What an amazing strike from JG. Off his left foot. How many genuine two footed players were there in that era? JG was a superb footballer. Every time I watch footage I marvel at his abilities. He pulled the strings from so many positions. I can only liken him in more recent times to Pirlo in Italy or going slightly further back Hagi in Rumania. Both completely controlled the midfield. JG was world class. Period.
The warmth of the applause after Palace's fine goal is not something you'd perhaps associate with Leeds or Yorkshire itself, but they always admired good play in those days.
Was Birch a Yorkshire lad? He played alongside Mick Jonesat the Blades and Revie once showed some interest in him. Moved onto Chelsea where he floundered but recovered at Palace and really hit his stride at Leicester.
Johnny Giles! That's fully 30 yards off his 'wrong foot'. Bloody hell. What a team that was...I started supporting them as a 6 year old watching the 72 FAC Final.
Every part of the team had a top top quality player in that position. For me if they'd got a truly top class keeper they would have dominated even more than they did.
that team really was absolutely amazing so much talant all over the pitch, jealous other supportors nicked named them dirty ...bollocks fact is look at states man utd ,derby, liverpool all had worse records than leeds utd revies 11, never since has a side been so feared by all in the days when football was played by men !
|Leeds didn't look their best here, too many long passes going astray...both goals had an element of luck, for the 1st the ball was headed out to Giles who hit what looked like a hopeful long shot which curled in. 2nd goal was quite scrappy..Lorimer didn't hit it cleanly but it found it's way into the net.
Love the applause you can hear from the home crowd after Palace's very well worked goal.
Really appreciate these videos from the old days, my boyhood days. Thanks a lot winsfordtown !

Born in London but brought up in Nottingham.
With a team that good, they could afford to be generous. Revie once considered signing Birch before settling for Mick Jones.

I was from 5 . Lorimer was my man but a fabulous team .
LOVE *CRYSTAL PALACE*
That was a super goal by Palace. If scored by a bigger club would be more well known. Lovely, patient, Football.

Great first goal
The great Keith Macklin with the mike.
Keith Macklin was Mr Leeds United
I always felt he was a misplaced rugby league man.
Big Jack Charlton.

Absolutely

lads were tired probably , revie had them in 5 matches a week hahaha!
I'm sure Leeds will score
David Harvey was a crap goalkeeper. He was Leeds' Achilles heel during this period.
You obviously do not have a clue about football or leeds united.
She's obviously thinking of Sprake. Now HE could be their Achilles heel on occasions.
You must be mixing him up with Gary Sprake. - accident prone. Harvey was a good keeper
IDIOT, HE WAS A TOP CLASS GOALKEEPER.
This particular Palace goal, he looked at fault for. But otherwise I don't agree as a general statement.
