I was in a similar situation with my now husband before covid and I can agree that it’s worth it 😅 tough but worth it
“Absence makes the heart grow fonder”, but it also provides an opportunity for someone else to step in! I’ve seen many long distance relationships fail. The key is to have a defined plan of eventual long term reconciliation. Otherwise love can dissipate, and one left with the memory of what could of been.
@@michaelpark5681 It really depends on how long you don't see each other. i was lucky that my work send me to Korea every 2 months for at least a month. But when you hear some people not seeing each other for a year... that is something we both would never be able to hold on too.

I’ve been in a long distance relationship for about 14 months now, and I’m moving to live with him in two months. Trust me, this long distance thing it’s not the ideal, but it makes the relationship build up stronger because you have to focus in make it work without the touch. In my case, watching TV shows together helped a lot, and also being 100% clear in how we were feeling all the time. You got this dooby

Plus side to long distance relationships is you really learn to communicate. You're building a relationship based trust and faith. The energy needed to maintain a long distance relationship is not an easy thing to keep up with, but it’s positive energy that will help the relationship grow. You'll find ways to fill in those missing holes that a physical relationship has, but it'll strengthen it even more. It's an obstacle that you have to overcome if it's meant to be. Been in a long distance relationship for almost 3 years now (7 hour time difference), and it's been tough especially during covid. But it has also been the most rewarding relationship where I've been forced to take it slow, learn more about myself and my partner. It also has forced me to learn how to deal with being alone and to find things that make me happy on my own. In the end, I would not change a day. I hope that in the end you find that the struggles have given you more strength rather than taken anything away from you! Love your videos btw, the vibes are so relatable ❤
As others have stated long distance relationships are very difficult. One pro to them is when things do work out you both tend to develop a very healthy level of communication with each other. Personally that is something I value a lot in a relationship. My longest relationship was just shy of 4 years and it was a long distance relationship. She unfortunately passed away a month before we hit 4 years but I genuinely wouldn't be the person I am now without her and it's been 4 years since then.

Sometimes long distance relationships can be really good, because they help you still maintain a sense of personal identity. You also learn to really appreciate that person and their presence, you can really easily see the value they bring into your life. Once you are able to be together all the time again, I think the relationship can be a lot more profound than the average relationship
This is my first time watching a full video from you and seeing you being so raw with your being and emotion is truly refreshing. This is my first time in awhile where I felt so connected with the creator and I thought to myself:" I would love to sit and chill with her and talk about whatever!"

Long Distance isn't easy and it's certainly more work than a normal relationship, but it's worth it when it works out. Every relationship has ups and downs and that's just the way life goes. I wish you and your boyfriend luck, happiness and joy

