    I believe the SSC designation stands for the multi coating on the lens.

    The struggle to mount an FL lens is real! Canon addressed this with subtle upgrades to the FD mount, including little spring loaded locks and pins inside the chrome ring, plus an additional spring to “push” the chrome ring to a place where the lens won’t fall off. The New FD lenses solve the mounting problems completely by essentially making the entire outer barrel of the lens do the job of the chrome ring while the rearmost inside of the lens (with all the lens-to-body aperture connections) remains stationary. Sounds complicated, but it works well.

    You're showing a slight lack of familiarity with the system. FL's shouldn't be mounted on A series bodies. They press on the aperture indicater linkage. Makes incorrect metering. FD lens are hell for strong mounts. The "new" mount, while ok aren't near as strong. Just saying. Oil on the aperture blades does happen, fortunately it's not difficult to diy. Good shooting my man.

    I have a 50mm fd f1.4 ssc lens which I've had for 45 or 46 years. I used it a lot on my Canon AE-1 Program film camera for a long time. I recently bought an adapter so I can mount the lens on my new Canon DSLR camera body with a EF lens mount. Of course you have to set the aperature manually and focus manually as well, but it's cool being able to use it on my EOS Rebel T7 camera and I've had no mounting or unmounting issues with it.

      eBay or Amazon search "FD to EOS with glass". You need glass in the adapter or else you can't reach infinity focus. Good luck!

    i have a canon A-1, and i found this weird vivatar series 1 70-210 1:3.5 macro focusing lens , but it has a 2x-4 teleconverter on it also, but the tele says "fl-fd" on it and i dunno what adapter to buy to fit that on my new dslr (ef)

    I’ve got a Canon TL QL and I’m curious to know which lenses I can use. I’m new to all this film talk and I have no idea what anything means lol I do know I have a 50mm lens on it now very similar to the 2nd lens you talked about. Which mounting systems can I use or should I look for when trying to buy lenses?

    I prefer the build quality of the FD lenses but the simplicity of the nFD bayonet mount. Been shooting Canon since the 70's...when I'm not shooting film, thankfully the Sony A7R series allows me to shoot my vintage glass with a simple adapter...shame Canon didn't address that issue when they came out with the EF lenses. And with Sony's in-body stabilization, the each vintage lens is now 'stabilized'. I don't know about your conclusion of the FD SSC lenses, particularly the 50/1.4...I bought mine along with an AE-1 body back in the late 70's...the 50/1.4 SSC still performs well, even on my Sony A7R2's 40+ megapixel sensor (and still no signs of any oil). All of my lenses are stored in Pelican cases, so maybe that helps.

    Was there a middle one between the scc and the NFd? I have an fd 50mm 1.4 that has the orange numbers and silver backing but it doesn't say scc on it at all. Just says FD.

    • @dementiagam1ng
      @dementiagam1ng Рік тому

      yeah, he made a mistake. the three generations consist of FL, FD, newFD. first is FL, afterwards is FD, in which SSC is introduced, if stated, and after this it is newFD or NFD. which always uses SSC even when it is not specified

    is there a difference in image quality or look compared to the different versions?

    • @CoutoCameraCompany
      @CoutoCameraCompany  3 роки тому

      Hi Sy! The biggest difference is the coating which started as a monocoating and evolved to Spectra Coating SC and Super Spectra Coated SSC/nFD

    • @ingowalkerling5141
      @ingowalkerling5141 3 роки тому

      Some of the nFD lenses (24mm, 28mm, 35mm) were newly calcuted or introduced the first time (2/24mm , 2/100mm, 2/135mm and the L-lenses from 300mm. The image quality on film is good for all versions.
      The coating depends on the optical construction. You don't need 14+ layers for an 6element -construction.

    • @ingowalkerling5141

      Some of the FL lenses will not fit proberly on FD bayonets, since there is not enough distance between the rear lens plate and the contacts in the camera body.

    • @CoutoCameraCompany
      @CoutoCameraCompany  Рік тому +1

      New FD for compact photography, SSC for videography. This is my opinion. Good luck! (MORE INFO from investment standpoint SSC are CURRENTLY more valuable so if SAME LENS SAME PRICE the SSC is good financial decision).

    Can I mount a canon FL bellows on an EOS body

    • @CoutoCameraCompany
      @CoutoCameraCompany  4 роки тому

      Hi Trent! Since a macro bellows is only for close focus, you can do that using a non-glass FD-EOS adapter. You won't be able to get infinity focus without glass in the adapter. I will reply with a link.

    • @CoutoCameraCompany
      @CoutoCameraCompany  4 роки тому

      Please note the link above is not for my store. I don't sell this particular adapter. Adapting FD-EOS normally requires glass to achieve infinity focus due to the difference in focal flange distance. To better understand what focal flange distance means Google the term and you'll see there's a lot of information on the topic. Thanks for checking out the channel!

    I can’t understand why your channel isn’t getting more views. It certainly isn’t because you aren’t trying. Is it true that FL lenses aren’t very well constructed? I remember reading that somewhere years ago. There do seem to be a lot listed on auction sites that are inoperative.

    do they all mount on the same cameras (canon ae1, canonftb etc)

    • @CoutoCameraCompany
      @CoutoCameraCompany  4 роки тому +2

      Hi Juan! They do, the older bodies (FTb, AE1) don't have auto aperture or program mode, and on the flip side, older FL lenses work on newer bodies like AE-1 Program or A1, but the FL lenses don't have auto aperture slots of the dials. If you are OK with sticking to manual settings only, you'll be able to interchange any FL or FD lens with any of the Canon FL or FD bodies. Thanks for your question and for checking it out! Ben
