Great video on the RTS. I have owned 2 Spyder, 2009 RS and then 2011 RTS, put all chrome on it like the one your riding. I bought both of these bikes new and the only reason I upgraded to the 2011 RTS was I was able to sit more up right. The 2009 you sit in it almost like a sport bike, bothered my back. I still own the 2011 RTS and have done some long trips with it over the years. The one I have is grey with all the bells and whistles on it and what I really like about it is its a manual transmission. I love and always will love a manually transmission on a bike. I'm 66 yrs old and still like riding and this Spyder allows me to keep going. I have ridden a Ryker, RT Limited and a F3 Spyder, all automatics and they are nice but I still wouldn't part with my manual, I just like the shifting. It did take me a little bit to adjust to turning at high speeds but I adjusted pretty quickly. One note, I got caught in 2 freak snow storms in July up here in northern Alberta Canada and was glad I was on a 3 wheeler, 2 inches of wet slushing snow on the roads. I did hear the traction control going off which kept me safe. Just wanted to chime in on the benefits of the bike. Thanks for sharing your experience of your ride.

I have owned my 2012 Spyder RT Ltd (bought used with only 9300kms on the clock) since August 2022. In that time I added about 5.5k/kms being only a weekend warrior now. I heard or read somewhere that you need to ride the Spyder, any model, for about 4k/kms before you can feel you know what you're doing. I'm still learning especially when it comes to turns. The various safety systems can and do provide some reassurance but are no substitute for the rider paying attention to the road and riding conditions. As a previous commentor noted the screen is electrically adjustable and so any buffering you might be feeling can almost be eliminated by raising the screen. In Australia (where I live) the Spyder is classed as a motorcycle and despite all the safety systems and stability you must take a pre-rider training course before riding one. They are not learner legal and so cannot be ridden on learner's permit.

I have a 2011 Spyder RTS. I bought it new from the dealer. It does come with stability control. You mentioned you didn't know how fast to take a turn. The bike will automatically brake if you are going to fast during a turn. You missed the windshield being able to go up and down. To turn, use a "push pull" on the handlebars. to go right, pull on the right grip and push on the left hand. It takes practice to get the way to handle it.

I totaly love your laugh. I've been watching these bikes since 2008 they are getting better and better. Hopeing to get a 2018 or 19 rt or rt limited. You made it exciting and educational. Cant wait to get money. Thank you.

I have a 2021 F-3S which has the 1330cc 3cyc motor. 6 speed semiautomatic trans. It does downshift but the ridder must upshift. You can downshift if you want to, however downshifting is optional. Love my Spyder. Very quick, the F-3S is their sporty model.

On the left side grip at the bottom-right corner of the controls just to the right of the horn there is a large rocker switch that controls the height of the windshield. Yep, power windshield.
The power band is from 3,000 to 9,000 red line and it pulls hard all the way through it. You can get yourself in all kinds of trouble with the state boys if you don't keep on eye on the speedometer, as you mentioned.
I just bought a 2011 (yes, I know this review is 4 years old) specifically because it has a 5-speed with a clutch. I loathe CVTs with that one rev setting. OK for snowmobiles but not for motorcycles.
Going through the gears can be pretty quick if you use the whole rev range. And it has reverse. Not Harley's "reverse" but a real one in the transmission where it belongs. The pattern is normal bike except for the reverse gear, so R-1-N-2-3-4-5 and 5 is overdrive.
I've had mine for about 3 weeks, bought at the end of the season so still learning it. I sold my 1100 Virago while I was buying the RT-S because at 76 years I figured it was time to get onto something more comfortable. So I bought myself a birthday present with 25,000 km on it, looks new, safetied, new tires, AGM battery, gas lines and the body is mint. All for $15Gs Canadian.
Now I'm really looking forward to next spring!

The 1000cc Spyders (Mine was 2012) before the 1330cc need to be ridden at HIGHER RPM!! This guy should have been told this. if you run the RPMs they way you do most motorcycles you burn MORE Gas and it's not healthy for the engine. You cruise in to 4000 to 5000 range and you have it about right!! Yeah it sounds higher pitch, but you are running it the way it was designed and it runs better with much better throttle response. I didn't hit 2nd till close to 30mph! The cruise doesn't engage unless you are doing over 3500 rpm!

I like the way it's made you laugh. The engine in that one you're riding would be the Rotax V2 998, yes they are happier when running over 4000rpm. As for feeling 'floaty', do as you did and increase the air pressure in the suspension and the model you were on is a cruiser rather then a speeder. You have to be seriously out of shape to mess up on a Spyder, you do have all the aids such as, TCS, ABS, DPS, VSS, just name a few.
I have a 2011 RS, which is the smaller sporty critter with the same engine and 5sp manual, it too can have me smiling and laughing.
I have just noticed this is 5 years old, may I suggest revisiting the Spyder with a later model, say a 2020, where it's a little more refined with the Rotax 1330 3cyl and 6sp in manual and auto. Go to a RT Sea to Sky (S2S),ride it for a good month to get the real feel of it.
In the end a brilliant review by a two wheeler.

Good job on the review, especially being a first time rider. I also have a white 2011. It’s 10 years old now (bought it used with 30k miles) and have only put on 100 miles so far. Really enjoy the mountain toads of Oregon. One lesson learned is to just relax while riding. Have to tell yourself that often.

I never viewed "trikes" as really ... But as I get older I can appreciate them when the day may come when as a Senior Citizen I may not be able to ride a Motorcycle safely or w/e. As you mention in this video they are a decent compromise so as not have to lose some of the experience of that unique feeling of riding a bike. Anyways, just my thoughts ...
*Or I guess one could attach a side car to a motorcycle (then my buddy, my Perro de Presa Canario, Vito, could ride beside me)? haha Remember to Ride Defensively and be Safe !

    • @RabidHedgehog

I have a friend who is an older rider and he is prepping his Ultra with a side car as we speak. I doubt I will get to ride that one though.... But I will try.

    • @deltavee2
      @deltavee2 Рік тому

White Rabbit - It's not a trike. They have a single wheel out front and two rear, the opposite of this motorcycle. And they'll kill you if you fuck up. Also Can-Ams are lot easier to drift than a trike.
      Cheers
Yeah I know it's' three years old. Doesn't mean people won't read the response.

I did try both and the Ryker is a riot. But the Spyder is more refined.