Your videos have genuinely changed the way I take care of myself. I never thought it was worth my time to cook meals I enjoyed so I'd revert to unhealthy stuff or takeout food, but your vids have made me slow down and treat myself RIGHT lmao. Trying to keep my kitchen clean and use the cooking time to decompress! (Also this recipe was delicious)
I totally felt it when u said"my love language is quality time and physical touch" and that is so me! I was in long distance relationship for almost 3 years and it got so hard for me to stay put.. and eventually it didn't work, but the funny part is we're still great friends(idk what people might think about it but its okay).
Dang. It's really cool to hear not just Dooby's but other people's experiences with long distance. I met my girlfriend in College while she was studying for her masters. She's Chinese and I'm Korean-American. She spoke Korean and I actually thought she was Korean at first lol. When she graduated, it was peak COVID time and Work Visas were on pause. With uncertainty, she decided to move back to China. Because of travel restrictions, we haven't seen each other in about 3 years. Finally, we found a workaround by meeting in Macau, but still in the process of figuring out the logistics and timing since we both work full time.
I love long distance because I really think it makes you focus on the important aspects of a relationship. You struggle and conquer insecurities you may have, you discover how to be open to build trust, and you develop patience for one another in a way that's honestly only possible through horrible wifi video calls that are time limited due to a 12/13 hours time zone difference. I think really amazing relationships can be built on long distance, but there's of course a lot of factors that go into where it heads. We were able to build a strong foundation before entering LD, so I think that was the only reason we were able to get through the biggest, initial hurdles.
may i ask how you guys managed with 3 years...I have to do 3 years of unexpected LDR, and im only in month 4, and it's been tough with the communication. When we're in person it's vastly different as he is not the best at being reliable through text. I've tried many times to lower my expectations but promises just fall through and it triggers my insecurities.
@@AriEllePhilia It definitely wasn't and still isn't easy. I was also HORRIBLE at texting and me and my girlfriend had some adjusting we needed to do in the beginning. The biggest part of how we got through was communication (ironically). We video call every day because 1) The time we get to talk, communicate, or see each other is limited because when I need to work, she's free and when she wakes up I need to go to sleep. 2) Texting is a huge part of Chinese Culture (WeChat). I honestly hate texting and I would rather talk on the phone, but my girlfriend has a lot of affirmation in a relationship with texting. It was the realization that for the LDR to work, there would need to be compromise and humility to give my girlfriend security that led me to actively develop that skillset. My GF shared her insecurities and her perspective, and so of course I wanted to do everything I could to give her security and affirmation. Part of this is also my personal values that had a factor as well. I don't date unless I'm intending on a future with someone in a marriage. I know she's the one I see myself sharing a life together, so I treat the relationship as I would in a marriage. Learning patience, flexibility, support, and communication to build upon a foundation of trust. We're not perfect and there are still times that BOTH of us may share insecurities once in a while, but by sharing with one another, we usually realize it's just in our heads. I do believe a lot of the responsibility falls on the man to understand what the relationship means. He needs to show effort and consideration to show that he cherishes and cares about the relationship. Not even just LDR but even if eventually you get married. You should never stop pursuing your significant other.
In a practical sense, I find sending pictures or videos sharing events that may have happened throughout the day to have helped. Also, I bought us a BOND bracelet (it sends a small vibration just to have another method of communicating to each other). As expensive as shipping is, we send gifts on 1 year anniversaries, birthdays, etc. but gifts aren't too big in our love language so this is just a plus. It's a culmination of a lot of little things and maybe a few big things. The main point is the active pursuit imo.
@@jjashekki thanks Joshua for taking the time to write your input. Unfortunately not all guys are as thoughtful or willing to put initiative like you. Seems like everywhere I go, whether it'd be support groups on reddit or discord, talking to helplines, friends or even my therapist. Everyone comes to the same consensus more or less, but it just doesn't work for my boyfriend. He is just that out of sight out of mind, oblivious. In person we are so much better and it made me feel defeated at the thought of the future. I tried to express what you wrote to me to him, he ended up not saying anything and fell asleep on me. I dont want to throw away 4.5 years of our relationship becaues of a few months into LDR. I am not sure what to do but ill just silently distract myself. I just so badly wish it could be as easy as it is when we are in person, but he just cant do it. Made things worse that he postpones doing activities with me and i accept his excuses and kept lowering my expectations, but idk anymore what is too much to ask for. It's hard not to get envious of what I read on forums and youtube comments,etc. seeing guys put in effort that I know is not too much to ask for but it seems impossible for him to be consistent in. I'm going on a tangent and youtube is probably not the best way to communicate all this, but i do want to thank you for your response.

I’m not a licensed therapist and want to preface that this is all a matter of opinion for me, but you have the right to feel appreciated and should always have a sense of security with your significant other. There are ups and downs of course, but never let time be what dictates your decision and blind you from objectively examining your relationship. Grass is always greener, especially in social media. I found the best advice was not even advice at all, but hearing about other peoples struggles and experience overcoming adversities (lowest points) deepened a better understanding of what to pursue in a partner than looming at the “perfect” relationships. It’s still early on, but at the same time, you know the situation best. Sometimes you’re right for a guy but the guy might not be right for you. But I do wish you guys the best and your boyfriend has a wake up call to cherish what he has; a blessing. A relationship is a precursor to a partnership (marriage). You want to be with someone that you want to grow with, struggle with, laugh with, cry with, and experience every beautiful opportunity life has to offer. So, not in a self conceited way, you deserve the best.

