I own a 2008 1.6 (petrol) takara. It's got 164,000 miles on it and never let me down once. I regularly service it but these are incredibly durable engines and the handling and comfort of these cars are good too. I plan on keeping mine until it dies, best car I've ever had.
Mate, it sounds like you loved that car, having described it as a Japanese princess. You should've bought it. I used to have a 2005 sedan model, 2 litre manual here in Australia. Great car.

I just bout an 06 Mazda 3 for 5k, with 65k miles. Needs engine mounts, front struts and shocks, the driver window control module doesn’t Lower the back windows. The steering wheel makes a weird squeak when I turn the wheel and finally the automatic transmission makes buzzing sound when I shift into any gear.
@@netako totally agree with this guy. Bomb proof reliability my first one had 197,000 miles and still ran sweet only got rid of it because I crashed and wrote it off. My second Mazda 3 has around 168,000 miles and it has never let me down just keep the oil changed every 4-6000 miles and check the coolant levels you'll be fine !

Just buy it with a petrol engine, Japanese petrol engines are some of the best engines when it comes to reliability.

@@lazar9123 Both petrol and diesel engines are entirely made by Mazda, Mazda usually makes diesel engines on their own (with some rare exceptions).
