Really enjoyed this one! I have fond memories of riding the 1963 stock when I was a kid in the 1980's and 1990's going to Bognor.

The class 442s looked so much better in NSE livery than they ever have done since. That could be said for a lot of trains, the NSE livery was superb

Regular user of the station at this time. Miss the old slam doors. Nothing made you feel more grown up (as a 16 year old) as opening the door as you werent quite stopped.

Woking has a nice art-deco signal box. Surbiton also had a similar one but it was demolsihed.

Excellent footage. Shame the audio is only mono. You'd think UA-cam would have a way to correct that.

Yes, they could make a time machine and go back to 1994 and change the sound equipment to stereo.

@@michaelharvey5560 I was referring to the audio only being on the left channel. When something recorded in mono is transferred to a medium with stereo sound, the proper thing to do is put the mono sound on both stereo channels, then it's at least coming out of both speakers.
It would be nice if UA-cam could give the uploader the option to correct that. Or even if they could give the viewer the option to do it, just to make it easier to listen to.
Otherwise it's particularly noticeable if you've got headphones on, and you've got sound in one ear, but not in the other.

@@Jallge You're right, sorry. I have my PC speakers quite close together and didn't notice but I put on headphones and you're right. It is quite annoying now I've become aware of it!

Back when trains had comfortable seats and plenty of leg room. I used to use the southern region a lot back then. I stay away from trains now though, small uncomfortable seats, not leg room, noisy and cold because of the constant air conditioning running, etc, etc. The old HST's are about the only trains i enjoy travelling on these days, long may they live.

British Rail and NSE got their fair share of hate back in the day, but considering the low level of funding compared to other European countries it's nothing short of miraculous what they were able to pull of. Ironically, it's only since privatisation that state subsidies have risen to levels comparable to (or even higher than in) France, Germany, the Netherlands etc.
Mind you, no country spends quite as much on rail as Switzerland and look how well their trains work. Conservatives get tired of hearing this, but yes, some things really are all about extra money/funding.
