I've really been enjoying your surgery updates. You are explaining it well. Hope I don't ever need hip surgery, but if I do, I will be prepared! Hope you are feeling better today.

I’m getting ready to have this same surgery plus an additional step, but I’m curious as to what the injections were. I’ve not been offered any of that post op. I’m in the USA.
My first PT appointment is supposed to be 2 days post OP. Also, I’m having my other hip done 3-4 weeks after the first hip. I’m concerned about recovery and the need of having help at home especially with both hips being done.

Dear Kristen, the first thing I want to tell you is that you've got this and that everything will go smoothly, I know it is scary going into the unknown but for me at least I can tell you that I am today 10 months post op and I an very happy I went through it. There is a high probability I will have to do the other hip at some point in the future but now that I went through it the first time I know I can do it twice. I am not sure if I have understood your question properly, when you say the injections do you mean the surgical incisions or the post op (anticoagulant injection to avoid phlebitis?). I know this is a unsolicited piece of advice so take it or leave it :) but the best thing that you might try to do before getting your surgery is :
if possible have a close family or friend that can stay with you the first 2-3 days post op, to help you or a neighbor you get along with because it is a huge piece of mind to know you can have someone near you if you need something. If it is not possible maybe hire a day nurse for few hours a day (I don't know the price though).
Other thing I would do if I didn't have help would be to meal prep and freeze food as well as stock-up on groceries, books and activities you can do while healing. Last thing that tremendously helped me recover and manage the pain was renting a cryotherapy device (you can ask your surgeon).
I wish you all the best !
      Ellie

Thank you for your response. I’m currently planning my post op. My hope is to have my husband here after one and my daughter after one since I’m having 2 surgeries with 3-4 weeks between. This is my biggest concern as it seems like just as I will start getting some mobility back but before I’m really very good they will operate on my second hip. I’m worried about stairs (as our bedrooms and showers are up stairs), walking, and I’m very concerned that they told me I should be good to drive after 2 weeks😳. I’m not sure about this as I’m not even sure I will be walking that great. I’m overweight and have been trying to delay my surgery in order to get some weight off, but the longer I wait the more severe my pain is becoming. Thanks again for your videos as they have been very informative to me!

@@kristengoodling834 honestly the driving part I didn't feel like driving for 2 months but it always depends on individual healing, I only focused healing, sleeping and managing inflammation, PT and read books. Wish you all the best :)
