Thanks Alan. Had to change a sidelight, and Halfords were unable to assist telling me to go to a garage. Never having done maintenance before, I invested in some plug removal tools, followed your video and success ! I was even more amazed that I was able put everything back together again.
6 years later and your vid is still helping people! I bought a mk5 a few weeks ago and noticed the bulbs were pants so decided to replace them. According to Halfords it's just a couple of bolts and you can make the room without adjusting the bumper! Was tempted to take them up on it and see how long it would take them!
Holy cow. It takes me 3 hours to change 2 bulbs that isane. I have to remove front bumber and this video helps me a lot. Don't forget to put something under the bumper to avoid marks
For my 2014 MKV Mondeo, the key piece of information was the screw behind the wheel arch lining. This was not in the hand book instructions so after lots of huffing & puffing all was revealed in your video. Many thanks Alan.

Mine is a 2017. Thanks for the vid, it helped a lot. However, there is another (twisting) clip that holds the bumper cover in place under the headlamp assembly, so you can’t just pull the bumper away like at 3:05. You have to bend the mudguard and untie that clip. I broke mine, because it’s a twisting one, and I simply pulled away with a screwdriver :) . But you have to release that one or you’ll break the bumper. Thanks again!
Good catch. Alan will obviously have to do a follow up video to address this as I also have a 2017 model. I want to change my bulbs from the standard to night breakers but I'm shit scared to do it now in case I fck something up.
Can you please tell me what kind of lamps this car have. I have the same car...with the same lamps and without led technology. Luckily I bought mine with the Led adaptive headlight option never had to change a bulb 15 plate with 140k well worth the money to upgrade to Led lights.
Good video mate, I’ve changed mine in 10 minutes without taking the car apart 😅. Unscrew a few screws from the top so I would make it loose, and then with a pair of long tongs managed to take it out and change it with a new one🤷🏻♂️
Great video. Thank you for it! However, on my 2017 there is also a 10mm and thumb screw clip that hold the bumper on from the inside. You have to pry away the inner plastic mudguard and stick your hand in and remove them, you can’t s ee them, you need to go by feel. That operation makes the job twice as complicated. No way you can do this in an emergency. How much does a garage quote for this? 2 hours labour?

This one surprised me for a ford Mondeo a popular car seems as bad as the 2004 2005 shape Renault Megane with the strange back end those had annoying to change bulbs. I can change a head light bulb on my Vw Golf in less than 30 seconds I couldn’t imagine having the peel away a bumper for a bulb Good video though this will help a lot of people I’m sure

One warning - on a 2018 Mondeo - it is NOT possible just to pull out the bumper - there is an internal screw locing it in place. This has to be removed first - so beware unless you wnat to seriously damage the painting and bumper.
There should be a regulation to forbid these complicated procedures for a bulb replacement as it's a safety feature. Thanks for the video. And shame on Ford. Considering the fact that a Ford requires new bulbs 3-4 times a year, that stupid design seems to be a huge disrespect of customers.
Great video Alan and i followed your advice on removal just to replace a side light bulb and never again am i doing that. The job took around 2 hours and you end up scratching the top of the headlamp fitting it back in as you have to remove the headlamp completely to get to unclip the side light bulb from its hole. I love the car but for Ford to make replacing a bulb this hard is absolutely stupid. If anymore bulbs blow it's going to garage. I had to remove the bumper on my mk5. Had trouble getting the passenger side to clip back in. spend like an hour trying to get it to clip on. where as the drivers side no issues.
Great video. But… if your car has the headlamp washer jets on the front bumper, remember to pull out the lid and unclip it from the sprayer nozzle before you pull the bumper off to far. The plastic clip that hold the lid to the nozzle is thin and brittle and breaks easily. Ask me how I know that...
Maybe mine is different it's a mark 5 2017 I had to do this job yesterday with a mechanic with 50 years in the trade in his workshop with all the proper equipment we found a lot more work had to be done other than shown in this video wheels had to come off whole inner wheel valance had to come off as there is two more pop up screws in there also in the headlight there are screws under neath which were not shown in video in total it took about 30 to 40 minutes to do so I found the video was a small help but short cutted what had to be done

