Excited for this series! The Manhattan is the cocktail I've toodled the most with and I make a "cherry chocolate" Manhattan by adding some of the Luxardo juice and cutting the vermouth with Bourbon Ball-friends have claimed to really like this. Since discovering your channel a month or so ago, I've become very inspired about concocting my own ingredients. The foraged creme d'mure (I mentioned in a previous comment) turned out pretty good, but I think the real revelation there was the honey fennel syrup I used to sweeten it. When stirred with vodka & ice it made a delicious shot! This week's creation was "cherry pie" syrup, with cherries, cinnamon, and cloves. It's fan-friggin-tastic on vanilla ice cream. I had a hard time finding a cocktail I liked it in, though, until last night: 2 oz gin 0.75ish oz dry curaçao 0.5 oz cherry pie syrup fresh cherry & orange peel garnish I'm not sure what you'd call that. The magenta color was neat. With some tinkering it might make a fun V-Day cocktail. Anyway, from a fan, THANKS! And keep up all the fun concocting!
Great review Pete. Always thought I would love a Manhattan but not so much. Do like a Black Manhattan so like you might need a touch more sweetness. Looking forward to the Rye taste off as I only found 1 Rye that I like - Cheers 🥃
Two maraschino videos for me in one day (My Tiny Bottles was the other)! In that one, Camper English talks some about how, at least Luxardo, makes the stuff. Kind of sounds like they were able to make something good from cherry dunnings. So thinking maybe next time you make some cherry bounce, you can take all the leftover bits and bobs and make something similar, though you might need a still.
Terrific video Pete! I like my Manhattans on the dryer, bitter side, as with most cocktails I prefer, and this is one of my favourites, but I can't sweeten! But we can all have variety and I love that!! Cheers!! 🙂
@@UnclePete As a little child I loved veges v fruits and candies!! Lol! Now what kid loves vegies right? Lol!! Hilarious!! You rock Pete and I always love your terrific thoughts on so much about amari, cocktails, lovely expressions of spirits!! Have a happy Thursday!! 🙂
Oh good, I've been wondering about this comparison as well! I guess Cherry Heering would be *too* sweet for this purpose? I ask because the subtlety of the cherry flavor in Maraschino has always confused me a little. 😄
Cherry Heering is too sweet for most things lol. But really cherry Heering is too cough syrupy for me. I heard recently that they only use the pits. skins and stems from the cherries to make the Maraschino, so not much cherry in there really.
I've been curious about the Maraska ever since I read it has more cherry flavor. Nice to know my Luxardo is very comparable, since I can actually get that easily in my area.
Of all the classic cocktails,Manhattans just never been up my alley, The inclusion of a bit of Luxardo might help, though!
Me too! I always tried hard to like them, but never really loved them, a little maraschino really improves them for me!
Love a Manhattan. Never thought of supplementing with a little Maraschino... looking forward to happy hour. Thanks Pete!
Yes sir! I really like them that way!
Hope you are having an amazing summer Uncle Pete 😎
I am!

Thanks Nathan! Your drink sounds delicious, not sure what to call it lol.
I'm so glad to hear you have been concocting things! so fun!
I've done a chocolate cherry Manhattan with maraschino and chocolate bitters! It was delicious.
Ohh that sounds nice!

Oh yeah I much prefer a black manhattan, I'll have to fit that into this series at some point. Cheers Glen!

It would be fun to get a little table top still, but I'm sure I wouldn't be able to produce anything as delicious as Maraschino!

@@UnclePete What makes you so sure? And don't you want to find out for... sure?😁
Can only get Luxardo and Montenegro Heritage Buton Maraschino Liqueur but also Stambecco Maraschino Cherry Amaro. need to explore this
I am not familiar with those other two, I am curious what they are like!

I'm sure there are some differences I can't detect, but for normal people like me they are pretty much the same
