My father always told me that if you lend money if you cannot consider it as a gift......then don't lend it.
That way you never get mad. It works as I did lend a family member money and forgot about it and was surprised when he brought up the $2500 three years later.
I love this show. I love the positivity, the goal getting, and the occasional in your face, no sugar coating sarcasm. People need to hear it.

People and cars... I just don't get it. I'm 40 and just bought the most expensive car I have ever bought. Paid cash as I always have. It was $8,000. Nice ride 2013 Toyota Avalon. It hurt me to pay that much for a car but it was a killer deal. I can't even imagine a car debt like most people have.
I'm seeing a lot of nice Denali SUVs around my town... I got the itch to get one because I thought they looked nice, then I thought about the monthly payment to be made, and how we could put that money to compound for us instead and changed my mind

I love that Ken has such a holistic overview of jobs and professions. He “sees” people no matter where they are in their personal process. We're going through a bathroom renovation. Just a bathroom. Good contractor, but it is turning our summer upside down. It will be worth it in the end. Still, I can't imagine renovating a whole house.
I was an educator for 10 years, I had to walk away this year. Education in America is losing good teachers left and right sadly, no one is actually listening to the teachers and trying to fix it.
What time and call did this come from?
@johnrengifo2452 it was the question of the day so it was a question that they read over air, plus he said he was like a vocational teacher/ coach, so similar but he didn't exactly say educator. And I don't know exactly but about half way through the video.

I work for a company that is contracted with the federal government and I also had to get a very extensive clearance. Fortunately, there were other tasks I could work while waiting for that clearance, but it does take a VERY long time for that clearance. It only took me three months, but a couple of my co-workers it took all but a year. Working for the government in any capacity is an absolute PAIN!!

Making money is not the same as keeping it there is a reason why investments aren't well taught in schools, the examples you gave are well stationed, the market crisis gave me my first millions, people shy away from hard times, I embrace them.. well at least my advisor does lol.

Dave, do some research (or have someone do it for you) about how PhDs in STEM fields work. Five years with minimal pay is normal because you don't have a bachelors degree coming in and you do research the entire time as work for your degree. Working a job while working on a PhD is only possible if the job directly relates to your research and so helps in writing your dissertation. They are very different than a PhD in any other field.
$65k for a plain jane half ton here in CND, and they are everywhere. Selling like crazy. At the same time, foodbanks cant keep food on the shelves.
Dave did a great job of pointing out that the minister and teacher seem to like their professions but it’s their work environments that are the issue…they don’t need to change careers! Also, the minister is going to have to set boundaries no matter where he works!

My 2 younger brothers have started their own “ soft wash” pressure cleaning businesses, one in PA and one in Oklahoma.
Both are doing very well.
They make enough on the jobs they do that they are able to work part time and my middle brother and his wife work as volunteers in a program of building Kingdom Halls for a few days a week.🙂 4:55
Dave never mentions childcare costs when both parents are putting in all the extra hours.
And the added clothing expenses, transportation costs, and the inevitable “lunch out with the colleagues” and gifts for office showers.

They often do talk about it. One parent works evenings or weekends. I had neighbors that did this. Dad worked 7-3 and mom was a nurse who worked night and weekend shifts.
their advice for the PHD Aerospace chick was super solid, not the most intuitive thing most people would think of but I agree with the approach 100%. Create an insurance policy and go big on the career knowing you got a backstop

I am a new listener and have been listening for a few months to agree to a lot of the strategies you suggest for folks. My only issues is the negative suggestions is of eating rice and beans as if only poor people eat it. I am of Hispanic descent of the Caribbean and rice and beans are main staples in our diet. Along with whatever proteins being served. We consume it everyday and it is a part of our cultural. Same as it goes to a lot Asian nations that includes rice and beans/lentils in their diet.
How about suggesting to people to learning to make healthy homemade cooking again and food prep? It's 100 times better than restaurant food and you will always have extras for lunch or dinner. Food planning and prepping allows you to prepare meals with intention by sticking with whole foods and limit processed foods. It's a much better way to manage the food budget and cut down on all of the "extras" that are picked up at the store. As we are coming into the fall, crock pot and instapot cooking are awesome devices for cooking in bulk. As it can be set to cook on low all day and by the time you get home, dinner is ready. Just make a couple of sides and it's all set to go.
I would hate for anyone to have a negative connection to rice and beans as being a poor person's diet. It is not. It's a wonderful staple items that feeds a large family or group with minimal effort. Same goes with pasta, potatoes, and veggies and the variety of proteins that can go together.
I can't speak for the Ramsey group, but I believe they say this only because those are lower cost foods compared to many other grocery items. They heavily encourage people to budget and prepare food at home regularly. I'm not sure why you took this as an insult as "poor people" food, but I would encourage you to listen again to what they say.
@@Matt-rb8ip When Ramen and rice and beans are combined to form a sentence, of course it will take on a negative connotation. Do you even know how much dry Ramen noodles in a pack costs nowadays? Back when I was younger, they used to cost about 10-15 cents a pack. Today with inflation, I can guess they are like 50 cents now. Regardless, it's a cheap, and very unhealthy, food item to eat when you're a broke college kid not grown adults. It's high sodium content isn't well tolerated with most middle aged adults. However, I digress. Rice and beans is not a staple in the American diet. Most don't know how to prepare it properly so it won't taste like some gloppy soup. All I was calling for was a change of language. Instead of telling people to hunker down with a bowl of rice and beans, they should be encourage to cook more at home. We live in a society that is obsessed with eating out all the time for all three meals. There are people who leave their homes in the morning and stop off at StarYucks to buy an iced coffee beverage instead of making it at home. People just needs to go back to cooking at home and eating whole foods. Living high on the hog is the reason why so many are in a financial crisis now.
I would absolutely watch a Ramsey cooking show where they teach how to make delicious rice and beans meals and break down the cost!
The title is contradicting. It says personal finance isn't based on feeling but rather math, yet when comparing the snowball vs avalanche, its all about "personal finance is 80% behavior, 20% math"

