- Part two of some vintage United here with that game at Elland Road in 1972 where United tore Southampton apart. The goalscorer's that memorable day...
Allan Clarke (37)
Peter Lorimer (42)
Allan Clarke (60)
Peter Lorimer (64)
Peter Lorimer (68)....hat-trick
Jack Charlton (73)
Mick Jones (78)....his 300th league game for Leeds.
The Team: Sprake, Reaney, Madeley, Bremner, Charlton, Hunter, Lorimer, Clarke, Jones, Giles, E. Gray.
34,275 lucky people saw it.
"Nonchalance!" That word by Barry Davies sums up the great Allan Clarke!
As a Portsmouth fan...I could watch this all day long.
I was a 12 year old watching Southampton reserves at the Dell that day......the grim announcements every time another goal was scored was quite memorable!!
Poetry in motion.
In the same season, Southampton beat Leeds 2-1 at the Dell with goals by Channon and Davies. I was there.
Simply beautiful football by a team that would today make Premier league teams look so out of place inadequate.
Watch and learn from the greatest team ever it's not about how many trophies in the cabinet at the end. These players are the trophies if you don't know this by now your wasting your time and money Thats why we Leeds United supporter's are so loyal to the end .
Lost 9 games in the league, and 4-0 in UEFA cup against Lierse SK. Very far from the greatest team ever.
they lost 9 as they were crippled with injuries at the start of the season. Simple as. Both Clarke and Jones were out for weeks .
That Lorimer was great.
SUPER LEEDS
I think the greatest team this country has ever seen and i have supported Liverpool for 62 years.
I fully agree. In terms of the quality of football they played.
It's hard to comprehend that this was a league game i.e. both teams in the same division.
Leeds lost 9 games in the league that season, including 2-1 v Southampton. They also lost 4-0 to Lierske SK in UEFA cup .
Rumour has it, that Southampton devised a cunning set-up after this game just for Leeds Utd, it was the 1-9-0-1 formation, with Mick prowling like a lone wolf on the centre line.
A pity it did'nt start with goal number one. Switcht it of as soon as i realised it started with goal number three.
England would have won the 1970 and 74 World Cups had Lorimer, Giles, Gray and Bremner been English!
Jones is English won only 3 caps him and Allan Clarke should've speared headed England's attack together from 1970 - 74
Maybe you could say also UK would have won world cups, though Giles would not have been included
@@mizofan Growing up, Giles remarked "I didn't consider myself Irish" quoted in the Irish Times.
Now I've read that there's only three goals shown here, Im off.
I like the muddy pitch.
Would have been good to see ALL the goals as the tital suggest!!!!!
For some reason this is one of 3 videos
Still didn't win the title that year.
Travesty having to play Wolves on the Monday night after winning the FA Cup on the Saturday to win the double a draw would've been sufficient which Leeds would've probably got had the game been Tuesday or Wednesday.
Southampton ... they might as well have stuck eleven cruise ship waiters on the pitch.
