Penei in my eyes was the true start of the Brand New Lions. Perfect culture fit, already a lockerroom leader. Guys like he, Hutch, and Saint, these types of guys are how you turn a franchise into a perennial winner. You can't overstate how important these types of dudes are. 💪
Exactly, previous regimes woulda took chase. But Brad got himself his cornerstone tackle instead. The game will forever be won in the trenches. U win up front and everything else falls into place
Nice breakdown on Sewell. I really like watching this guy play. He never gets his feet crossed and is just quick as hell to his spots. Few get through or around him, and I have seen guys shy away from his path downfield. (no shame, I would). The best, though, is when they put him in motion as eligible, which I expect more of this season. As an old Lion fan, you never expected to get players like him.
When watching the game you don’t get to see these things happening focused on so much and the camera angles….. but my goodness when you turn on this man’s tape he’s so fast and strong! As a Bengals fan when we had the chance to take Sewell I was desperate after how atrocious our line was the year Joe blew his knee out. The pick turned into Jamarr Chase so I'm no mad at all. That draft was just loaded.
Come on man, he is the the best OT in the NFL. I guess this video is after the 2022 season, so I guess there was some room for doubt after only two years, but not anymore. Not after his performance in the 2023 season. Excellent video, and very informative commentary.
Penei Sewell is the next Trent Williams. He's a freak athlete. The only thing keeping him from being super Elite right now is his pass pro and taking a few too many penalties, but he's only turning 23 this year. He'll be the best tackle in the NFL before his rookie contract is over.
Let him hang with Lane Johnson for a few months and learn everything he knows. If Sewell becomes like that, the Lions have the best tackle in the game for the next 10 years. What a great building block Sewell is. Good to see the Lions make some noise, I hope they win the NFC North this year.
Baring injury he's gunna be in the hall of fame...damn he's got 8 to 10 more years and he's been getting better every season. Wow! He's a beast and one of the best in the game period regardless of position. Go Lions!
He played left tackle in college but now is playing right tackle. And he opted out of his senior year. So basically he switched tackle positions and only played the past two years. He's going to get better.
They probably made him a right tackle because they feel he maybe too slow to be a left tackle. Left tackle is a more valuable position than right. Rashawn Slater who was in the same draft as him is an elite left tackle, they probably should’ve drafted him instead.
