santa Fe is better in that regard. Both hybrids are extremely solid options.

The limited quality and the popularity of their product has given dealerships in our area (southern Ontario) free range to up charge and brush off customers at will. When will people realize that these products are not worth the cost they are charging? We are artificially driving up the prices. Anyone actually getting a decent discount for them?
