    I've been seeing the "carriage jam" warning on the LCD screen on mine for weeks now. I just unplugged the power cord, removed all the paper from the load tray, removed and reinstalled the cartridges and opened the rear carriage cover. I saw absolutely no paper stuck in the carriage, but just removed some light dust. I'm not sure why it was showing me the carriage jam warning but now it's gone! thank you HP for this video! I have this exact same printer and it's 12-13 years old and still working great.

    omg! thanks sooo much, was running late for school with a project i needed to print and it jammed on me! so i watched your video, checked all the steps, and all i had to do was move the cartridges!

    OMG, this video made me fixed my printer which it took me a long time to figure it out before watching this video! I just had to move the ink cartridge back and forth freely. -_-. How dumb am I. But, just glad that I can finally fixed the problem.

    Thank you for posting this! I had been having problems for awhile, but the press and hold of the cancel button and the color print button worked like a charm! The hp message explaining what to do is totally useless. Why don't they just give us this info in the first place??

    This was very helpful learned alot! What the problem was in the end was... I BOUGHT A NEW CARTRIDGE # 74 BARCODE IS BLOCKED BY SECURITY STICKER FROM WALGREENS. FEB 2012. I took out the cartridge as she described and found a 1/2 inch thick gooey mountain of black ink in well for the black ink SO. cleaned out the goo with q-tips, put in the old cartridge and the paper jams and cartridge jams stopped. I have a working printer. Definately returning cartridge to Walgreens!

    Also there can be a problem with the ink cartridge in its self which is correctable at home, It has happened to me a couple of times. Once I wiped the ink connection and the bar codes on the cartridge and another time I was out of coloured ink and it showed cartridge jam and nothing else would fix it. so please check how the ink is coming out of the cartridge (too much or two little) as well.

    Verify that there is nothing obstructing the carriage and use a flashlight to look on the right and left side of the printer for paper. If there is nothing in the carriage path and you are still receiving the same error, your printer likely needs some kind of service. You can contact HP to see what the support options are for your printer.

    @Btroisi13 I have the same problem, but I have a C4580. The printer says it has a paper jam. I tried everything this video said and I tried everything in the how to fix the paper jam video. NOTHING WORKED. I looked inside the rollers front and back and nothing. It still gives me that paper jam error. Also like you when I open the cartridge door, the cartridge holders won't move to the far right. And NO there is nothing in its path. It easily moves when I push with my hand. So HELP!!!!

    @rataranian my printer stops halfway sometimes, but if u press cancel, and turn off the printer, and then turn it back on after a while, it always works 4 me

    You'll see this error if the cartridge or printer is faulty, or if the electrical contact between the two is poor. If you haven't already, start by just removing and reinstalling the cartridges. Check for any tape before using the cartridges. If you stil see the error, try cleaning the contacts. If that doesn't work, you'll probably have to replace the cartridge. If you just bought them, try taking them back to the retailer. You can also contact HP for a replacement if still under warranty.

    I have a Photosmart c3100 series. I have tried hard resetting, cleaning rollers, powering on and off, changing settings, could not print a test due to it not picking up paper, and pretty much everything that the websites recommend doing. The rollers inside the printer, the first set are not spinning (the ones that are touching the paper as soon as you put it in the printer). Inside their is the big thick roller which was shown in the video and a smaller one which seems to just hold the paper down. The bigger one is not spinning. Resulting in the paper not being picked up. I do not know why those rollers are not moving but the gears are all fine because when i push it with my finger they move fine. The rollers do grip on to paper and i have cleaned them they are just not spinning. How can i Fix this? thanks for your time. If pictures or a video will help i can try to upload one just let me know.

    Out of curiosity, is there a complete disassembly guide to the C4280 printer somewhere out there? I had to disassemble mine and have this small 1 cm by 1 cm metal square leftover and I am unsure where it went.

      Hello. Did you ever find out where that metal clip went?? I disassembled my unit yesterday to trouble shoot a "phantom" paperjamming issue and that metal clip was loose floating around inside. Can't find where it goes. Any assistance appreciated. Thank you

    I'm getting the carriage jam error message in the OS, but test pages print fine. I'm using a C4280 with Mac 10.9.2.

      Hello iheartbomb,
      Please try a hard reset of the printer, which is Step 6 in the video. The instructions start at the 7:00 minute mark of the video. If you prefer written instructions, please search for C1309787 on HP’s home page or using Google search. The title of the document is “'Carriage Jam' Message Displays on the All-in-One”. The hard reset is Solution six in the document. While the power is unplugged from the printer, please restart your Mac. Once the Mac has finished its restart routine, please plug the printer back in.

      +Jim Dodos I understand the scanned page comes out black, It could be scanner mechanism which has failed and it is a hardware failure, there is no replacement parts/boards available, The printer has to be replaced. However, you may try following the steps from the document in order to fix poor scan quality issue:hp.care/2nqnHCn

    The paper in my C1480 All-in-One printer goes through and then stops when it is sticking out at the top - unprinted. I can't photocopy or print off - after 15 years of perfect working. In fact, I just printed off two pages and now this. And I've just ordered two new cartridges for it, too. Very frustrating. I need the machine for work.

    HP 7520 problem. After fixing a paper jam, I tried using the 'turn off"' button. But alas, the very same button doesn't work to turn the printer back on. Why? How can I get the printer to start up again? --Ric

    my printer has ERRORS all the time that the CARRIAGE IS STUCK AND CANT MOVE. I was told the rollers need to be cleaned but cant find a diagram of the dang printer so I can insure that I can take it apart and put it back together without any troubles..

    There is a black plastic stopper that appears to be connected to a gear and is spring loaded. It is located right behind the color cartridge on the right hand side when the cartridges are located there. That is not allowing the cartridges to move at certain times. It also wont feed paper. Every thing is cleaned and other cartridges were tried. What could be wrong???

      Please search for C01309787 on HP’s home page or using Google search. It is the trouble shooting document for a carriage jam for your printer. There should be no internal parts that should block the carriage’s path.

      justprintingaround Thanks for your reply. There really IS a piece that blocks the path of the carriage. If you bypass the door button and watch with the door open, you can see that at times this part will retract and allow the carriage to move out of the right hand side position, or allow it to enter the right hand side position. At other times, it blocks the carriage. When it traps the carriage in the right hand side position, that's when you get that "machine gun fire" sound.

    My hp3180 prints fine but before each page is printed it sounds like a machine gun then it starts printing the page.

    The WORST printer. Nothing but problems. Paper jam. Cartridge jam. Carriage jam. And there never is or was a paper jam, or carriage jam or cartridge jam. It just says there is and won't work. Since we bought it, we would get a few weeks worth of printing; then a one of the "jam" problems appear. wouldn't work. Then magically a week later, it started working again. Mind you, we don't print very often and always low volume, and this still has all these problems. Total crap.

      Try to do some cleaning where under the ink cartridges are. some times ink spills and dries and makes some moving pieces stiff.

    I tired everything in the video. I have had this printer for over seven years,and have had this on going problem for a few months, though it would come back and work right later on. Today however, it is really seems to have finally et its match.

      justprintingaround I don't use it that much, and it is actually back working again. I have really never found the technical support very helpful. I was also very angry that HP when I was having some computer issues, and needed a certain disc to make the correction, the guy on the other said, we don't have that disc anymore, your computer, a 2007, is obsolete. I have now bought a Apple computer because of your person at HP. And it took for ever to get supposably the right person to speak to.

    Heres how you fix your jam.
    Dont ever buy a hp product worst customer service and even worse products
