  • Here I go over identification and habitat of Ganoderma tsugae. Also known as Red Reishi, or Varnish Shelf, this is one of the most magnificent fungi to see in person in the wild..

Thanks for the video! In my back yard, I have a huge reishi growing on an old hemlock stump. It hasn't rotted, even after being there for several years. It just keeps growing! Is this common?

Thank you for watching! I don’t know if that is common, but where I collect them, after they drop all of their spores they will remain in excellent condition until the freeze and thaw cycles of winter damage the cell walls enough to take a toll.

@@RootAndEarth We get some pretty cold winters here in central Ontario Canada. But this beast just keeps on growing! LOL Actually, it's three mushrooms, closely stacked together. Thank you for the reply!

Oh my goodness! I just commented on you phenomenal Turkey Tail video and asked you to id a shelf mushroom. All I had to do was watch 1 more video...🙄 I can't believe that my mushroom id aps haven't been telling me that I've been fonding Reishis... everywhere...that I've left behind. 🙄🥹 I do have 1 really big 1 on a shelf that I brought home because it's so beautiful.....Wondering if I can still tincture or powder it? It's only been sitting there for 2, maybe 3 years. 🙄 TUndor solving my mystery!

Thanks for watching, and I’m glad you got confirmation on your Reishi. As long as there is no mold on it it should still be fine to use although personally I would probably try to get some that is more fresh to use for tea or tinctures.
      Happy hunting!