@@sus425 I completely agree. I was in a LDR for a while myself. It honestly breaks my heart that all these people in the comments are lying to Tina about how it's gonna work out and this and that and the other. LDRs work out probably 1% of the time on a good day, and if it does it most likely won't last that long. Way to much effort and sleepless night because of the time difference for something that has less than 1% chance of working out. I wish her good luck either way.
I’ve now been in a long distance relationship for 14 months now and it really never gets easy. However there are some great positives that come out from it and I think that couples who have been in a ldr are more prone to stay together because they value their time together better. I know that every time I see my boyfriend we get closer and closer. In a way it allows both side to grow separately and together which is great because at the end of the day you are able to focus on yourself with knowing that you’re loved and supported! Arguments will happen and they will be worse than irl so communication is key; sometimes over communicating is better than under communicating! I hope your relationship goes well!

I think it actually gets better as both sides adjust to the distance. The distance allows you to focus more on your emotional attachment rather than a mixture of that and physical attachment. It really deepens two people's relationship quickly. I'm sure everything will work out!
My husband and I were in an 8 year LDR, between Singapore and Canada.. I cried everytime we had to leave each other, it never gets easy. My love language was also quality time and physical touch. We found ways to spend quality time online together, and made Mid term plans (not giving ourselves too much pressure, being open about what the future holds). 8 years later, we got married :) he relocated to Singapore and we've been living together for 4 years ever since. Hang in there!

Long distance is really tough, especially was during covid. But me and my boyfriend have pulled through it. However, he and I are still in long distance for work purpose, though we get to see each other every two or three months. He works from home for at least a month to stay close to me. I am blessed to have him in my life. And the awesome part is we are going on our first ever high altitude trek this October. Can't wait to finally see things falling in place as we will be completing 6 years this November. Writing this out really feels like so much happened in the last couple of years.

im a nurse in brooklyn & i met this cute medical student on my unit. i gave them my number & went on a couple dates (lived our greys anatomy dream) and told each other that it wasn't going to be too serious because they were planning to go out of state for their residency and we didnt wanna do LDR.

I was in an LDR for 4 years, it didn’t work out in the end but I’ll never regret the time I spent, and the distance always made the time when you’re physically with them even more special.

It ain't no secret that long distance is hard but in the end that applys to all relationships. My bf and I have been in a long distance relationship for over a year now and I 100% mean it when I say it's been the happiest time of my life. He and I met in discord and it was platonic but months passed and slowly it became something more. He asked "wtf we were" one night and we figured out not only what our relationship really was but what we wanted. I miss him like crazy everday but he's what keeps me going. He and I talk daily and I have all of my trust in him and I believe he's worth the wait no matter how long :)

Long distance is shit with the wrong person but soo worth it with the right one. Learning how to communicate well will prepare your relationship for the better. I met my now-husband in 2010 and it took us 5 years to move together, but knowing we will see each other every summer kept us going! Now we've been living together and married for a few years and still best friends. 👌 Good luck tinadoo!
Just started a long distance relationship after being together for 2 years (we met in Japan but he’s moving back to his home country). The first night without him beside me was the absolute worst haha. Haven’t cried myself to sleep like that in so long. We don’t have a definitive date yet on when we’ll meet again but we’re both pretty hopeful. :)