Be very careful, I have a 17 plate & drivers side wheel arch bumber trim came straight off as per video, however.... passenger side was a nightmare..!!! There was a plastic screw that requires undoing by hand, only access is behind the mud guard within wheel arch. I managed to prise it open with one hand whilst squeezing the other hand in & unscrewed it blind..!! Basically the plastic screw goes through that hole you see in the video when he just yanks it off 🤦♂️ best access would be to remove mud guard in arch too, but such a ball ache doing just as seen in video, let alone adding to it..!!
On the new facelift version which is coming out next year been told Ford have sorted this issue be 2 openings at the top of the headlight for easy access

You do not have to remove the radiator. I pretty sure the engine will not come out from up top. You will need to remove the subframe and remove the engine and gearbox from below. A 2 post ramp would be very useful

And one more thng - beware when removing the bumper, that the headlight washer is jumping out of seating - and reseat before fully remounting the bumper...

Jeez the whole bumper. I remember they said the same thing about the MK2 Renault Megane but the brother had one and managed to chance light bulbs in it without taking the bumper off. Not the easiest but it was possible. Peugeot 207 much easier though to do.
Probably a similar reason they did not have the Ford Sierra in the US. Well they did but it wasn't called the Sierra because of the GMC Sierra. For legal reasons or whatever they were not allowed call it the Sierra.

Ive just ordered new bulbs thinking its gonna be as easy as my old focus where the whole light section came out in seconds. Think il get a refund and stick with my standard ones!!
ironic really. exactly the same trauma to do an x type bulb. the old mondeos had a simple, user friendly 2 part clip, pull em out and remove the light. . . simple. ironically ford now use exactly the same traumatic route that made bulb replacement on an x type a ridiculous nightmare. Bizarrely though, the ford now has a worse and more complicated way to get the light out and the new xf has adopted a simpler 'old mondeo' way to remove the light fitting. Role reversal?? Glad I saw video. have cancelled order for mondeo today!!
A sad testament to poor design, lack of thought and reliance on owners having spare cash so that they can return the car to a garage to do the simplest of tasks like change a bulb!!
Great Video....what a fucking joke that is. My mechanic has tiny hands and he actually can get in behind without the rigmarole. Your average person will not even attempt to do this bumper removal. It's shocking what the designers where thinking complete incompetence.
I just did this and found and a new globe stuck in there- lol previous owner must have dripped it n there- Ford says to completely remove the headlight - so I did that
FFS what a pain in the arse that is, I'm away to have a look at a Mk5 tomorrow as my next taxi. At least on my MK4 10 minutes and the job is done easy. Bloody clean air zone charges eh

it is possible to fit a headlamp bulb without unbolting the bumper but its really fiddly...i find it quicker to just pull the bumper forward lol
@@alan4x I struggled getting my hand in once I'd loosed the bumper, ended up just wiggling the entire headlight out to make it easier!

some of those cars have a plastic clip between the front bumper and the wing so be careful when pulling the bumper away from the wing

Mk4 was easy aswell. The mk5 is absolutely ridiculous
2 screwes and one clip and my mk4 headlight is out. Then unplug the light and the I can easily change bulbs on the bench. I do like my mk4.
Mr.Mister I used to find the Mk4 a bugger, after watching this, I think I'll have to sell my Mk5 if it needs a new bulb 😂

It's too bloody cold to faff about like this in the communal car park (live in a flat) Will have to wait till warmer weather and risk no dipped beam.

ironic really. exactly the same trauma to do an x type bulb. the old mondeos had a simple, user friendly 2 part clip, pull em out and remove the light. . . simple. ironically ford now use exactly the same traumatic route that made bulb replacement on an x type a ridiculous nightmare. Bizarrely though, the ford now has a worse and more complicated way to get the light out and the new xf has adopted a simpler 'old mondeo' way to remove the light fitting. Role reversal?? Glad I saw video. have cancelled order for mondeo today!!
A sad testament to poor design, lack of thought and reliance on owners having spare cash so that they can return the car to a garage to do the simplest of tasks like change a bulb!!

I just did this and found and a new globe stuck in there- lol previous owner must have dripped it n there- Ford says to completely remove the headlight - so I did that
