One of my favorite moments from the entire show.
Leo & Margaret had a wonderful relationship, even if it wasn’t always obvious.

I love the little nod Leo does, like "Got 'er."
The way Rob Lowe says, "where?", perfect edge to it. He's underrated as a comedic actor.
Is he still underrated after his time on Parks and Rec? I would say he's well rated by now.
The way his eyebrows just sink the tiniest bit. So subtle. So good.
This has one of my favorite scenes-Ainsley’s interview-and one of my favorite underrated CJ lines:
“What the hell made you think I wouldn’t scream where there were people?!”
"Was worth a shot." 🙄
As always Gail's goldfish bowl gives away a plot line - the elephant in the bowl is genius.
The elephant also turns around mid-scene.

I love all the West Wing characters but I have a special place in my heart for Ainsley. She is just so ... funny.
Ainsley was such a good character. They should've had more for her.
They actually probably would have, but she took a lead role in CSI:Miami, which was just better than what The West Wing was offering as a reoccurring role.
You know how well she was received as her character still got name dropped now and again through the end of the last season years later.
@@Wafflinson Aaron Sorkin has often reflected with regret that he could not find a place for Emily Proctor in the cast of The West Wing. That said, she seemed to do OK in CSI:Miami. 😉
This was a great scene and she was a great addition to the show.
“Ainsley, would you like to work at the White House?”
“Oh, only since I was two.”
The quick exchange of dialogue on this show was terrific. I recorded every episode when it aired so I could rewind scenes with CC as many times as needed until I could get everyone’s lines. They talked over each other so much.
Too bad she didn't stay on too long
@@RinJackson they couldn't make her a series regular, because the cast was full. As a result, they lost her to CSI Miami. Sorkin later regretted not pushing to bend the rules in order to keep her on.
“…This White House?” To this day, those are my favorite three words of the entire series!

wonderfully written and acted - pure class
Emily Proctor is gorgeous but good GOD her hair is amazing.
For me its her accent and the way she sounds nervous even when speaking eloquently.
Ainsley Hayes is my favorite character.
Yet again, superlative writing. And yet again, magnificent acting.

Great timing the flow of the dialogue between them was perfect.
That was a classic scene
The irony of Ainsley saying that she doesn't look like other Republicans is something that couldn't have been predicted when this episode aired.
The writing in this scene with Ainsley is fabulous.
I have not watched West Wing in years. The second I saw the title of this clip I knew it was about Ainsley Hayes.

Emily Proctor could not have done a better job in that scene.
West Wing was always classy, but the inclusion of Emily Procter in season 2 made it charming.
This is one of the Sorkin-iest sequences in history.
Sorkin is a genius writer, but not many actors can deliver his lines, and few actors can add to what he has written in the way the West Wing actors did. The actress that played Anslie Hayes was terrific in the role, but when she went to that David Carruso police procedural, and the writing was tepid, she just became another pretty face actress. Quality story lines and writing are rare. This show was a gem.
@@cdjhyoung In her defense, anyone that can make CSI writing sound like it doesn't suck is some sort of hybrid of Hepburn and Olivier created in a mad scientist's lab.
I liked Ainsley the moment she calmed down C.J. It was classy and nice.
Undoubtedly the best West Wing character. Too bad they didn't make her part of the main cast.

Yes he could. He wrote in a way that showed what American politics could be... should be... opposed but working toward the honest-to-dog greater good. Without actually losing what made those sides opposed. Leaders on both sides that actually cared for the country and what they could do for it, what they were trying to do for it. Not what it could put into their pockets. If the reality operated with even half the integrity...

Honestly what more did Rob Lowe want out of this series is beyond me?
Allegedly the show originally was to be centered around Sam Seaborn but Martin Sheen was just too good in his only scene in the pilot so the focus changed to the President. So Rob Lowe became part of the ensemble instead of the Star & he was disappointed. Allegedly.

Ainsley was a fun character. Was rather surprised and disappointed that she disappeared after some episodes. I think Emily Procter got a better gig on CSI.
That’s literally the reason she disappeared. It was because she got an offer for CSI Miami

She thought she’d inadvertently given information about a grand jury to a journalist and she’d broken the law. She thought she was going to prison. Ainsley figured it out and reassured her she hadn’t done anything wrong.

One of the few times I legitimately dislike C.J. She was being arrogant and definitely judging a book by its cover. Being a republican does not make one the bad nor does being a Democrat means your a ggod guy.
C.J. and Sam were both very wrong in this scene and that is why I loved Leo McGarry. He did not let partisan play a role in his decision making.
This is what took the behaviour of the young liberal and democrat persons in this country to the level it is today. Just a sad case of US AGAINST THEM TRIBALISIM and very poor behavior.
Children who were raised with this show have been conditioned to OPPOSE the other party.

Well, John Goodman played a Republican Speaker of the House in a favorable light and Alan Alda's Arnie Vinnick was very positive as a Republican. I do think you have a point, though.
@@timhorn0511 There was also the Republican who absolutely chewed out everyone else for trying to use illegally obtained copy's of Leo's treatment history. His "I will wait for you in the tall grass" rant was pretty epic.
