      I'm sure you will enjoy the fruit, good flavor. Mine is currently in its flowering cycle so I'm hoping it will set a good amount of fruit. Thanks for visiting!

    Thank you for the details. My longan tree has lots of flowers but no fruits yet. Greetings from Suriname, the origin of your Surinam Cherry plant ❤

      Greetings and thank you for visiting the channel! Your longan tree may not be mature enough to hold fruit. Mine just finished its flowering cycle and is starting to develop fruit. It’s still a little too early to tell how many will set, but it appears to have a fair amount developing. I wish you best of luck with yours. The fruit is very tasty and definitely worth the wait.

    I have this tree and agree it is very slow growing. I guess similar to lychee tree. Overall good fruit.

      It definitely is a good fruit tree to have. About the only downside is the slow growth rate. Thank you for visiting!

      That’s unfortunate. They would be a great addition to your garden. I feel the same way about some of the fruit that grows well in your area like the Honeyberries. Last year I bought a couple varieties (Blue Moon and Tundra). They are still alive, but are not doing well. I doubt they will fruit in my area. We’ll see how they do next season. Thank you for visiting!

      @@Zone10aBackyardOrchard I guess it's always tempting to grow unusual plants and fruit that's hard to find in stores. Originally I did want to only focus on food that would grow well without too much fuss in my climate, but a few plants that can't survive our Winters outside have crept in...the temptation was too great😄

    Good job! You don’t use the Kellogg 4-5-4 on the longan? 👍

      Thank you! I've been using organic fertilizers (kelp, compost extracts, seaweed and fish emulsion). I rotate amongst those and the tree seems to do better.

    What are signs of longon tree when it's ready to flowers

    • @Zone10aBackyardOrchard
      @Zone10aBackyardOrchard  4 місяці тому

      I’ve followed the flowering cycle as close as I can with my tree. As best I can tell, assuming the tree is mature enough to set fruit, the flower buds (panicles) began to form after it’s had a flush of new leaves. It’s currently in the processes of pushing out a fair amount of newly forming leaves. I expect by May it will have some panicles and hopefully, by June or July I’ll have a fruit set. If you are in a different growing zone or we have an early/late spring, your fruit may set at a different time, but after a healthy flush of new growth you should see flowering panicles shortly afterwards. Hope this helps and thank you for watching!

      I bought mine from a local nursery (California Tropical Fruit Tree). They are in Vista, CA. You might also try an online nursery if that is not an option for you. Everglades.farm, fastgrowingtrees.com are just a few that should have them. Thank you for visiting!

    What type of soil mix do you use?

    • @Zone10aBackyardOrchard
      @Zone10aBackyardOrchard  Рік тому

      I have compacted soil that is very poor draining. I dug a large planting hole and amended the soil with some cactus soil mix, organic mix, worm castings, sand and a few other elements (all can be found at the big box store). If you search my channel for a video titled “Lychee 1st fruit set (AKA: Litchi or Lichi)” I talk about how I prepped most of planting areas in my backyard. You can also find more info on another video I posted titled “High density planting - ground preparation for Peach, Apricot, Plum, Nectarine and other fruit trees” Thanks for visiting!