Most of my relationships have been long-distance. And the only part of me that it has always satisfied, is the part when I can have some time alone. In my experience, I’d say that I always had a connection to, ‘the other’; which made me constantly pine for relationships, or at least, reactions with people from other cultures. But upon reflection, I guess it was, for me at least because I always felt good being overseas, or speaking another language. So, I attracted people. But I’m hind-sight, I now know it was because I used travel, exploration and learning other languages, cultures etc…as an escape mechanism. Now I’m happy-ish living back where I’m from. Because I’m in control of how I behave, who I interact with (not my family unfortunately, they always held me back and tried to force my focus on where I was from). Tell someone with Autism or ADHD that, they’ll do the opposite. But I took almost 10 years away from that rhetoric and I discovered myself without and outside intervention. Now, I’m much more happier alone and I don’t worry about even being in a relationship, cos honestly, it’s not for me; esp not in the traditional sense. You know, share the same bed 🤒, get married, live in the same country. No way is that supposed to be normal. Anyway, I’m ranting, but I want you to know that I’m so happy seeing you grow more and more online. I don’t know you personally and you probably cba to read this entire message. But a like-minded spirit supports you, unconditionally. Whether that’s distance, language, culture or whatever.

Dated my LDR boyfriend for 3 years, got married a few weeks ago and back to long distance again. Yes it can be hard, but it builds a level of space, maturity and a communication skill that I’ve never felt in any other relationship. We tell each other that the fact that we’ve made this work, means that when we’re finally physically together, we will get through anything. Long distance relationships are a nightmare. I tried it only once for about a year. It is too heart-wrenching every time you have to say goodbye for a while. I couldn’t deal with the trust issues and not really knowing what he was up to in my absence. I do not recommend it go anyone!

Iam also doing long distance. It's pretty hard but I always try my best :)
I was in a long distance relationship for about 9 months. It was incredibly difficult. We both work within the finance industry but on two opposite ends of the earth. Whilst we cherished the time we had together, we ultimately decided to end the relationship as it was incredibly difficult to maintain a happy work life balance. My advise is if you feel your partner is the right person for you, have that conversation to be much much closer together physically and start planning for it realistically.
Seeing dobby's consistency in making more vlogs is making my heart 😭💓💓

Greatest Therapy for me has been reaching out to those who are in need of help/company. Like visiting random old people in nursing homes and sitting with them while they tell stories about their life or helping a random person do their gardening. I find the greatest joy and peace in life when turning outwards. Just my two cents, love the content you create! Keep it up 😁

my wife and i dated for 3 years, long distanced for 5 and married 5 years now. those 5 years long distance really allowed me to focus on my career and when i was “rdy” we got married right away. not spending money on dating but investing in the future allowed us to be financially stable today. yeah we missed out on all the coachella and edcs but we became better people during our long distance.

I think the most successful relationships are the ones who overcome a "challenge" together well. Going through a difficult time together will show that they are willing and able to support and communicate with each other in good times and bad. From my personal experience, the key to a successful long distance relationship is there being a path to be together at the end and know where that is. People that do long distance when the feasibility of being in the same place (both emotionally and physically) isn’t there just blows my mind. While independent space is essential, I can’t understand why people would want to be with someone where they are happy to be apart for long periods.
Me and my wife were long distance for 2 and half years and we somehow made it work. It took a lot of trust, good communication and video calls to made the distance bearable. Good luck!

this randomly popped up on my feed and i'm not far into the video, but i was long distance with my boyfriend for 2 years due to having to go back to my home country when the pandemic hit (we didn't see each other once for the entire 2 years) and it was for sure difficult especially with a big time difference like yours (8 hours) and my love language also being physical touch! but with effort from both sides and planned lil dates and regular communication etc- it can definitely work! i found that it made me feel a lot closer to him in an emotional sense, as we couldn't be with each other physically. i moved back to his home country about 6 months ago and it just proves all the hard work was worth it! cheering you on and wishing you and your partner the best of luck 🫶

I lived in California while my husband lived in England back when we were dating and we were long distance for years. It is hard but you can do it! You learn to appreciate eachother so much this way and it doesn't really leave room for any petty arguments or games to be played. We would organize movie dates on video call or sometimes eat meals together that way so we could spend that time like a "normal" couple. You got this! Good luck to both of you ❤️