Jenna…… no way, I would stay where you are and finish paying off that house. I would not take anything else on at this point especially with four children. You have a lot of possible unexpected incidentals there. Taking on a project like that comes later after you have your primary home paid off. Stay on track. Sounds like you’re doing great!
Loved the discussion on a million and a billion. Here's an easy way to think about it - counting to a million at a normal rate 24/7 takes 10 days. Counting to a billion at the same rate takes 30 YEARS. And a trillion is a thousand billion!
I would be more worried about not being strong and supporting my wife rather than acting whimpy And afraid.
Almost at the end the guy callin in who is a flooring contractor should know work isn't slowing in January and February because it is winter, but because people are recovering from Christmas.....a lot of businesses really slow then.
Speaking of math, uncle dave needs to revisit taxes, and health insurance. that poor kid he told to pay 8k a month at 160k in income is insane. He probably only brings home 9500 a month. Theh have daycare and a place to live
This show is VERY weak on explaining the impact of rising taxes. Their only answer seems to be "get additional side hustles!" They also don't know much about the cost of daycare. In our area it runs $800 a week for two kids (at least.) So that is over $40,000 a year (counting for a week or two off when the parents might be on vacation.)

Agree he’s very unrealistic about taxes. Every time he talks about someone with around my income the amount he says they clear monthly is at least $1000 or $1500 more than I clear. Also the last 2 years I owed even more taxes at the end of the year. Another thing is how he pushes extra jobs. When someone has 2 and 3 jobs the taxes really get messed up and almost always owe more at the end of the year.

If Dave is saying certain degrees are useless, then why are you required to have a degree to work in that job. Maybe jobs need to rearrange their requirements.
You will find that increasingly many jobs do not or will no longer require a FOUR YEAR degree. The job market is changing so rapidly that in the future workers will be constantly updating their skills. It's what I call "techno fatigue." 62% of American over age 25 do not have a four-year college degree. More than half of the students who start college do not finish a four-year degree in six years (when their financial aid will run out). Due to the boomers leaving the job market and the downward demographic shift, many states are also doing away with or lowering college graduation requirements for jobs. It is more about what you can prove you know or can do than what courses you have taken. In our state the governor just eliminated the requirement for a four-year college degree for thousands of state jobs. HOWEVER, what people often find out is that at a certain point in their career a four-year degree is required to advance. So, for many people, the best option now seems to be to get a two-year degree, get a job, and then chip away at that four-year degree course by course (and many companies pay tuition reimbursement, so they pick up the tab.)
No such thing as useless degrees, only useless students.

Loaning a friend money: I had a great experience: I loaned my LONG time friend $250,000 in 2015 @ 8% on a 4-unit apt bldg. We were the “First” mortgagee.
Twice we added $30,000, then suggested he sell the bldg in 2022. He did sell; while still owing me $275,000. It’s all paid back and we’re still loving friends.

Not at all true look at inspector government make the most. A lot of government stuff pays fair wage. Maybe in the south it is bad. Also government high end clearance takes 1 year. Dude pretty clueless about a lot of issues they ramble about stick to finance

Since when did the Ramsey Solutions Team care about math? As soon as math contradicts their narrative, it’ll go right out the window & they’ll revert back to their behavior over math argument as usual.

@@buckibankerit is math. If one way has been shown to work then the math says that is the correct way. I know 5 is bigger then 2 that isn’t how ma th works once your leave 1st grade math is large studies that show what works using statistics.
@joesmith3590 that's not statistics, that's a survey. Math is if you pay 1000 extra a month on your 2% mortgage and i pay the same 1000 a month into my savings at 5% ill have enough to pay off my mortgage before you. It's kind of how banks have made their money for hundreds of years
But there are other reasons to pay off a mortgage other than the interest rate. We paid off our house early while we were very young and had young kids (didn't know Ramsey back then) and have never regretted it. Not having a mortgage enabled us to easily cash flow the rest of our major expenses as well as travel. We are so happy now because we traveled in our 40s and 50s while we were physically able to do so. We could now except we are glued in place taking care of aging parents during our golden years. We made the right decision for us, regardless of any interest rate, and enjoyed a great quality of life on what many would consider a modest income - and we have felt so good knowing that if one of us had died unexpectedly, the remaining spouse would have still had a paid-for house. We are not big spenders now because our kids are through college and married and we have literally gone everywhere in the world we wanted to see and we can live on very little with paid for cars, no debt, and no mortgage.@@buckibanker

I have done your classes and are now involved in Airbnb. I have heard your Comments regarding airbnb and i'm very sorry to hear so many negative things you have to say. I have been involved with Year b m b since two thousand and fifteen and have appreciated all that it has brought to me and my family. I must say that much of what you say depends on where you live and how sperm you are about new parties and also your relationship with your clients or guest. It is a wonderful thing for young people getting involved with their first apartment, Great for retirees that enjoys doing things for others and keeping their properties up. So please, when you discuss airbnb, please indicate that it's not the negative is not the same fòr all people. So quit the negative and try and find the good things about airbnb to say on your radio, thanks, babe.
