Great presentation. At the end you correctly speculated about a future grid with lots of low cost power sources. Contrast this with your beginning view of a traditioned centralized grid structure. What is taking place is a change of perspective. The future is a distributed network. My view is that the grid will be battery controlled. Grid forming will be at the substation level. Gone will be the need for centralized real-time control. The over arching requirement will be battery management. My best hope is base load from geothermal.
Wonderful description of creativity, trusting yourself with your own knowledge and understanding of the sciences involved, then riffing a bit through the application of that science into engineering approaches to understanding problems and positing approaches to solutions.
Generation, transmission, and distribution. An omitted reflection of the Texas power issue during extreme the cold a few years ago is that transmission into/out of the state is very limited.

Making approximations is standard procedure. After all, engineering is the fine art of approximations.

Grid in the USA has 3 main areas East, West and Texas 😅
